Costco's Profit Soars To $459 Million As Low-Wage Competitors Struggle

It's not a higher subsidy. It's a higher threshold of income to receive the subsidy.

Now you're really not making sense. The threshold for a Texan to receive benefits is not lower, it's HIGHER; a future mom in Texas who earns, say, 190% of the FPL would be denied a benefit, while the Californian would receive a benefit. But the Californian, with the Medi-Cal benefit, makes more money on average. So if the argument is a Medicaid benefit allows employers to pay less than they otherwise would I don't see it.

Quite honestly...the less employees you hire...the more you can pay them. I have never SEEN a Costco. They won't put them in my area. They won't even put a publix. Do you know how bad that sucks?

I am curious as to what areas Walmart and other places have been beaten out by dollar general, and also to see the lowest avg income of the areas around Costco vs walmart.

Anyway. Business isn't the enemy. We have an anti-business mentality in office, lots of anti-business people around, and a lot of business owners covering their ass afraid to make a move.

That "anti-business mentality" must be why so many Corporations are reporting record profits. Nothing boosts profits like Govt. meddling I guess.

About half of S&P 500 profits come from overseas. A lot of those profits remain parked abroad. Much of the rest comes more in spite of our government than because of it.

Cash Hoard Grows by $187 Billion in Untaxed Overseas Profits - Bloomberg

Right just keep believing that. Democrats are far better for the economy and business than Republicans. That is just a fact.

Personal disposable income has grown nearly 6 times more under Democratic presidents
•Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has grown 7 times more under Democratic presidents
•Corporate profits have grown over 16% more per year under Democratic presidents (they actually declined under Republicans by an average of 4.53%/year)
•Average annual compound return on the stock market has been 18 times greater under Democratic presidents (If you invested $100k for 40 years of Republican administrations you had $126k at the end, if you invested $100k for 40 years of Democrat administrations you had $3.9M at the end)
•Republican presidents added 2.5 times more to the national debt than Democratic presidents
•The two times the economy steered into the ditch (Great Depression and Great Recession) were during Republican, laissez faire administrations

costco pays higher wages by selling in bulk and having fewer employees.

of course costco is cheaper than walmart, per unit.

you can buy a single item cheaper at walmart, but at costco, lets say your buying canned food,in which youd pay 14 dollars for a box of 24,vs a little short of a dollar a can at walmart.your savings are based off bulk sales.

ofcourse places with low number of employees arent always good.alberstsons in california sucked.stater brothers had cheap prices and friendly staff.alberstons had fewer employees, and the food cost 2-3 times as much.ofcourse albertsons was union, and the price was to pay union wages, and the low number of employees was reflected because most areas had poor traffic due to their hefty price jump over competitors.the only place they seemed to do good at was rich cities.sad though because alot of albertsons employees make less than costco employees.

Sure. Businesses are just flocking to Rhode Island.

Why hasn't capitalism done it yet then?

Does it all the time. Store A has workers who treat customers poorly or produce inferior goods, Store B treats customers well and turns out superior products. Unless customers enjoy lousy service and poor products store B wins. It does something to attract better workers. Pay is an important element but not the only one.

Not sure you have ever managed in a company large or small.
