Georgia’s Republican governor won’t endorse town’s first racially integrated prom

I think that congressional black caucus sets the wrong example by having a skin color requirement for membership, precisely because it gives fodder to people like you. That doesn't mean your attempts to equate them with the racist community in Wilcox county are anything other than dishonest.

well, that's a rather shallow reason for you to not agree with CBC's racial segregation <shrugs>..... but i'm used to people like you harping on racism/segregation/discrimination there, excusing it over there... same ol' **** i've seen since the 60's.

the only segregation I see as "just" is the self segregation that humans tend to engage in... which usually manifests itself in their forming of high trust sub-societies.
when they start becoming exclusionary, I start having a problem, though.

The CBC has no skin color requirement

I'd ask you to prove that the CBC excludes white people but I know that would be futile

Black Caucus: Whites Not Allowed - Josephine Hearn - POLITICO.com

the caucus is for African Americans only... whites are not allowed.

i'm certain you are basing your argument off of their official bylaws.... but you are most certainly ignoring reality when you make these arguments.. a reality that the members of the caucus call bull**** on as well.

Thanks for proving that I was right

The bylaws of the caucus do not make race a prerequisite for membership, a House aide said, but no non-black member has ever joined.

my question would be, why would the governor of a state .."give hoot in Hell" about a prom.

it would be like obama worrying about the zoning of my property.........

Segregation....... Because its segregation...

If I am racist trash who bans black people from my party, it is entirely appropriate for the governor to exercise his right to free speech and condemn my immoral actions.

Obviously it's whites being racist, right? It must be, is that it?

if you feel you are right and myself and the members of the black caucus are wrong... well, i'm ok with that.... it's an odd reality to live in, but it's your own.

This is like arguing that a country club isn't white only, because they only use unofficial means to push out potential black members.

and he would still wind up looking like a political coward who refused to take a position regarding a racial question

Only to the tabloid politicos. It's not a relevant issue to the governor's office. This tactic of taking non issues and trying to make them front page news will stop as soon as enough people stop reacting to it. It's an attempted gotcha moment that fizzled and the racists are disappointed again. For instance, if you asked me about it I'd tell you I don't care one way or the other. Then those who want it to be an issue can stand on the street corner and call me a racist, I just won't be there to hear them. I have more important things to do. Ever heard the term "useful idiots"?

just out of curiosity, if the government, in any shape, at any level is not discriminating, is not favoring, is not interfering with one group or the other -- what business is it of anyone's other than the parties involved and the ones paying for these proms whether it is segregated or integrated?

People always cry about freedom but it always seems they want to impose their will, what "they think is right" on other people..

The congressional black caucus was formed in 1971, a time when overt racism was alive and well in politics. Black politicians were justifiably very leery about trusting a society which has systematically oppressed them for its entire existence. The black caucus was formed because it was one the one political group that would actually be able to provide influence for the black community.

Your continued attempts to pretend that is the same thing as the blind hatred that motivates segregated proms is simply bull****. Oppressed members of a minority group banding together for support is not motivated by racism, its the sad result of being on the receiving end of it.

Wilcox County is a majority white community in Georgia that has chosen to hold segregated proms. Yes, that means a group of people who happen to have low melanin content are engaging in racial persecution. Are you trying to imply that there is another possible explanation?

It's been going on so long, what makes you think that all the blacks want to party with whites?

Oh yes, I'm sure that the segregation is purely voluntary and that the black locals are totally invited to the prom and simply choose not to attend. That is pure rationalizing delusion. You sound like the bleeding heart idiots who claim that Osama Bin Laden was "framed".

With apologies to Pete Townsend:

"Meet the New South...da da...da da
Same as the Old South...da da...da da"

the portion of your post found in bold font is why you are so wrong on this matter
racial discrimination is NOT a non-issue

for the governor to refuse to take a stand evidences his cowardice

Republicans can't get the Africsn-Amerixan vote because they have allowed Democrats to paint them a certain way.

Why the Governor of a State would be asked about a local issue. It's not a state issue. There was no answer he could have given that would not have pissed some people off. He should have just refused to answer the question.

Yeah, but you know, nobody was asking him to do much. All he had to do was say "I think an interracial prom is a good idea." One sentence, no story.

All I can say is that his political people must be idiots that they can't see that politics is 90% perception. Instead of a one sentence statement that makes it a non-story, they launch into a diatribe about "leftists."

What's the difference? Is this 1913 or something?

If they choose not to, that's their choice, but it should be their choice.

A prime example of "two wrongs don't make a right". And those who point back to pre civil war slavery and think we owe them something need to pull their pants up, get a job, and figure out that nobody still alive ever owned slaves in this country.

Saying that would have pissed somebody off, rest assured. There are a lot of people out there with a hate on just waiting for someone to stick it to. It wasn't his issue. Saying nothing about it was the way to go. Kind of like here, eventually we figure out not to feed the trolls. Goodbye. ;)

Well, I see your point. No Southern governor can be seen to be against segregation and in favor of integration. There is that 'Southern Strategy' to consider. You are correct. Just duck the question.
