TRENTON, N.J. — Newark Mayor Cory Booker on Saturday formally announced he's in the race to finish the U.S. Senate term of the late Frank Lautenberg. The 44-year-old Democrat made his candidacy official at a news conference Saturday in Newark, New Jersey's largest city. He was joined by former U.S. Sen. Bill Bradley, a former pro basketball player who for 18 years held the seat Booker is seeking.
Bradley, who endorsed Booker, called him "the right person for the right office at the right time."
Booker began raising money for a Senate run even before Lautenberg, who died Monday, announced retirement plans in February. He had raised $1.9 million by the end of the last reporting period in March.

The only Republican running so far is Steve Lonegan, a former Bogota mayor who runs the New Jersey office of Americans for Prosperity.
Booker, 44, has 1.4 million followers on Twitter – or five for every resident of the city where he's the mayor. He tweets frequently, answering questions about city services, posting about his workouts and, perhaps most often, trying to provide inspiration

Give me a hell to the yea! I love Booker! And im sure he will have this in the bag easy! Very inspirational man and a great mayor im sure he will be a great senator.

What makes him so great? Let me guess, he's a Liberal Democrat?

Watch the movie street fight its a documentary about his campaign back in 2002 for the Mayor of Newark, and how dirty it got but how clean he stayed. Hell he lived in the projects when he could afford not too to be more close with the community he wants to represent, he went on a hunger strike because of drug use, stomped out corruption, saved a woman from a burning building, he wanted to get crime rates down so he personally would also go out on patrols. This man led by example and is one of the most popular political figures today and goes beyond "liberal democrat" lines.

He lived in the projects for what? A week?

Newark was the stolen car capital of the world, when he was mayor. How much did the crime rate go down, during his term?

He moved in a little before 2002 and continued to live there as mayor (he won in 2006).

Generally went down during his mayorship

Wow! 4 years?

I'm not impressed...sorry.

Oh of course i forgot we have to impress you or else he is a "liberal democrat" and cuz he has a 'D' next to his name he sucks! (but he actually continued to live in there much during his mayorship)

"Newark Mayor Cory Booker rescued a neighbor from a burning building, invited Hurricane Sandy victims to his home, and rushed to the aid of a pedestrian hit by a car. Now he's going to live on a food stamp budget for a week in solidarity with Americans who feed their families on the government assistance program."
