So what if that person felt that way? So fecking what.

But I am of an age where we didn't carry on like a rather minor victory is the same as winning the Superbowl.
They qualified for the state finals. That is as big as it gets for most kids. It is their Superbowl, and when I was competing... I played to win and enjoyed it, and celebrated winning. And... raising your hand isn't quite like an NFL dance and prance celebration.

We... the human species... are really just a bunch of big dumb lumps of flesh, aren't we?

then you are a hypocrite and everything you say on the matter is just babble.

But I am of an age where we didn't carry on like a rather minor victory is the same as winning the Superbowl. One bunch laments participation trophies and another bunch can't stand watching a buncha morons, highly physically talented morons, carry on with each and every of dozens of TDs, blocks, tackles, sacks there will be each season as if celebrating it is V-J day all over again...

And sometimes those two bunches have the same members....
yeah, the issue seems to be one of moderation: we have a problem with excessive celebration. We do? Well, let's just ban everything

You sure do like to apply new conditions after the fact, don't you?

If we are truly in love she won't get bent out of shape for me saying, "ohmygods".

The so fecking what of this centers on the opinion being very ill-informed and most likely a partisan whine about 'poor' Christians being hounded rather than violating a rather simple rule- ALL over the head gestures are prohibited.

So who doesn't compete to win? Who doesn't enjoy winning? That all sounds silly and pointless to the discussion.

You don't stop and think about things do you? I'd imagine the rules on celebrating came about as High School kids started imitating professional players and their antics. I can see the relay teams standing on the finish all doing a chest jump, we all fall down display or some such foolishness. So where does the rules committee draw the line? It isn't that pointing up is bad but rather what else does the committee allow?

I don't see anywhere where the rules say no celebrating, no 'ya can't be happy about winning'. Just no arms overhead....FYI I do believe there is a great shot of Mia Hamm celebrating at the Olympics after a goal, now THAT is as good as it gets, and her hand gestures were to her side so the very idea of raised hands is ingrained in athletes is a bit much.

Bottomline is the kid and his coach knew the rules and as hard a lesson as it is....

    Not that that is excessive....

Be careful what you wish for they just might ban ALL celebrations. Now wouldn't that be silly and of course in no way and no how have they banned ALL celebrating now have they?

Different issue. Plus, his team wasn't disqualified, but he's probably going to prison.
