Darrell Issa's IRS Investigation Is Falling Apart

how many are you that don't know the deference of being a possible suspect and being guilty

I'm just one, but I know the difference between being a suspect and being guilty. Obama is a suspect. He has not yet proven to be guilty.

ok then who has made any statement that Obama is guilty? all that ive seen is people saying that it is possible that he might be involved, and Obama koolaid drunk liberals trying to make a absurd claim that Obama is no way involved and wanting to call off the investigation

Last month’s revelation that IRS agents had singled out Tea Party groups for special scrutiny gave Darrell Issa a purpose in life. Here was an issue that seized public attention and posed a legitimate threat to Obama. Since then, nobody in Congress has pushed harder than Issa to pin the scandal on the White House. But after a burst of attention, Issa’s investigation appears to have stalled. Although he turned up embarrassing material—has any government official been humiliated quite like the IRS commissioner in the dorky video dressed up as Spock?—Issa hasn’t made the all-important connection to the White House. And he may not be able to. The news this week that he won’t release the full transcripts of his interviews with IRS officials—interviews he selectively quoted from to imply White House complicity—suggests that what they contain may in fact exonerate the administration of the very charge Issa is laboring so hard to prosecute.
“Your push to release entire transcripts from witness interviews while the investigation remains active was reckless and threatened to undermine the integrity of the committee’s investigation,” Issa wrote in response to a letter from his Democratic counterpart, Representative Elijah Cummings of Maryland, who himself had selectively quoted the transcripts and then called on Issa to publicize the whole thing.

In theory, Issa could be building a case against the White House to rival Watergate that he just isn’t quite ready to unveil. But that’s highly unlikely. Cummings has seen the transcripts and wouldn’t call for their release if they contained information that would fell his party’s president. Issa’s weak-tea defense of why he won’t comply—witnesses might be demoted or fired, he says—only buttresses this suspicion. So does the effort by Issa’s colleague, Representative Dave Camp of Michigan, to broaden the investigation’s scope to include donor audits. You don’t broaden an investigation if you’ve found the smoking gun and nailed the culprit.

Darrell Issa's IRS Investigation Is Falling Apart - Businessweek

Darrell Issa is an impotent as John Boehner.

Agreed. Issa seriously misplayed his hand. He tried to win the pot holding only a pair of deuces. Pathetic.

We are all beginning to learn what some of us knew from the get go: there is nothing to the IRS scandal, at least as far as the angle he was playing (White House orchestration of a wholesale shakedown of conservative groups).

I always thought the Cons were very bad a government, but pretty good at politics.... Issa must be a RINO, has he very bad at politics.... (first the Fast & Furious fiasco and now the IRS issue)..... while the Cons were busy smelling blood on the IRS, they turned off the heat on Benghazi and the shakedown of journalists, not that either of those had much traction... but now they have none.

Perhaps the Cons will think about governing, though it is a subject they know nothing about.... but maybe they can learn?

provide a link to the quote where Issa announced a verdict

It wasn't only Issa, here's the link

A third House committee joined the stampede to examine the IRS on Monday, and its chairman did exactly what you would expect somebody to do before launching a fair and impartial investigation: He went on Fox News Channel and implicated the White House.

Asked by Fox’s Bill Hemmer what he hoped to learn at Monday afternoon’s hearing, Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers (R-Ky.) offered this bit of pre-hearing analysis:

“Of course, the enemies list out of the White House that IRS was engaged in shutting down or trying to shut down the conservative political viewpoint across the country — an enemies list that rivals that of another president some time ago.”
Accuse first and ask questions later - Washington Post

fast and furious didn't fall flat it was just illegally stalled by Obama falsely using executive privilege to hide important documents that a court soon will be forcing him to release

all the scandal investigations are still going on. they would be moving along much faster if the WH would release documents and provide witnesses that they have been requested to do. only the guilty drags their feet when asked to provide requested evidence

just want to remind you it took over a year after the Watergate investigation started before Nixon was forced to leave office. how long has the IRS investigation been going on? what 3 weeks so go ahead burry your head back in the sand. i will let you know when Biden is the new president with a republican run senate and house

Just to remind you none of these items are anywhere near Watergate in egregiousness or importance. Let me help you: there is nothing to see here, as much as you want to believe there is.

