House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) survived a potential coup from his own caucus in January due to what some conservative lawmakers are attributing to divine intervention.
After Boehner's fiscal cliff negotiations rankled many Republicans in the House, talk turned to possibly replacing the Ohio Republican. But, according to a report published online Monday in the Washington Post, the effort "quickly fell apart when several Republicans, after a night of prayer, said God told them to spare the speaker."
Rep. Steve Southerland II (R-FL) told the Post that he read the Old Testament the night before the vote for the speakership.

You can't make this stuff up. I wonder if God uses Twitter now?

A clever way of saying I was promised some kickbacks if I voted the right way.

What a bull**** title. looks like the leftards are getting restless these days, tired of having to report on the fascist nature of the modern dem party.

Your evidence that this was the case and God is not the one who told them? I mean God may have to speak directly to people now just to avoid all the political spying the current Administration is doing on everybody these days in the name of "national security".

Really? So do share? How so?

Wonder what will be used to save Obama from a coup? Fortune cookies?

You righties sure would love that now wouldn't you?

Your evidence that this was the case and God is not the one who told them?.

Honestly. We wonder why the republican party is full of so many loons? Walking around suggesting they "talk to God" and got answers.

So in other words you have no evidence that they heard God tell them anything, or more importantly, you have no evidence to support your accusation that the Speaker bribed people to keep his post. With all the spying the democrats are doing, you would think a little proof of bribery wouldn't be so hard to come by, especially since there is no love lost between the Speaker and the fertility god.

Sounds awfully familiar. When Gingrich was facing a coup, boehner, Scarborough, and Dick Army were among those who were planning it. Army recanted his move against Gingrich after supposedly consulting God through prayer. Scarborough thought it was a cowardly move .

It's not. It's just a means of either:

Weighing moral or ethical issues

A means of providing socially accepted outs when it was largely or entirely a political calculation.

Scarborough thought God was cowardly?

"I'm going to heaven Lieutenant Dan." *F.G.

The title of the story and what these reps said are two different things.....from the op's link-

He read the story of Saul and David, as the king of Israel tried to kill the future king. David wins and, with a chance to kill the king, decides to spare Saul.

Southerland woke up convinced that Boehner should be spared. Others, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said they, too, prayed before siding with Boehner.

Doesn't say God spoke to them, merely says they read the bible and slept on it lol

No stranger than someone saying "Their gut told them" something, which is a phrase I commonly hear as well.

They thought about something and their inutition led them to go in a particular direction. Call it god, call it ones gut, call it a feeling, call it whatever you want...I don't really see a big deal to it, and I get more of a laugh at those that try to act like "OMG CRAZZZZZZZZY PEOPLE!" than those that actually say it.

So in other words you have no evidence that they heard God tell them anything, .

Perhaps they can furnish some phone records to prove me wrong? Honestly, the idea of "Talking to God" is absurd.

.

What accusation? I never accused Boehner of anything.

Gut instinct is not the same. It suggests relying upon one's own senses, experience and intuition. Suggesting that one "Talked to God" and got an answer is total bull****.

Maybe it was just a gut feeling, but then maybe they should have said that. I could say my refrigerator told me how to vote and you'd call me crazy, if I say it's my gut (even if it really was an appliance),then I'm cool.
