Turn a blind eye..they have oil..

I'm pretty sure Saudi Arabia asks itself the very same question.

Do you really consider this country to be your ally?..\

no. they are a dictatorship using religion to distract attention from their tyranny. i look forward to a time when we replace oil so that i no longer have to send them any of my money. i hope to live long enough to see that day.

fifteen out of the nineteen hijackers were from Saudi Arabia, and we attacked Afghanistan and Iraq instead.

Who cares?

Besides, what has this got to do with the price of tea in China?

Who cares???

I do..

Tell me..do you not find it a tad disturbing??

Ok..I get you..these people must also be punished...but surgically paralysed??...crucified..eyes gouged out??

HELL!!

The whole problem in the Middle East is the best reason to sever that ties to any foreign source of Energy.

We need to get all of the private industry in the United States churning and get the Natural Gas harvested through Fracking and cut off the imports of energy from any other place.

Mexico and Canada would be acceptable in the near term.

There is no percentage in having our destiny tied to the insanity of a culture dominated by the relics of a stone age religion.

I agree that, to us, their justice system seems whacked. My point is that our patchwork justice system is such that the same crime often gets vastly different sentencing treatment and that a much more serious crime (e.g. child rape) can get a much shorter sentence than a far less serious crime (e.g. driving drunk).

The idea of treating other nations as if we should be able to dictate their internal affairs, while insisting that they have no say in our internal affiars is moronic. We apply serious sanctions against nations that allow some voting (e.g. South Africa) yet give "most favorable nation" status to others that allow no voting at all (e.g. China).

Our foreign policy is mostly based on $$$; if a nation is deemed good for our business leaders to deal with then it is also good for our gov't to get cozy with. Mexico has a far more screwed up justice system than Canada, yet we freely trade with both out of simple convenience ignoring the fact that Mexico is a corrupt narco-terrorist state.

Much like Afghanistan being both an enemy and a good firend; we are at war in Afghanistan (until next year - when we will declare "victory") yet still pump billions in foreign aid into its corrupt gov't. Egypt is another such mess - we pay them to "make nice" with Israel yet supply them massive military aid when they have no real enemies (except Israel?).

And then, of course, there is GITMO; a prison for "detainees" that will likely never be tried (or released) and most of these "detainees" are not even charged with any crime.

Can you even compare?? This 24-year-old was 14 years old when he did this. It's horrific, in my opinion. And for those who question the source (as was done on a thread yesterday), here's a MSM link: Saudi court orders man to be paralyzed as an Islamic punishment - World News

If there was one thing mankind could do to prove it deserves the blessing of life, it would be for "the rest of us" to completely disassociate ourselves from countries who engage in this kind of torture. We can't change them...but we can ensure they live on an island alone. IMO, every civilized country in the world should publicly condemn Saudi Arabia in the hopes that they can be shamed into changing these kinds of laws.

Horrific.

Well lets see:

Doesn't the USofA soapbox about morals and doing the right thing?
Aren't we supposedly the great saviors of freedom and equal rights?
Don't we preach from high on top of the pulpit about justice?

I believe hypocrisy isn't part of our moral code is it? Or is it?

Because in many instances, like the one mentioned in the OP, we (the USofA) sure do appear to be gigantic hypocrites.

"If you sell us oil, we don't give a damn what atrocities you commit."

Yes - it's the biggest and best reason to develop an alternative energy source ASAP. The sooner "we" can cut ties with anyone outside of our borders the better.

Child rape is legal in Thailand..Pedophiles go from all over the world to abuse these poor kids..

We also have blood on our hands for £££'s...we are giving foreign aid to Pakistan and India..India has it's own nuclear weapons...

Yet..everyday we are bombarded with footage of starving children...

I don't know about you..but these persistant calls for money..**** me off..

Like Africa..what a bottomless pit!!

As for ''Gitmo''...I am sure America knew what it was doing...

OK. As long as this "condemnation" is simply blowing wind on the UN floor, but what is our real power to change their internal justice system (Sharia law)? Then what of China and Mexico - China has ZERO human rights and uses forced abortions, Mexico is clearly a corrupt narco-terrorist state that dumps bodies along side the roadways, has prisons that resemble medieval dungeons and yet refuses to extradite folks to the US since we have the DP.

My point is that once we base international trade on the internal politics of our "partners" that can of worms is then wide open. Saudi Arabia is a big player in OPEC, which has a huge impact on our economy, as well as a propensity to support "terrorists" if they no longer have reason not to do so. We have already let Egypt play us for fools as we now give open military support to the Muslim Brotherhood - soon to be repeated in Lybia and Syria it seems. Just to keep Israel from being wiped out costs us many billions every year. The use of Sharia law is widespread in the middle east and they will not change simply to please the US, much less the UN.

What of China and Mexico? Once you start down that "righteous" road - how far do you go?

KSA is not dictatorship.. and 6 of the 9/11 criminals were using fake IDS.

Much better than your original I replied to. I agree. What you say is very true. And very sad.

The Saudi's have had brutal punishment form crimes for many, many years, and now you are concerned?

Feel free to invade yet another country to impart your morals on them.

It has worked so well in N Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan.

You and your indignant disdain are many years late to the party.

Gosh, you need to move elsewhere to a more morally acceptable country.

My original post was simply to point out that our own "just us" system is whacked. We pretend to have a jury of your peers system yet less than 10% ever see that day in court - at least on the original charge(s). 90% (or more) of our "cases" are "handled" by plea deals, usually for a single "lesser included offense", that result in token sentences to keep the "case clearance" rate up. Only high profile cases, with politcal/press appeal, get tried in court and then we see that Casey Anthony can walk and people like George Zimmerman get put through the ringer while those that stay out of the press (most cases) get quietly handed very sweet plea deals.

Florida teen gets life for murdering 2 British tourists | Fox News

Note the lengthy criminal histories of these fine folks that also finally killed foreign tourists, and thus made headlines, in FL:

Uwe-Wilhelm Rakebrand murder 9/08/1993 Miami, FL *German tourist killed on honeymoon; Three convicted; sentenced to life in prison* | Bonnie's Blog of Crime

Note the "why" for finally getting a really long sentence:

And these are all countries that have been invaded..with you lost...

Saudi Arabia did public beheadings etc in the 1990's..and their cutting of hands..we needed the black stuff...so we all put our fingers in our ears and sang La-la-la..

However..surgically crippled people have taken on a new perspective..

Just seeing how far they can push us before we object..

Never forget that the 9/11 bombers were either Saudi..or funded by Saudi..

Like Pakistan..you are sending funds..they hid osama bin laden for years..next to a police station...

Wake up boy..

I am not your boy.

I also have enough intelligence to recognize what can be changed, and what cannot.

Other than bitching on the internet, what have you done?

That you be nothing, other than acting holier-than-thou.

Spin again.

Whoa...

I am not acting ''holier than thou''

Could you tell me why these atrocities do not bother you..
