CNN Poll: Obama Underwater on Key Issues....

Evening Polgara.....Image means so much in American politics. A friendly, comforting smile and a little charm can go a long way. FDR, JFK, Reagan, and Obama have all had them, and Obama will probably join the others as having above average approval ratings upon leaving office.

Good afternoon, MMC. :2wave:

It's indeed strange that BHO can have an overall approval rating while at the same time have a major disapproval rating on most issues! I always thought the way issues were handled was what defined the Presidency. Does this survey mean that he's probably considered likeable enough by the public, but on major issues, the majority doesn't agree with him on anything? It would be interesting to see how the poll questions were worded, and who was polled.

These are odd poll results for a POTUS, since that job is usually defined by how often people agree with what he is doing, but it does confirm that 51 percent of the people think they want a TV-type showman who makes smiling promises to them, and has excuses when they are not kept. Americans must be unique, as well as endlessly forgiving of failure, since other countries always hold their politicians responsible for their actions, and either vote them out or remove them by other means, as we've seen. Go figure...

I would, I am sure team Obama does too. But will it change the way they are doing things? I highly doubt it. November 2014 is still a long way off. Then remember Obama Care, when it was passed 58% was against and only 39% were in favor. What the public wanted or didn't want, team Obama paid no attention to it.

If I were on team Obama, I wouldn't pay much attention to these polls this far out. But if I were a senator scheduled to run for re-election in Nov of 2014, I would take a good look at them, but continue to back my president. Now around June or July of next year, then I might just change my stance depending on how the people of my state view these issues. Americans have a very short memory.

Good afternoon, Pero. :2wave:

I think that the Democrats realized long ago that Americans have short memories. Nothing else explains why they continue to repeat over and over the same old tired lines about Bush's "failures" from years ago...which, IMO, is simply a way to divert attention away from BHO's failures, which unfortunately for BHO, are current ones.

As an example, as has been pointed out on these threads, BHO has yet to even meet, much less exceed, the economic successes that Bush achieved during his terms as POTUS. Since the economy affects us all, in one way or another, we never hear about that because it is not good for BHO, and therefore ignored or skirted as necessary. Instead, they target birth control, or Roe vs Wade, or Equal Pay for Women, or any number of other "hot button" issues that are already law, but are guaranteed to move attention away from things that demand accountability, like our crumbling infrastructure and unemployment in this country.

When I read that the Senate is wasting time by revoting on laws that are already on the books, because they chose to change a line or two in said law, i wondered why, when there are so many areas that need immediate attention. The only conclusion I could draw is that they don't know how to fix the problems we face. Maybe it's time to get people in there that do! The debt clock is still ticking away at $10 million dollars per minute....

Evening Pol, I probably won’t be around long tonight. To be honest here, Bush Jr. did leave a quagmire of things that needed to be cleaned up. Obama got us out of Iraq and about to Afghanistan. But I think some of his policies has hurt the economic recovery. But I am no economic guru, so this is my gut speaking to me.

Yes, right now it is social issues that is dominating the news, unless North Korea blows up. But you are right, not media attention of just 88,000 new jobs and the increasing amount of people that just gave up looking for work. The Republicans help the president out on the social issues by constantly sticking their foot into their mouth.

I do not think either party knows how to fix the problems facing America today. If they do, they certainly do not have the political will. It could be done, but every American would have to suffer a little, but if you make everyone suffer a little, you lose the next election. So nothing gets done and we continue to head for the abyss. Once in it, every American will be suffering a whole lot when they need not of had to. Thanks to our present day elected leaders.

Excellent post, Pero! :2wave:

Why is it necessary to jump into the abyss to learn the lesson? Anyone who believes it will be enjoyable has a rude awakening coming! i'd rather take a whack now than a beating later... :afraid:

So would I, but when everyone of our elected leaders is looking to the next election and not towards the future of this country, you get business as usual and he continuing to kick the can down the road. None of our elected leaders are willing to do what it takes to get this country back on solid financial grounds. They just want to win the next election and once the country falls into the abyss, then perhaps after it is too late, some will do what was needed to be done several years ago.
