2) Domesticated dogs are not "natural." Humans bred wolves with particular traits over numerous generations, selecting them for traits like "obedience." The genetic markers associated with those traits, by the way, happen to also change some physical traits, such as floppy ears.
Domesticated dogs are, in fact, genetic mutations. They are highly unnatural (as is, really, almost everything in our lives today), and we generate whole new breeds as it suits our every whim. And yet, we like having them around; we even have laws to prevent them from being mistreated. We pay attention to them, we pamper them, we puff them up for display.
And we don't think of them as "defective wolves."
The morality of abortion is not a religious belief, any more than the morality of slavery, apartheid, rape, larceny, murder or arson is a religious belief. These are norms of the natural law of mankind and can be legislated even in a completely religionless society.
"To waste, to destroy, our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining in the days of our children the very prosperity which we ought by rights to hand down to them."~ Theodore Roosevelt (Message to Congress, Dec. 3, 1907)
