Jason Richwine Resigns From Heritage Foundation After Dissertation Controversy

Jason Richwine, the co-author of a Heritage Foundation report on immigration who came under fire this week for arguing in his Harvard dissertation that Hispanic immigrants to the U.S. have substantially lower IQs than whites, resigned Friday.

***

"Superior performance on basic economic indicators is to be expected from later generations, who go to American schools, learn English, and become better acquainted with the culture," he wrote. "Despite built-in advantages, too many Hispanic natives are not adhering to standards of behavior that separate middle and working class neighborhoods from the barrio."

"There can be little dispute that post 1965-immigration has brought a larger and increasingly visible Hispanic underclass to the United States, yet the underlying reasons for its existence cannot be understood without considering IQ," he wrote.

He argued that these individuals were more likely to accept government benefits. "When given the choice between a paycheck from a low-paying job and a welfare check, most intelligent people would realize that the welfare check offers them no potential for advancement. Low-IQ people do not internalize that fact nearly as well," he wrote.

And the GOP wonders why it's totally lost the hispanic vote.

But they totally got tokens rubio and crud. Rubio even was that token hispanic kid from Hook. I am quite sure they are Ok with destroying immigration as long as they credit their hispanic tokens for it. I am sure the hispanic people of the US will never see through that, and will totally become republican.

Somehow, Rubio should be forced to take an IQ test to stay true to the GOP's latest narrative about immigration.

And the GOP wonders why it's totally lost the hispanic vote.

I don't think this had anything to do with it because the low IQ opinion didn't come out until after the election. Arizona SB 1070 is what cost the GOP the Hispanic vote not because it was simply an Arizona law but because numerous states with GOP leadership promised to pass similar legislation. Not that the GOP would have won the majority of Hispanic votes anyway but the level of protest votes against the GOP by Hispanics I'm sure wouldn't have been as large.

I also don't think the damage is reparable. Yes, just like black Republican representation there will be some Hispanic GOP representation but I can't see the GOP winning anything more than in the teens percent of the Hispanic vote at best in future Presidential elections in our lifetime at this point. Even if Rubio or Cruz are the nominees, I could be wrong but don't see it happening. This is itself funny because I hear that as the silver bullet to get the Hispanic vote from my politically active Republican friends, who happen to be the same exact people who condemn "identity politics" all the time if we're talking about black voters supporting Obama.

I think the GOP needs to just adjust to being a regional political force in key areas of the country. We can compete to control select state governments and getting some Congressional seats but IMHO our only hope to win the White House would be a popular third party somehow splitting the democrat vote (when the strongest possible third party options are all conservative), the democrats getting arrogant and ramming through policy unpopular with the majority of Americans, a RINO rock star candidate who is popular with liberals or a huge Watergate type scandal that creates a distrust for the democrats and the GOP as the rescuer.

We agree. I think the GOP is doomed demographically to become a regional party. I can't envision it every winning the presidency again. And I don't see how the Senate won't continue to slip away from GOP influence as statewide elections result in more moderate (i.e., Democratic) candidates which the GOP won't be able to beat except in the most virulently rightwing states (which are also receding.)

Also, continuously telling hispanics (and other minorities) that they only vote Democrat for handouts. The implication being that white people vote on ideology? Why, how superior us white people must be! Heyyyy how come those darn minorities aren't voting for us!?

Why take a test. His own party says he is a low IQ moron, and I am pretty cool with agreeing with his own supporters about his lacking intelligence. It is Bipartisan agreement.

If the GOP were to ask my optinon this is what I'd say with respect to Hispanic support. Number one, quit thinking that all you have to do to speak a little Spanish to them. It's amazing to me to see politicians start rattling off in Spanish as if thats what it takes to win the hearts and minds of Hispanics. Every single Hispanic I know is fluent in English. If I were Hispanic I'd be insulted just like I'd be if a politician made a speech to backs in Ebonics as if that's the only way blacks can comprehend what you're saying.

