......Kermit Gosnell guilty of murder in 3 infants’ deaths

So - I ask for a house of horrors, just like Gosnell, and the most you can come up with is a few health violations? Fine the clinics like any other hospital, don't let them open until they can ensure they'll stay up to code. Problem solved. Any house of horrors for me bro? Or you gonna keep showing me how much of a liberal you are?

An abortion clinic by its very existence is a house of whores I mean horrors. I bet you defend women too unless it is a democrat they are accusing of harassing them; hate corporations unless it is a democrat subsidizing them; and hold the military in contempt except for the gay ones. Glad to see you share the "very liberal" principles of your fellow "progressives for some, but oppression for others".

So I'm guessing, no houses of horrors? Just health code violations? Well, I suggest we start closing private hospitals first.

There is no such "past legal age to be aborted".

You can't have an abortion past 24 weeks....these women knowingly went to have abortions after the 24th week.
Do I need to barney style it?

In Pennsylvania it's illegal to have an elective abortion past 24 weeks of gestation. The only exception is if the mother's life is at risk. These were all elective, and all well past 24 weeks.

The sad part is that if the mother had not died, nobody would have taken a second look at this place and he would still be murdering babies.

The department of health actually refused to even investigate one death. There was a full "hand's off" approach afforded to abortion clinics in the US, due to the perception any amount of oversight would serve as a deterrent.

Sad that some pro-choicers are still clinging to this position, despite it's obvious flaws

edit: should be "PA", not "US"

And it's not just the deaths, but his medical equipment wasn't sterilized and had STDs, one of his patients died from an overdose of medications while being treated. The list goes on.

This is not the person pro-choice should be defending.

Gosnell was also actively fudging records to distort the age of the fetus. Since there was so little oversight, he was basically able to regularly perform illegal procedures without any consequence

the facility actively smelled of cat urine and feces, and the health department caught in numerous violations, but just allowed the man to continue to operate. With local doctors even helping to hide procedure related injuries and death

I am a conservative, always vote Republican, and I support legal abortion.

You are mistaken. There is no such limit.

OK, you're right about the 24 week requirement in Pennsylvania. Sorry. I wonder how that's enforced.

Objectify abortion for a moment: It's a medical procedure....how is any regulation on any medical procedure enforced? How does anyone ever know if the law is being followed or not?

one of the elements doctored by Gosnell was the ultrasound tapes, that apparently serve as a record for the age of the fetus

if there is no limit, why was he found guilty of 24 counts of aborting a fetus over 24 weeks?

There was a legal fetal age limit of 24 weeks gestation in Pennsylvania with the exception of saving the life of the pregnant woman.

Both a licence to practice medicine and a bushiness licence are subject to numerous inspections. Everything from the fire department making it's twice-annual inspection of extinguishers and alarms to the Pennsylvania's Medical Licencing and Review Board performing routine inspections of both your records, personal, and a physical inspection of your actual facility, during your licence renewal.

Add to this the fact that numerous complaints were made to the Medical Review Board, not the least of which was the death of a patient, which prompted further investigations. Citations were given, fines issued, until ultimately a crime was uncovered. Not just a mere violation of code, but an actual crime, and then evidence of cover-up.

You ask how a law is enforced. The government makes regular inspections, and regular people also pick up the phone and call the authorities.

Actually Gosnell got nabbed for his drug dealing. left to his own vices on the abortion issue, the state of PA and many physicians seemed more than willing to tolerate Gosnell's practice

I just don't understand it. Even from the angle of patient safety, Gosnell's practice and facility were absolutely horrendous.

Yes. The clinic was beyond filthy, and the equipment lacking too. And yet there was no inspection for 17 years, and it took a narcotics investigation to at least partly bring him to justice.

That's what resonates with me...this wasn't an otherwise upstanding medical practice which just happened to slip up a few times. This facility was disgusting. On top of that, the authorities charged with overseeing health and safety let numerous substantial violations go.

This is a complete collapse of the system.

You're right; there's no excuse for this. The media blacked out the Gosnell trial for weeks, but once Kristen Powers denounced this in USA Today, various outlets began covering the trial. And info about other sordid clinics, for example, the one in D.C., came out.

Here's hoping that every community's county health department is going to exercise due diligence after this disgraceful, inexcusable failure.

I wouldn't even take my dog to a vet office in that condition.

Interesting how he gave up his right to appeal so he wouldn't get the death penalty. He chose life. Huh.
