    1) We certainly need a day of prayer. Why? To pray for the retards in congress who don't know what reason is.

    2) We will never have a day of reason. Why? See #1.

San Francisco Congressman Pete Stark is in the U.S. House of Representatives combatting the National Day of Prayer for the second year in a row, calling for a National Day of Reason. Stark proclaimed Friday:

“The National Day of Reason celebrates the application of reason and the positive impact it has had on humanity. It is also an opportunity to reaffirm the Constitutional separation of religion and government… I encourage everyone to join in observing this day and focusing upon the employment of reason, critical thinking, the scientific method, and free inquiry to improve our world and our nation.”

The National Day of Prayer began in 1952 when Congress passed a joint resolution signed into law by President Truman to observe a national day of prayer. President Reagan signed an amended version of that law in 1988 which set the official day as the first Thursday of every May. Read more about this national day’s history on National Day of Prayer’s website. Every year the President signs a proclamation making that year’s National Day of Prayer official. President Obama’s proclamation this year can be read here.

Secularists started calling for a National Day of Reason in 2003 when the American Humanist Association and the Washington Area Secular Humanists launched a website calling all from “the community of reason” to celebrate inclusive reason on the same day as the exclusive National Day of Prayer. They argue on their About page that the National Day of Prayer violates the First Amendment of the US Constitution as it sets aside tax dollars to support religion.

Stark also spoke at the Reason Rally, which drew about 20,000 atheists to the National Mall in March.....snip~

So today Stark brought out his Day of Reason on the House Floor. What is your thoughts concerning the Day of Prayer being set by Congress and those That say it is Unconstitutional and that the Day should be called the Day of Reason?

Also the Mayor of North Carolina that Obama wants to make as his Transportation Secretary jumped up into the Limelight.....by Declaring Today the Day of Reason as a Proclamation.
I hope they would use reason 24/7, not just on a designated day.

Does God Answer Prayer? Researcher Says 'Yes'

The answer, according to a new Arizona State University study published in the March journal Research on Social Work Practice, is "yes." David R. Hodge, an assistant professor of social work in the College of Human Services at Arizona State University, conducted a comprehensive analysis of 17 major studies on the effects of intercessory prayer -- or prayer that is offered for the benefit of another person -- among people with psychological or medical problems. He found a positive effect.

Why do we need a National Day of Talking to Yourself? It's stupid.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

he is a president. If he is endorsing something we should get the profits because without the position given to him by us he would just be some guy. he should not be endorsing any religion with his position given the first amendment. neither should congress. Oh, and if you still cannot see why he shouldn't be supporting one prayer type over another how would you feel if he said we would have a national prayer moment to pray to mecca 4 times a day? All of a sudden then we would be all about the first amendment.

if people want to pray or not it is up to them, but our government should not be getting into the act and having a nationally sponsored day of prayer. Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion. They cannot tell you not to pray or what to pray to, but they also cannot tell you to pray aty all because it violates the first amendment. Funny how few of the constitution lovers seem to find this offensive.

Re: Day of Prayer vs Day of Reason 2013.....

    some history:

The National Day of Prayer (36 U.S.C. § 119) is an annual day of observance held on the first Thursday of May, designated by the United States Congress, when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation". Each year since its inception, the president has signed a proclamation, encouraging all Americans to pray on this day. The modern law formalizing its annual observance was enacted in 1952, although the first observance took place in 1779 on orders of George Washington, then the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army.

The constitutionality of the law that established the National Day of Prayer is currently under challenge by the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF). In April 2011, a three-judge panel of a federal appellate court ruled that FFRF lacked standing, and, without addressing the law's constitutionality, unanimously overturned a previous court's ruling that it was unconstitutional. FFRF immediately appealed the decision.