Secondly, try not to focus on politics went it comes to Hispanic support. I know it'll be hard because to political types politics is practically a religion and some go nuts as election gets close but try. Do some research and find out what the biggest needs Hispanics think are important. Then create privately funded non-profits that address those needs in practical ways consultant with GOP approaches. Heck, we just blew $500 million dollars on the 2012 election and lost so there shouldn't be a shortage on money.
I haven't done or seen any research but an educated guess might be English language tutoring for new immigrants, education and mentiring in starting successful small businesses, education in US history and civics, help with after school tutoring for kids, legal assistance in immigration matters and maybe establishing travel clubs so that Hispanics and their Americn friends can take advantage of group discount tours back to their home countries for vacation. Again, research is better; these are just my guesses.

Be a friend. From my observation the majority of GOP support that comes from the black community is a product of non-political relationships. I haven't seen any data by in casual observation it appears to me the blacks in America who identify with the GOP were an outgrowth of relationships in the businessworld, evangelical churches and membership in the US military. Friendships forged lead to open talks on a wide range of topics and that includes starting to see eye to eye on politics. I became a republican not because somebody insulted my intellegence and pandered to me in an election year but I started going to an evangelical church. I made friends and started to see the GOP (at the time) supported the values I had while the democrats actively opposed them. One of me best friends because a police officer and saw the effects democrat policy was having on the inner-city and fellow officers over time helped him see it was the republicans who lived in the suburbs who had lower rates of crime while the democrat inner-city was filled with problems and made him ask what kind of neighborhoods does he honestly think would he want to raise his family, mostly democrat or mostly republican. For those in the military where blacks btw are a higher Per capita percentage, which party respects you and your sacrifice the most, wants your family to be well compensated and wants you to have the best equipment, training and back up having nothing to do with politics; just appreciation for the troops and honor fir their sacrifices? This is what wins hearts and minds, not election year pandering. The one are where I think the GOP really blowing it with blacks is the attitude of disdain over black American heritage.

So a resignation isn't good enough for you? Maybe you'd like to have him killed? Would that work for you?

He said... absolutely nothing of the sort. Are you sure you quoted the correct post?

Look at Mexico and ask yourself if you want the USA to look LIKE Mexico.

Hi, I'm currently living in Mexico, it's a Libertarian-right-wing paradise. The only way you actually starve in this country is if you don't work. Mexico is what the US would look like if Mexico without social programs.

What in THE Hell are you saying??? Did anyone say a thing about harming the idiot in question? If every 'native' was shot for being as stupid as this guy the supporters of the Heritage bunch would be the minority...

It is a filthy corrupt cess pool.

It's a right wing filthy corrupt cesspool. 100+ years of PRI power. Natural resources sold to the highest bidder. The free market invoked to sell off the country's beaches. Bare bones social programs. The children of the poor told if they don't have money they can't attend schools. Rampart homophobia and social conservatism. Teachers paid 600$ a month. Why do you hate capitalism and freedom so much?

It is a filthy corrupt cess pool.

It's a conservative paradise: no regulation, the rich run politics, no social safety net, no enivornmental or worker protection, the federal government is underfunded and ineffectual.

Be careful what you lobby for. Romney's America would look a lot like Mexico.

Pssst: this is a political forum where we talk about politics. Get used to it.

As to killing people, are your channeling Ann Coulter or something?

Point taken.

The conservative plan to win over the votes of minorities is amazing: tell them they're stupid and lazy, and that their parents were the same, and that Democrats are lying to them by not pointing that out

Helluva strategy for victory.

Not at all. We understand the Democrat's appeal to low IQ voters.

I
We have conservative ugly anti-minority meme liftoff!

It was just a matter of time before a true conservative spoke up in defense of Richwine's racial theory of immigration. Next stop, the GOP will argue for phrenological examinations of immigrants to see if they meet Aryan standards.

Not at all. I merely state the obvious, that voters of any background once informed, educated, possessed of private property and minimally sophisticated in their abilities to employ basic historical awareness, economic acumen, and analytical thinking will naturally gravitate to the Right.

People steeped in dependency, lacking in education, with a low self regard and habituated to a subservient position in Society will gravitate towards self-proclaimed political "protectors" to whom they will grant the soverenty that they have never been taught to value.

Please, feel free to osculate my meme.

And now the smug gloss on the ugly meme.

Like clockwork.

This is why I'm so optimistic that the only conservatives that will be left in America in a decade or two will be holed up in compound somewhere in Idaho, oiling their guns and waiting fruitlessly for the zombie apocalypse, while the rest of us move on to a more prosperous future.