You can bury your head in the sand and think that Obama is going someplace; but he is not. He won the last election convincingly and he is our elected leader... deal with it.

When with the RepubliCons finally stop living in the past, including thinking they can unwind the last election (or reverse ObamaCare), and actually develop a real vision for American and march TOWARD it. Sell a future and stop living in the past!

are you serious :lamo you think some break in at some DNC office is more damaging then the IRS discriminating against and targeting hundred of organizations and illegally releasing tax information and donor list

i know im not supposed to insult posters but dam you make it hard not to

Just to point out something about the innocent until proven guilty narrative running through this thread---we already have evidence of wrongdoing. We are trying to find out who was at the top of the food chain so to speak about ordering it and supervising it.

don't you know you cant do that you cant speculate and question some ones involvement because doing so you are calling them guilty

When was this and to whom?
When was what? ... and to ... what's that again?

Back in 2010 when their desperate plan was hatched.
Cummings' guy is said to have contacted the IRS' Technical Unit in DC for instructions on how to handle the Tea Party requests for tax exemption.
You're gonna say you don't believe it until you get proof.
Fine ... what would it tell you if it's shown to be true?

the guy is a sleazebag and you seem to have no idea how much it has hurt the GOP having him as the front man in this investigation ... a more distinguished GOP Congressman/woman (and you do have some) would have given the investigation more credibility ... your bad ...

I'm not a member of the GOP; I'm simply objecting to character assassination based on charges dropped against an 18-year old who is about to turn 60. It's weak sauce.

Nothing, I was in error for asking. All we need is whether the WH instigated or was aware of the targeting situation.

uh huh ... and what's the minimum that you would accept as evidence?

this is common knowledge, but if you have a few minutes, read this and then tell me if you would hire this guy, let alone have him lead a congressional investigation ...

REPORT: Media Ignore Rep. Issa's Alleged Criminal Past | Research | Media Matters for America,

Thank you for the link. Even in the bolding, you can see "allegations." It surely seems from this presentation that where there is smoke, there must be fire. Displaying a gun in a box seems more than a little thuggish.

But the claims remain allegations. Why did voters elect Issa?

Did you see the date 1972? Why do alleged events when he was 18 matter?

REPORT: Media Ignore Rep. Issa's Alleged Criminal Past | Research | Media Matters for America,

heh heh ... Media Matters makes it sound like the press has been giving a pass to Issa like they've been doing to Obama for a decade now.

Hey Bori ... wanna see some blasts from the Politico past? Memory Lane stuff?

It's no secret that the first branch of government that Obama politicized was the Department of Justice.
The FBI is under the DOJ.

>"Judging by the scant details FBI Director Robert Mueller provided at a House hearing Thursday, it doesn’t look like the investigation into the IRS’s targeting of Conservative, Tea Party and Patriot groups is something the FBI feels very comfortable discussing.

Yesterday, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan grilled the federal bureau’s boss asking basic details on the case, but Mueller supposedly hadn’t been briefed since the investigation began. What followed was an almost comedic exchange between a befuddled FBI director and an angry state Rep. posing some very uncomfortable questions..."<

That' serious stuff!

Great. Perhaps that will put a stop to the George Bush stories or what Issa is alleged to have done when he was 18.

They are attacking the messenger. Remember the Clinton's did the same?

You'll know the depth of their ignorance and partisanship by the way they attack anyone who dares question a leftist or their actions. They feel that no matter how they might abuse the laws, the justice system, the Constitution, or attack people's reputation, the end will always justify the means, But these poor clueless bastards don't even know what the end might be.

if you are not troubled by someone with this past (and not all of it when he was 18 or 19), then you and I have different standards. I wouldn't hire the guy - you might. O.K. I said he was a sleazebag and at least this group agrees (CREW) - http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/09/24/issa-wins-most-corrupt-award-from-crew/
if you recall, when he first got in this position he all but said he was going to use this committee to go after the Dems ... Dems are more than happy to have him lead this investigation for reasons you are seeing already ....
