8,853,614: Americans on Disability Hits Another Record; 3x Population of Chicago

The OP is from CNS, a trash rightwing websit on par with The World Weekly News reports about Batboy.

It's false.

California has over 500 million with almost 200 million of it being mental, how odd, isn't that a liberal state? is it coincidence?

ICDI Total Number Of People With Disabilities Receiving SSDI By Diagnosic Group (State)

Actually the numbers for total SSDI benficiaries for 2011 is 748,000 which equals 3.1% of the population (working aged individuals 18-64) which is below the national average.

It would also based on the chart be 200,000 individuals individuals with a mental disorder which out of a little over 24 million working aged individuals is about .83% of the total working population. Less than a percent.

It has nothing to do with Liberal/Conservative states and everything to do with blue collar jobs vs white collar jobs.

If someone in W Virginia has worked in a coal mine since the age of 18 his body is broken down by 50. Social Security doesn't start until the age of (65?) so they are in trouble.

As more and more boomers retire they are getting put in that zone...if they worked office jobs they are fine...if they did backbreaking work for the majority of their lives their body may run out before SS retirement age hits.

The problem is a little more complicated than people just one day got lazy and jumped on social security.

All of my stats are from Annual Statistical Report on the Social Security Disability Insurance Program, 2011

I like how liberals like to use percentages when they choose to live in hordes in places like California and New York. Fact is liberal states have more people taking advantage of the system which in turn is more money shelled out by sheer volume.

The point is that they aren't really disabled.

Technically, I qualify for disability, and there is nothing wrong with me.

The point is the rules are bad then not those that just use the rules for their advantage.

You keep trying to turn this into a liberal vs conservative thing instead of focusing on the reason why benefits are rising.

If you can see why percentages are used to compare 2 persons out of 100 to 1 person out of 10 I'm not sure what to say.

Volume = dollars= fraudulent spending

If you have a city of 1,000....100,000....and 1,000,000 which do you think will have more individuals with a disability? Is it fradulent that you would expect more persons with a disibility out of 1 million compared to 1,000?

It paints a clear picture when liberal run states are taking advantage of a broken system

How so? If 4 out of 100 individuals in Texas are disabled, 4 out of 100 individuals in Alaska, 4 out of 100 individuals in Oklahoma, and 4 out of 100 individuals in California how is California anything other than normal in this aspect?

You are stuck on percentages. 500 + million in California alone. V-o-l-u-m-e, VOLUME, VOLUME

Because you making comparisons between states with different populations! Therefore you use %'s to make a valid comparison. If you're trying to make a case that California has higher rates of fraud in disability claims because they have higher numbers of disability claims you're just wrong. It's just mathamatically incorrect to make that claim. You're basically saying that everyone in the state of Alaska was in disability due to the fact they have a much smaller population and would ultimately have a lower number of total people on disability than California that the fraud exists in California not Alaska. That would just be incorrect.

Not when you are dealing with 1/2 million people, it becomes staggering. But keep operating from the liberal playbook, you can't change your programming this late in the game

(CNSNews.com) - The number of American workers collecting federal disability payments climbed to yet another record of 8,853,614 in March, up from 8,840,427 in February, according to newly released data from the Social Security Administration.

That means there are more than 3 times as many Americans taking disability payments as there are people living in the city of Chicago, which according to the Census Bureau has a population of 2,707,120.

This is an unintended consequence of the Clinton/Gingrich welfare reform. States have to pay more welfare, but disability is a federal program. So states hire private companies to comb through the welfare rolls to see who they can get on disability instead of welfare, which brings their cost down.

I have know more people on disability today than I did 5 years ago, almost 4 times more. People are tired of the fight it takes to get by and are giving up.

...

And?

you don't find that excessive?

...If that many people qualify as disabled? No?

Do you have any evidence that shows large numbers of people on disability don't deserve to be on it?

Where would one find that? I have personally turned in 6 people that I knew, they only nabbed 1 and the other 5 continue to golf, fish, and motorcycle ride.

Where would one find that?

Do you have some sort of study or the like that shows such evidence?

Otherwise, I can't really get bothered over the number of people filing for disability on the basis you find the number to be large.

So you don't have any evidence that the people currently on disability aren't actually in need of it?

It's just the number of people on it that is so egregious to you?

I can't believe you can sit there and say all on disability are without fraud? You are laughable and a waste of time and part of the problem this country faces

I can't believe you can sit there and say all on disability are without fraud?

...When did I say that?

Are you honestly going to start making things up and attributing them to me?

I asked you to show me large numbers of people on disability don't qualify to be on it, at no point did I imply there is no fraud.

Really, when one doesn't have an argument outside his outrage at imagined faceless masses leeching off the system, one should at least find evidence that such feelings are based in reality.

You are laughable

Oh, the irony.

and a waste of time

This reminds me of an interaction between a pot and a kettle.

and part of the problem this country faces

Three for three. Impressive. Most people don't show themselves to be this devoted to this sort of ridiculousness, you exceed all expectations sir.
