Prince Harry visits Arlington National Cemetery

What about the millions of other soldiers who do things in the world. Why is Harry special? Because he was born to someone who claims to rule a country by Gods will?

He's special because through no gift or fault of his own, he was born to his parents and with wealth and opportunity that most folks can only imagine and because he has chosen to live a life of service rather than of indolence. His visiting wounded warriors and so on actually helps bring attention to worthy issues and to raise money.

And so do plenty of other people who wernt born into a particular family. Why arent they similarly worshipped? I dont have any control over the UK, but I can at least try and persuade my fellow posters not to elevate nobility over commoners.

they dont rule the UK so lets get that out of the way and no one is saying he's special but he is a Prince so he's in the limelight and he is an excellent spoksmen for our armed services. He uses the media to pay attention to stuff like the warrior games which ordinarly woud get little coverage. No one cares if a Vet like me runs a marathon for wounded vets because im just another nameless soldier but Harry on the other hand...

They both do and don't rule. The monarch has official power codified in law and protected by the govt. They have special access to govt, and receive taxpayer funding. They get to live on public property simply because their family used violence hundreds of years ago to claim God wanted them to.

My point is we should care if a vet like you runs a marathon. More so because you aren't a special class of citizen. Harry is no more or less important than you, and we don't have to treat him as if he is.

See i respectfully disagree. Harry is royalty and therefore is a British symbol to people around the world so its important he uses his time not just to serve his country but also to bring awareness to causes that otherwise would get little mention. Growing up in palaces, with money etc could easily corrupt a person but Harry seems grounded enough and his charity work far exceeds that of most politicians/celebs.

And what is royalty? Why does that mean anything?
