Wussification of America

Yeah, wee have to toughen those kids up by convincing them that they're losers.

O conservatives and their pathologies.

You don't convince them that they are losers. You use honesty with them. When they are doing a great job, tell them. When they are ****ing up, don't condone it. It's a very simple concept. Teach them to live within reality.

Which of course has nothing to do with the quote.

Here's a concept: be nice to kids. They don't need to compete until they grow up. And if you're a coach, don't kick your players and insult them using sexual slurs. It's stupid and rude and coarse.

Only conservatives call basic decency "wussification".

Yes, because it's really important to teach 8 years old that they don't measure up and need to compete harder and harder and harder. I mean, how else can we beat those Chinese?

The HUGE difference is that you don't have to physically manhandle them or use racial and homophobic slurs to teach them. A "real man" does not need to use force or slurs to teach a valuable lesson. He leads by example.

ahhhh! the "good ol'e days" when "men" were "men" and boys would be boys.
A conservatives wet dream.

How can you take offense at what he said? It happened to him.How do you think things should be?

I agree with Bolling's point yesterday about Americans becoming wussies and political correctness being a major source.

There's the sense of entitlement since we don't let kid's experience failure nowadays. That includes things from not letting kids fail at school when their results are insufficient to handing out participation trophies. Some schools are even banning sporting activities to prevent anyone from feeling like a loser.

We surrender to just about any complaint, rather that seeing if any of the responsibility falls on the complainant. For example, schools are removing a cross or picture of Jesus if one or two people complain, even if a hundred want it there. Someone needs to speak up and tell them to ignore it if they don't like it.

You might say "the older generation always says the younger is worse." However, the upward trends for the numbers in divorce, kids born out of wedlock, government handouts, obesity, average age people live with parents until, etc. speak for themselves.

What will it take to get society to acknowledge these mistakes and fix them? Feel free to add more.

How many of us grew up playing dodge ball? Hell that was a regular thing, now you can ask a kid about it and they have no idea what that is. The NFL? Helmet to Helmet hits, I agree, with this column as many kids and adults of today could not have survived 30-40 years ago.

Nonsense, kids compete naturally. If you had been involved any young children's sports you'd know that most of them don't keep score these days by policy - but the kids always do regardless of the lesson the adults are trying to teach.

No one is suggesting abuse or ****ty treatment - that's YOUR strawman built to suit your need to blast your political opponents. Not to mention hilarious considering you're heaping abuse on those you perceive are competing with you. :lamo

Frankly, you aren't very good at putting words in the mouths of others.

Hell, just watch a toddler grab a toy from the hands of his peer. He does it because he is competitive, and he wants what he believes is rightfully his. It's hardwired into us.

Your nasty tone in your reply.

Dont be silly, you can not effectively indicate a "tone" via web communications. This is why all forms of internet communications are difficult to convey the proper message. In this case, you are incorrectly reading into what i said.

(in this message, im yelling at you. Could you detect that?) :2wave:

Spoken like one of the younger generation that has forgotten the art of written communication. Back in the caveman days when we communicated over distance with these things we called "letters" we had developed the skills to convey tone quite nicely.

do some research on communication and conveying emotions in the written format and education yourself.

here's a nice read for you: Emotional persistence in online chatting communities : Scientific Reports : Nature Publishing Group

I think most children who grew in a single parent household would disagree with that. I believe the opposite - kids who grow up in a mother-only household tend to have to fend for themselves sooner than most.
Yep. I grew up with a single mother for most of my life. I had to do things for myself much earlier than most of the people I knew who grew up in two parent households. The bottom line is that one parent can't do as much as two parents so the kids have to do things for themselves that, in a two parent household, they might not. I was doing laundry, learning how to cook, ironing my clothes and doing other things way before many of my friends. Don't get me wrong, my mom did a hell of a lot for me and I was what some would consider spoiled in certain ways, but I still had to do a lot of things earlier on my own specifically because one parent was doing the job of two.

Getting fired over acting like an asshole to a bunch of kids is not a political issue, however Fox News would like to turn it into one because their viewers tune in everyday to find out what the next thing they need to be angry about is. Fox News is a business build on making issues for people to argue and get pissed off about.

The right constantly whines about PC yet complains bitterly about speech that is offensive to Christians. Hypocrits.
I know. It's such a farce. The same people who pontificate about "political correctness" and ideas like "words only have power if you give it to them" are the ones who freak out when Christianity is criticized, who argue fervently that the word "marriage" is untouchable and so on. This whole "political correctness" nonsense is nothing more than attempt to shout down dissent.

Agreed. When I heard the story, the idea that this would be a political issue didn't even cross my mind. It's amazing what some people will do to encourage divisiveness where none had to exist.

Important to remember that what happens to you in life or your circumstances are not as important as how you feel about and react to those events and circumstances. The all important interpretation and styles of reaction are where women are enormously different from men. That is why fathers are absolutely necessary and why we are becoming a nation of wussies.
Oh for ****'s sake. What happens to you in life and your circumstances greatly influence "how you feel about and react to" events and circumstances. So yes, the things that happen to you in life and the circumstances you are dealt are just as if not more important than how one reacts to them.

I am honestly so sick of this uneducated argument that comes almost exclusively from conservatives. It's as if you guys think people's choices come out of nowhere - completely untouched by their experiences and circumstances.

Call them '****ing fairies' and '****ing faggots' and throw basketballs at them. Oh, and throw in a kick or two. That really teaches them to live within reality. I shouldn't be surprised by any of this. Bullies and thugs have their active defenders on this forum every time the subject comes up. Hell, we have one guy posting that integration was the beginning of our downfall as a nation and not one single conservative called him on it. Nothing surprises me.

You have to remember that this is a poster who thinks all of our problems as a nation began when we decided to end racial segregation. Honest.

You never played any sports, did you?

History will show that America was destroyed by integration, immigration, feminization and homosexualization.
Behold, revisionist History in the making!

True. I usually don't respond to him, but the idea he expressed in shared by so many conservatives that I felt it was appropriate.
