GOP Lawmaker Calls Hispanic Workers ‘Wetbacks’

All Americans called them wetbacks. The country had a program called Operation Wetback under Dwight Eisenhower and over a million of them were deported.

Got a link for that?

None. Now answer my question.
none. now, notice how you were wrong when you posted that wetback was not applicable to a race or ethnicity:
Except 'wetbacks' isn't a racial or ethnic slur. It's a term to describe illegal immigrants who get here via water.

I have many, the same ones you could find in less than one second on the most common search engine on the internet.

No charge.

I'm aware of where the term comes from. It's an ethnic slur delivered at Mexicans. Do we call the ones that cross the desert in Arizona "Drybacks?"

No, I wasn't wrong. If people started swimming here illegally from Europe, Africa, etc., they would be wetbacks as well. Cubans are also wetbacks. They come here illegally through the water.

Next time you come through this area, stop by we can go over to a bar I have been hanging out in for probably 30+ years and have a beer. I have known some of the people that will undoubtedly be there for 50+ years. I KNOW these people. Without exception, unless someone is just passing though, every single one of them vote republican. Every single one of them are now and have always been racist. It is not rare to, no actually is it very common, when Obama comes on Fox news which will be on at least one TV behind the bar, to hear someone shout out the N word and say something mindless about communist or something. It just is and it does effect my outlook of the entire party. I am aware it might just be these republicans in my area, and the in the rest of the country the republicans might be truly post racist that it is no longer a concern. I know it is possible. Then one of you calls someone a wetback. It is hard for me not to believe...
Show me my argument that the Reps are the pro-black party.

Hint: I said no such thing.

You mean the dixiecrats who stayed in the party? Seriously, i don't have time to teach a person like you the nuances of history of that time. It is obvious that an ignorant view of history supports your poor argument, and i cannot expect you to back off of your misrepresentation of the realities of the shift in the parties that occurred around that time period. But you feel free to use that poor argument. I am pretty sure regular people know that the republicans would never elect a black president, and the democrats did. That would be the end of the argument that the republicans are the anti-racism party.

That's laughable. I lived that history and have studied it. My father was Sgt At Arms for the California State Legislature and a close friend of the original Governor Brown. As a kid I spent time with democratic party leaders in our home. I heard the racial jokes they told, heard my father telling them constantly those had no place in our house.

"One of you calls someone a wetback." One of who? I'm not a Republican.

Don't be silly enough to think the Democrat leaders are any different, if not worse. They just do a better job of herding the cattle.

and cubans are hispanic
again confirming this term applies exclusively toward members of the hispanic community, a particular ethnicity. which then means your assertion was quite ... what's the term ... wrong

No, it just happens that Hispanics are the only ones realistically abled to get here illegally via water. If others were able to and did so, they would be called wetbacks as well.

Yup really. He never switched to the GOP and only went third party because of the hubbub after his failed party coup against JFK in the 64 nomination cycle. After the assassination his attempt to take party control was shelved. Finding no home with the GOP or the dems he tried third party in 68.
which means your statement was incorrect; here it is to see for yourself (my emphasis added for easier reading):
Or look into Robert Byrd or George Wallace for examples of how they never left the dems in the first place.
notice that for wallace to have run as a third party presidential candidate he HAD to have left the demo party

I didn't claim that Hispanics voted for Bush because he can speak Spanish. I said that all you have to do is be able to speak Spanish and kiss their ass a little bit, and you'll get the Hispanic vote.

So I'm still waiting for the proof that my opinion is "ignorant" and that your opinion is the cold-hard fact.

And I'm waiting for you to prove that all a politician has to do is spak spanish and kiss their ass a little

I agree, the term is racist and the time for it's common usage has long passed. The rare usage now should be looked at in context. As I stated before, shakey ground for a politician to whom even the most innocent of speech can be a millstone around the neck later on.

Oh, gotcha. Wasn't wrong though. Take a look at the assertion I was rebutting. It was that the dems left their party to goto the GOP.

If the phrase "Kiss their ass a little" includes stealing from others and giving to them, then it's pretty common knowledge 'gha.

When are we going to do something about that avatar?

so, i should ignore what you posted?
