Lawyer up, Issa warns CIA staff.....

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is pushing ahead with his investigation of last year’s fatal attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, by preparing federal agencies to allow employees to lawyer up.

In separate letters to the legal offices of the CIA, State Department and Defense Department, Issa said some witnesses on the issue might need lawyers, if their agencies decide to retaliate against them for their testimony.

“During the course of the investigation, numerous individuals have approached the committee with information related to the attack,” wrote Issa in the letters, which were obtained by The Hill.

He asked agencies to provide details on how to grant outside attorneys the security clearances necessary for them to adequately represent employees discussing classified matters with congressional investigators.

Some witnesses may be required to retain personal counsel to represent them before the committee and in the event the agency subsequently retaliates against them for cooperating with the committee’s investigation,” he said.

Additional witnesses may be compelled by subpoena to give testimony to the committee and can be reasonably expected to retain personal counsel at that time.”

The letters are the latest sign that Issa is ramping up his investigation of the Benghazi attack and potential security and managerial failures that led up to it. He initially launched the probe last year, about a month after the attack.

Issa also warned the agencies against taking negative action toward any employees that help his panel with its investigation.

“[I]t is important that the agency makes clear to its employees that they are free to furnish information to Congress in accordance with their statutory rights,” wrote Issa.

Additionally, retaliation against a witness who communicates with the committee can be considered obstruction of a congressional investigation and is punishable by fine and imprisonment.”

Myself, I would say Issa is going to put to rest all of those claims about how Managerial Failures lead up to a Big Fat Nothing.

    Careful what you wish for.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) will press House leaders to subpoena the survivors of last year's attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi.

Graham told Fox News he would meet with Republican House leaders on Thursday to ask them to issue the subpoenas. House Republicans hold the majority in the lower chamber and have the power to subpoena the White House, while Senate Republicans do not.

But we will not have you explain away how We need to come together to work things out with Congress and the State. Nor sit and try and tell us how much mail comes across your desk. Deflect with how you are responsible.....but it wasn't you. Nor Will we Accept your Answer of What difference does it make. As I am about to show you what that Damn Difference is......especially since it your Negligence and Your Incompetency that we are talking about.

We dont know what wasnt revealed because it wasnt revealed. Also, hearings -

The hearing announcement comes one day after President Obama said he was unaware of complaints from potential Benghazi whistle-blowers who contend they have been threatened over their cooperation with investigators looking into the Sept. 11, 2012, attack. Mr. Obama pledged to look into the matter, and the State Department later denied there had been any official pressure on witnesses inside the administration.

Earlier Tuesday, power lawyer Victoria Toensing, a former Justice Department official and counsel to the Intelligence Committee, said at least four career officials at the State Department and the CIA are complaining that unnamed administration officials have tried to intimidate them into not cooperating with congressional investigators. The officials, whom Ms. Toensing described as whistle-blowers, have hired lawyers or are in the process of doing so.

that being said, time will tell. if fox's agenda-driven coverage turns out to be the rare Enquirer / Edwards scenario and Obama really is some sinister character directing a top-down Nixonian conspiracy, I'll acknowledge that I was incorrect in this instance. hopefully the other side will agree to the same terms if this ends up not being Watergate.

good. what is taking them so long to do this?
could it be that they know there is nothing there

and regarding the subpoena of white house officials, i don't think so:
The President relies upon his staff to provide him candid advice. The framers of the Constitution understood this vital role when developing the separate branches of government. And if the staff of a President operated in constant fear of being hauled before various committees to discuss internal deliberations, the President would not receive candid advice, and the American people would be ill-served.... I will oppose any attempts to subpoena White House officials.... My choice is to make sure that I safeguard the ability for Presidents to get good decisions.

Apples and oranges. Bush replaced political appointees, completely within this powers, and wanted info from advisors. Wheras this is about an attack on US territory which covers both branches, and they want info from witnesses.

Congress openly defying the president and sending subpoenas out to people he has banned from testifying and not allowed to talk to the media is not taken lightly by congress. It is a big move that many of the spineless wimps don't have the balls for.
