Menendez: We don’t have 60 votes for immigration reform bill

Just because we haven't had a bill in a long time and reform since the 80's doesn't meant we need to repeat the failed past and do it again wrong. Are you that desperate for a new voting block?

Yeah.....I wasn't happy that Johnny Quest McCain and Schumer were in on this Bill. Although I can understand McCain being from a Border State. Schumer now.....that putz is nothing but a Waste a Space and nothing but a NY big wig ass kisser.

I think McCain is trying poise himself as a 'statesman'. Or...I dont know...maybe he is changing. It happens. Either way...there really HAS to be some form of immigration reform and it CANT involve mass roundups and deportation. It WONT. And people should come to grips with that reality. I wish the answers werent lost in the politics.

our cultures are not altogether dissimilar... but their government is atrocious and corrupt..the country is poorly run and prosperity doesn't reach far beyond the halls of power.

one of the big problem I have with the immigration problem is remittance payments( sending money back home to feed their remaining family)... a virtual ****-ton of money is removed from our economy and added to latin americas local economies... to the tune of 30 billion a year. ( which is far more than direct foreign private investment and government aid combined)
in return..we get drugs, crime, and additional taxpayer costs to combat immigration.

i'm pretty supportive of immigration... i'm supportive of amnesty...i'm very welcoming of the huddled masses... I think it can be beneficial to all involved parties, but we can't form a system where it's very costly to one party and beneficial to another..discord is sown in such ways.

If we have strict state ID/Driver's license requirements and require that a state issued ID or driver's license be presented in order to use a bank, or wire money,get a credit card/debit card then it would cut down on the money being sent to other countries.

You can get a drivers license as an immigrant. A lot of people here legally send money back home as well.

Plus we're getting into "your papers please" territory. I don't want to live somewhere where I need ID everywhere I go.

Except they are not. They would work just fine IF they were enforced. The feds have no problem allowing local law enforcement to enforce federal drug law, in fact they encourage it. Why not immigration law?

An amount at least equal to the aid we provide illegals and their families.

But hey, want to do it very inexpensively? Institute my idea of asset seizure. Get caught here illegally and all you base belong to us. We'll use the proceeds to fund deportation and enforcement. I'd be a major disincentivefor them to come, and stay, in the first place.

We need immigration reform, but excusing people for breaking the law should not be part of that. We need to pass reform that enhances law enforcement against businesses that hire illegals and that actively deports illegals and makes them pay fines/back taxes for the services they received while illegally in America before they can even think about applying for legal citizenship (and even then they should be at the back of the line).

It is immigration reform. There will always be some group people are pissed about coming in. There will always be some hard working group that so called "real" americans crap on because of their selfishness. Seriously, it has happened with the Irish, Italians, jews, germans, Asians, and now the hispanics are the big bad guy. Everyone always wants reform to save the day from the less desirable.

I do have to enjoy republicans chasing their own tail on this one as they realize the party of old white guys needs some color, and they also realize they are also the party that is prejudiced to be only for white guys and their base will never stand for it. It is like Mitt romney coming down very clearly on both sides of an opposing issue and apologizing to everyone who sees him as full of crap. republican reps want to win another presidency and need hispanic voters to do so, yet the tea party will rip them to shred if they openly vote for anything that is seen to make things easier on immigrants.

The only thing i hope is that when the reps tear their party apart that some other party comes along to keep the dems from a huge majority because I like my fattening foods and so called bad habits.

Certain things should require an state issued ID.Requiring an ID for those things is not going to make us like Nazi Germany.

Actually no, but how it's been misinterpreted and misused IS a bad thing. I'd be okay with an amendment. But then I suppose we can just add it to the list of crap we've been sweeping under the rug and dealing with extra-constitutionally.

Dictating operating procedures to private banks for the purpose of blocking lawful transmissions of funds that said bank might choose to do.

I am not sure Menendez is known for his honesty.

They are enforced. The problem is the laws are too complicated and there are too few vacancies for far too many who wish to come. The laws need reformed.
