Senior White House officials were briefed about a federal audit of the IRS’s improper focus on conservatives, but they decided not to tell President Obama about it, press secretary Jay Carney claimed Monday.

White House counsel Kathryn Ruemmler learned about the report in April and made the decision not to tell the president, even as other senior staffers got wind of the audit by Treasury’s inspector general for tax administration, Carney said.

that Tea Party and other small-government advocates seeking tax-exempt status were tagged for special screening because of their names.

Carney defended the decision to keep the president out of the loop, saying conclusions often change in the final stages of inspector general reports. It also would’ve been inappropriate, Carney added, for the White House to involve itself in an ongoing investigation.

Official explanation is that Obama was out of the loop and White House personnel withheld information from him. Expect more to come soon.

Obama minus the high..

If he is truly as ignorant of as much as he says he is then he should seriously consider taking steps to becoming better informed of what is going on. This excuse of his is just making him look like an incompetent boob.

This was an internal issue to begin with. So Obama having knowledge of it would be like asking if he had knowledge of what's going on in the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Sure, he'd probably have some knowledge of laws being passed concerning the IRS, but this is something which would have been handled internally - not something which would get all the way up to the President as anything more than a mention between what's going on in the Middle East and North Korea.

Carney? The man's a known liar. Why would anybody believe anything he says now? Ongoing investigation? I do remember that Bill Clinton couldn't talk about much of anything because everything of any consequence was under investigation. The number of ongoing investigations alone is enough to conclude that things are greatly amiss in this administration.

So its either a lie or the President is merely an incompetent CEO. Neither bode well for him at the end of the day. Considering how tight his inner circle is (or at least have been reported on and written about), I have hard time buying that he had no idea.

I don't think so. The IRS thing has huge political ramifications, as we have seen. Apparently Obama wants "plausible deniability" and therein is a problem. For an executive to want to hide from things is purely political and not executive. Executives are in the business of solving problems and can't do so if they are unaware of the problems. Obama is first and foremost a politician. The only reason he would not have known about this is that he wanted not to know about it. If he were first and formost an executive he would demand to know about problems like this.

Bolded = Bingo!

Plausible deniability. The problem is with the plausible part.

Yeah the buck never stops with obama does it? Mr. Transparent Teflon roles on.

Being out of the loop does not mean he is not responsible. The facts are clear his supporters used their govt power to hinder his opponents. He should be held accountable -- unless his apology includes the termination of all involved.

Bottom line, Carney says Obama is a boob.

So, Obama is absent during Benghazi attack, knows nothing about an IG investigation into IRS targeting conservatives, and had no knowledge of the DOJ targeting the AP and Fox News.

That is the Obama defense in a nutshell... that he is an incompetent moron.

It's actually very scary that our Prez is so incompetent. Of course, I'm not buying his story that he simply did not know, I don't buy it for a second, and it appears as though his legacy would rather be that of an incompetent boob than that of a thug, so I suppose there is some level of "if not this then that" going on. :)

Either way, what an embarrassment he is! Pathetic, and sad!

Out of the IRS loop. Out of the DOJ overreach loop. Out of the Benghazi loop. Out of the Fast and Furious loop.

Who's actually leading this country?

Boy you nailed that one, Obama is the most "I know nothing" president in US history. You hear it over and over and over. Everyone knows nothing. And to make matter worse he keeps from appointing Special Counsel with all it's powers so everyone will continue to know nothing. This is the most "know nothing" administration ever.

Surly not Obama, that's the problem. If he leads anything it's from way behind. It's like he's outside the ball field but still trying to see the game. He's a "know nothing" president.

We told the dingalings that 5 years ago, when he was running. Pick a different candidate. But NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO......"we want the first black president", that's all that mattered. Qualifications meant nothing. The stupid **** was a senator for two years! But they couldn't see, due the blinding light of the messiah.

That is what I was thinking.

I can't imagine that something like this that would have severe consequences on his election is something he would not have been fully breifed on.

If his handlers decided to not inform him about something like this then we really have a puppet president.

Whatever.

Can you possibly imagine, if all these scandals occurred during Bush's administration, what a massive media orgy would be going on? They would have covered the Oklahoma tornado for about 10 minutes, and gone right back to 24-hour "RAMPANT SCANDAL IN THE WHITE HOUSE" coverage.

Can you imagine if Bush said "I wasn't aware that the IRS was picking on PETA and Planned Parenthood, and I didn't know Alberto Gonzalez was harrassing AP and MSNBC."

The media would be screaming that the election was fixed, and that Bush should be hung from the nearest tree.

Instead, look at what's happening. CNN barely acknowledges it, and MSNBC will be in Oklahoma until August.
