WOW! For those who blaming Hillary for the lax security, it's definitely not her responsibility. LOL

The Washington Post‘s Glenn Kessler has a story that puts Benghazi in a whole new context.
Although the ambassador was killed, the Benghazi “consulate” was not a consulate at all but basically a secret CIA operation which included an effort to round up shoulder-launched missiles. In fact, only seven of the 30 Americans evacuated from Benghazi had any connection to the State Department; the rest were affiliated with the CIA.
The official reports, such as the one from the Accountability Review Board and the Senate Homeland Security Committee report, essentially dance around that uncomfortable fact:

“In December 2011, the Under Secretary for Management approved a one-year continuation of the U.S. Special Mission in Benghazi, which was never a consulate and never formally notified to the Libyan government.” (ARB)
“The attacks in Benghazi occurred at two different locations: a Department of State ‘Temporary Mission Facility’ and an Annex facility (‘Annex’) approximately a mile away used by another agency of the United States Government.” (Senate report)

So, from the State Department perspective, this was an attack on a CIA operation, perhaps by the very people the CIA was battling, and the ambassador tragically was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But, for obvious reasons, the administration could not publicly admit that Benghazi was mostly a secret CIA effort.

So is Kessler one of those with a family member working in the white house?

You do realize the men who came at great risk from a CIA annex to try and rescue the ambassador at the CONSULATE later died when they returned to their annex. Two different facilities. But then what should we expect from insiders getting special access to spin hilda's failure?

That does not explain why there were more CIA personnal at the consulate the state department officials. Nothing is ever easy to explain if the CIA are involved.

Every U.S. embassy and, I would guess, consulate on this planet has CIA people working there.

For sure some locations have more CIA people than others.

I don't see any reason why the presence of CIA people should relieve the U.S. State Department of it's obligation to provide security at all of its facilities.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't think so.

I don't care if the Ambassador was at a gay poetry slam, shirtless with some guy named Abdul rubbing his shoulders with hot oil. When government employees overseas are under attack and you have the opportunity to save them, people wanting to know why you didn't even try is a damned important question to ask and it shouldn't take a year and tens of millions of dollars to get it.

100% Correct. The presence of CIA operatives or even offices does not mean its not a consulate. This terrorist attack is recorded as having occurred against a consulate not a CIA field office or it's annex.

This is really quite sad. By that I mean the extremes the left will go to in order to defend Hilda. Too bad they don't try half as hard as those men did to save Ambassador Stevens and got killed for it.

Wasn't there some discussions that there was some gun-running going through Libya from Turkey to Syria a while back?

Maybe that was the purpose of this outpost.

If true and I highly doubt it, it would have been the CIA trying to scrub all references to terrorist and the terrorist organization instead of the State Department. So who was going to force those who had these shoulder launched missiles to surrender them? The first thing in an ops like this is to make sure you have your opponents out gunned so if something goes wrong you can handle it. The CIA has done some stupid things in the past, but I do not feel this one is their's.

No, but it wouldn’t have mattered if he was. Embassies and consulates have all manner of what we call “tenant agencies” that are not State Department to included DoD, FBI, DEA, ICE, USAID, Library of Congress, Department of Agriculture, and on and on and on. This is openly declared to the host country. Not all agencies are represented at every compound and there are different make ups at each place. But the building is State Department and the State Department is responsible for the security. Even in places that have a Marine Security Detachment, for the during of that tour those Marines belong to the State Department and answer directly to the Regional Security Officer, who is Diplomatic Security.

I don’t know what the makeup was at the consulate in Benghazi. But it doesn’t matter. Security was the responsibility of the State Department.

The CIA since it's founding have operated from just about every American Embassy and consulate in the world. Before the CIA the only real intelligence agency America had was the Office of Naval Intelligence. For over two hundred years every country had Naval Attaches and Military Attaches working out of their embassies including America.

Anyone who is working for the USA's State Department at any embassy or consulate who isn't always on the alert for anything that might help or hurt the USA is not earning their pay. You can never know too much about what the other people on this planet are thinking.

Right or wrong, that's the way that I see it.

So after 23 CIA operatives wreak havok in benghazi 23 get evacuated, also 7 civilians for good measure.

I was just waiting for the hollywood sipdoctors to turn the story into a noble heroic effort of some sort.

Special forces in the area. Dead ambassodor. CIA gets out in time. "The attack was over"
