California Chick-Fil-A Offers Free Meals To Gay Marriage Supporters

A California Chick-fil-A did something shocking for same-sex marriage supporters this week: Supported them.

Corey Braun, the franchisee of the Chick-fil-A in the Victoria Gateway Center in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., provided dozens of free meal coupons to a group of same-sex marriage advocates demonstrating Monday at an intersection near the restaurant, PinkNews notes.
The move came months after Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy revealed his anti-gay stance in a July interview, saying he is "guilty as charged" when it comes to his franchise's "support of the traditional family."
"There were a lot of things said over the past year," Braun told the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin. "I wanted to show that Chick-fil-A doesn't discriminate against anybody. We serve everyone. We're happy to serve the community and this was an opportunity to have this group come in and show them our hospitality regardless of their beliefs, sexual orientation, or whatever. Chick-fil-A has never been about hate"
Back on Aug. 1, hundreds flocked to the Rancho Cucamonga restaurant on "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day" in defense of Cathy and his anti-gay marriage comments. But on Monday, things were different, and same-sex couples and same-sex marriage backers were surprised at Braun's act.
"[W]hen people are open and apologetic and accepting, it's touching to us," Eden Anderson, a board member with LGBT rights group Equality Inland Empire, told the Daily Bulletin. "It feels like acceptance and we just want to be accepted and engaged in society, so when it's confirmed, I think the overall reaction was, yes, certainly that Chick-fil-A in Rancho Cucamonga is welcoming to us."
Meanwhile, same-sex marriage advocates Wednesday posted signs in defense of equality on the front of a Chick-fil-A in San Antonio, Texas, according to Houston station KHOU. The signs were scrawled with messages like "Government can not dictate love," "Support love note hate" and "Your son is gay and everything will be okay."
The demonstrations come as the Supreme Court reviews the constitutionality of the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California's Proposition 8. DOMA defines marriage as a legal union between a man and a woman; Prop. 8 is a same-sex marriage ban passed in California in 2008.
In contrast to Chick-fil-A, other major companies have proudly come out in support of same-sex marriage. Budweiser, Expedia, Martha Stewart Living and HBO each designed their own versions of the red equality sign this week in a public display of unity.

Even though you're obviously a very naive, nanny state Liberal, do you have any idea how "For Profit" businesses operate?

sure i do, and i know how one doesnt lose their hate or disregard their religion's message over night.

I wonder how Cathy feels about promoting homosexuality in his business.

Editing a post to try to insult is so 3rd grade.

At least the second time in a 24-hour period; a thread with an OP that seems almost specifically designed to demonstrate the point that I often make, about how those who most loudly proclaim their opposition to bigotry usually turn out to be the worst bigots of all.

I thought your idea was suspect once upon a time.... i'm coming around to it though....primarily because I can't ignore the evidence.

I will welcome you to Republicanism with open arms. See, Republicans are not against gay-marriage, we question why government recognizes marriage in the first place! And see what happens? An organization that donates directly to the FRC can have franchisee's that support gay-marriage without punishment to said franchisee. Now, the government would punish Chick-Fil-A for not complying with their new compliance laws... but you can't truly have a free society if the government is oppressing people, something governments have been known for.

Repubs not against gay marriage?? LMFAO. really? So, before the big push for equal rights, the Republicans were making noise to keep the gov out of marriage? LOL, i dont think so. A good majority of religious people are republicans/libertarians. They are the bigots.

Let me entertain you a bit here: GOP chairman urges tolerance for views on gay marriage

The homophobic comments were made by the CEO of Chick-Fil-A. This action was made by a franchisee who is not the CEO of Chick-Fil-A

"Espouse Christian Values" and "Participate in Group Prayers"

No, the standards do not require that, and even if they did, neither of those are the equivalent of promoting homophobia

It's starting to look as if you believe that a christian must be anti-gay and anti-SSM, which is a bigoted belief.

I would point out the irony of this statement, but I doubt you'd get it.

Also, when I read the thread title my first thought was, "I don't know why they bother. Those close-minded people who have already pegged them as being a certain way will never give them a chance."

Point proven.

Did i hurt your feelings?

Not at all

I just find it rather amusing. This is a point I've been making repeatedly, for quite a long time, and just within the past day, yours is the second thread that almost seems custom made to prove my point. If I were inclined to create a sock-puppet account, and post a thread based on a Poe's Law depiction of a liberal bigot trying to project his bigotry on others, your OP in this thread is pretty close to what I would come up with.

I look at it as a very nice gesture by a for-profit company serving the community.

The problem was never that christian chicken place was was kicking gays out, or that they would not serve them. They were always willing to take their money, and i do not recall ever hearing they refused a sale to gays. The problem was that the head of their company donated to hate groups. before anyone gets there, he is perfectly entitled to spend his money on promoting whatever hate group he wants to. I don't even blame him for trying to get some money from gays to donate to his hate group. Promotional giveaways have an effect of getting customers to come into your store. I might be a little miffed if i were one of his devout christian chicken supporters, and his store was out there giving free food to the people I was buying his crappy chicken to hate on, but that is not me. Seriously, how many chistian side hug supporters showed up to buy chicken and help his company out and now he is giving free food to their opponents? The haters would have probably wanted some free chicken byproducts too. Yes, I do recognize this is also probably some franchise owner trying to promote their business in an area that has a lot of gay marriage supporters, and it is not a christian chicken thing. Still, I would imagine this is going to tick off the haters much more than it pleases the gays.

Hopw dare they not tolerate hate speech against them and think it is the greatest thing in the world. that is so intollerant of them. I think they will be able to live with that.

You know, there are some things in this world it is OK to hate. You know, like people attacking you over something that doesn't effect them and trying to take away your love and happiness when it doesn't do a thing to them. That is one of those things you can feel free to dislike in this world, and the attempt to make it politically correct to hate on others is really a little pathetic. Get with the program and expect when you promote hatred of others to get hatred back.

Since when is opposing the homosexual life bigotry and HATRED. I personnally distance myself from them as I have never deliberatley chosen to associate with them because it is my right to do so. I also prefer the comapny of own my race. So now show me HATRED. (by the way, guess my gender, age and race so you can attach a lable to me as well).

There's some brain-cell-twisting going on when people... usually far-left liberals... attempt to rationalize their hate of others by categorizing other's differing opinions as hate while still trying to be politically correct and using blanket emotional blackmail.

yeah, that is still a fail argument. You can change the words all you want, but it is still Ok to fight against intolerance and bigotry. That really is just sad when you are trying to pull on people's heartstings and tell them they are evil because they don't allow you to hate on them without opposition. Did you really think that was a good argument? You cannot even follow your own rules, let me show you by taking your argument and turning it against you.

Look at you being a bigot towards those who you say are being bigots. you should be tolerant of them and accept their views because it is wrong to tell someone they are wrong.

If that is the best you have then you really need to take a break.

Yes, when you segregate yourself by race, and refuse to associate with homosexuals that pretty much makes you a bigot. That would be segregationalist and is one of the many philosophies of bigotry. I am sorry that you don't enjoy that particular word, and that you wish to use things that carry a less obvious description of your hatred, but your attempt to redefine words because you don't like them is complete fail. You are taking a prejudicial and bigoted stance and therefor would be prejudiced and bigoted by your own clear admission.

Crappy food that makes Americans fat from a fast food company. I'm not sure why anyone would want to eat there to begin with, even if they paid you $5 to do so, and I really don't understand how this is political.
