AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - Texas Governor Rick Perry on Friday said a gun manufacturer that has decided to leave Connecticut should "come on down" to the Lone Star State.

PTR Industries, a maker of military-style rifles, threatened to leave Connecticut after the passage of one of the toughest gun-control laws in the United States. Connecticut enacted the measure in the wake of the Newtown school shooting that killed 20 first-graders and six adults.

"Hey, PTR," Perry posted on Twitter on Friday. "Texas is still wide open for business!! Come on down!"

The Connecticut law bans high-capacity ammunition clips of the kind used in the December school shooting and adds to the firearms covered by the state's assault-weapons ban.

A second Connecticut gun company, Stag Arms, a maker of AR-15 style rifles, is also threatening to leave the state. The companies are being wooed by officials from gun-friendlier states such as Florida and Arkansas, as well as Texas.

Free country

Why support a state that isn't friendly to your business? There are plenty of other states who would love the additional jobs and revenue successful businesses could generate.

Why shouldn't they move to Texas? They already said they will leave a state that is unfriendly to them. Since Texas currently has a high enough population and the most tax friendly laws in the country, why shouldn't a business consider it? He not only has made offers to that company, but has made offers to any company that finds their current location to be overly burdensome due to taxes and state laws.

The only downside to such a move by the gun maker or any other company would be if it caused brain-dead liberals to move also, thus infecting Texas and possible causing a repeat of the same conditions that caused the moves.

Well take your companies and the good people, you keep the Liberals, progressives and any other socialist/commies.

It never ceases to amaze me that if a Liberal said such things about Conservatives, they'd get a smack down real quick. I guess it's ok if you're demeaning Libbos.

I can only imagine what you'd say if the shoe was on the other foot. What if a company said "We don't care for Texas' attitude toward gays. Maybe we'll move to a state that's more gay friendly." The Conservative Persecution Complex would be coming out in full force.

good point, which i have raised to of other subjects, ...what is the point of liberals /progressives leaving states which support their valves and they have voted for.......to now move to a state which does not support their values.

in short........why leave California which you have turn into a socialist state by your actions, and move to a state with more liberty.... because the socialist state you created screwed you over with it laws/ regulations and taxes....thats what you voted for

It's harder to make the glorious revolution happen from such distances.

i dont help elect politicians who create laws /regulations, and increase my taxes, and when protest them...... by moving away from them.

if i helped create the problem, by electing them , then why not sit in the mess you make.

PTR Industries has a whopping 42 employees. It won't be missed.

the question is should it be missed?

yes, because of the politicians in that state they are driving out a business which pay taxes to them.

a state acting as though it does not care if the people employed in it have a job or not is not a sign of good government.

Well, thats somewhat of a mystery. PTR industries appears to be quite a struggling little enterprise, having gone through a restructuring and a lawsuit for failure to pay its bills. Much of its property is also tax exempt so I doubt its much of a loss in tax revenue.

Employed for the purpose of making weapons of mass murder? I should think not.

ah another candidate for the silly anti gun idiotic wall of shame. weapons of mass murder-what silliness

Says the armchair general with a keyboard.

Wrong-says the guy who knows more about the subject than you will ever know. when you post something silly like calling a PTR (ever found a single case of one of them being used in a crime-they are big heavy expensive rifles) a weapon of mass murder you pretty well condemn anything you post on this subject to the dung heap of psychobabbling

Although I myself am not a gun owner, I find this silly. Guns are also for hunting and for sport-shooting as well as self-protection. This hyperbole doesn't serve you well.

All this hoopla over a company with 42 employees?

A lot of people just wasted their time reading this thread. LOL.

Actually the real point of the thread is the business friendliness of Texas, and here's another case of a company leaving an unfriendly state. It really could be any business, but right now it relates to gun rights.

Texas is booming right now. I know, I just moved back here from Chicago. Dallas is noticeably larger and more populated than when I left, and there is new construction everywhere.
