The only "enforcement" necessary is to enforce laws already on the books against employers who hire illegals. If that spigot dried up, these people would go home. The "reform" we need is to ease up immigration requirements for our southern neighbors.

I'm opposed to any immigration reform that doesn't include stricter enforcement on employers. Without that, the influx of illegals will never stop.

You mentioned this in another thread, Maggie, and I agree with you: We need to take another look at "anchor babies" too.

I agree completely with that, however the Congress critters and Senate snakes would not allow raids on the big Agra Farms, Tyson Foods and other large corps that hire these illegals.
I confess, I did it, I let the dogs out.

Heya CB. 2 Cents from every tax paying citizen. The Border would be covered and there would be money left over for support services and a Better E-verify system.

Course JR has brought up already about Enforcing existing laws.

Heya NB. I think so too. Also I don't think we need to bring in low skilled laborers. So I think Work Visas and Student Visas should be reworked. Again.....I can't go for the excuse that we don't have Americans with Enough Skills or Degrees for Jobs with PH-D's and Engineering.

Moreover countries that have given us the run around and screwed us over. Less Visas should be accepted from those Countries.

the influx will not stop even if enforcement intensifies... it will stop when the country they come from is just as prosperous as the US.

until the US and Mexico decide to become partners in earnest ..... we'll keep receiving their poor, their hungry,... their huddled masses.
our cultures are not altogether dissimilar... but their government is atrocious and corrupt..the country is poorly run and prosperity doesn't reach far beyond the halls of power.

one of the big problem I have with the immigration problem is remittance payments( sending money back home to feed their remaining family)... a virtual ****-ton of money is removed from our economy and added to latin americas local economies... to the tune of 30 billion a year. ( which is far more than direct foreign private investment and government aid combined)
in return..we get drugs, crime, and additional taxpayer costs to combat immigration.

i'm pretty supportive of immigration... i'm supportive of amnesty...i'm very welcoming of the huddled masses... I think it can be beneficial to all involved parties, but we can't form a system where it's very costly to one party and beneficial to another..discord is sown in such ways.

Re: Menendez: We donít have 60 votes for immigration reform bill

No bill should pass without a better understanding of content, without a rock solid plan to ensure border security, and without some sort of a plan on how to pay for the expanded social spending that will come with embracing 20 million illegal immigrants and thier families.

(Id settle for a nice NFL style trade program...We will keep 20 million illegal immigrants that come here willing to bust their ass for any means of employment they can find if in return they accept 20 million of our crippled dependent lazy ****s that wont work and they have to go live in the socialist Utopia that is mejico)

Has anyone said they would filibuster if not why is this meaningful. The bill already has 4 Republicans, do we know if the supposed 41 are all R or do some dems object?
