IRS Inspector General, Darrell Issa Communicated Multiple Times In 2012

WASHINGTON -- For all the outcry over who in the White House knew about an inspector general report detailing instances of the Internal Revenue Service targeting conservative groups, it turns out someone else was getting regular updates on the issue over the past year: Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.).

    J. Russell George, a Treasury Department inspector general, testified Tuesday to the Senate Finance Committee that his department was in touch with Issa's office several times in 2012 and this year regarding its IRS investigation.
Oh dear it appears Issa may have been caught tampering with the investigation!

Does this somehow absolve the IRS from responsibility?
The devil whispered in my ear, "You cannot withstand the storm." I whispered back, "I am the storm."

We already have a link in another thread. Issa got no details, cause they hadn't put out their report till recently. Knowing an investigation exists is a lot different than having details in hand, which he didn't.

Not the issue. The issue is why was Issa getting involved in what was supposed to be an unbiased investigation. Did he influence or threaten the investigators?

We now need to investigate that to see if he influenced the outcome.

We need to subpoena his communications now to see if he influenced the investigation by making threats or promises. This is a whole new ball game. Politicians should not communicate with investigators. Period. Obama was smart enough to avoid that (can you image the outrage is HE had communicated with the investigators!). Issa wasn't. Now the outcome is suspect.

No matter what might be discovered, you'll argue that it caused the IRS to target Tea Party orgs and not liberal ones......as it should be of course, cause you can't trust those white, bigoted homophobes any farther than you can throw them.

Frankly I am surprised you posted this as it seems to shoot a hole in your 'Issa is a criminal' meme. Certainly you would agree that he exhibited inarguable honor in not publically revealing this audit once he knew about it. One could also surmise that such a 'scandal' going public prior to the election could certainly have affected the election results, regardless of Romney's weakness.

And certainly wouldn't the Administration/IRS/Treasury screamed bloody murder by now if Issa had tampered with the investigation? I mean it would be the standard liberal/progressive meme...blame the other guy...
"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure" - 2006 Senator Obama...leadership failure indeed!
