NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam[W: 143]

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

Which is why none of this knee-jerk push for current new laws is right.

If by right you mean right wing you are KEYrect Sir.

If you mean correct then we have to disagree. :peace

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

Tererun, one does not need to be an NRA member to attend most NRA classes. The Basic Pistol classes I taught were open to anyone over 18 years old. It's an 8 hour class with generally less than half the class being range work. It's a basic safety and operation class, nothing more.

Look, Adams mother clearly felt guns were important. Everything I have heard about her says she would have supported the NRA and it's causes. Adam would have been pitched NRA membership at the course and even at home. Do you really think they weren't members of the NRA? It is extremely likely that they were members and did support the NRA as both of them would have enjoyed the use of guns. I am not trying to claim that the membership was bad, just that they would have been extremely likely to have been members of the NRA. There is a tiny possibility that for some reason they did not give support to the US's biggest pro-gun organization, but it would have fit her views perfectly. About the best I could see with Adam was he was too autistic to be social enough to have joined the group, but even that stretches thin when you realize he was alre4ady pulled out of his shell enough to participate in some aspect.

I will say it again for the cheap seats. I don't think his membership in the NRA is a problem, nor am I bothered at all the NRA allowed him to be a member. hell, i would even agree that the media's inclusion of that fact is redundant and meant to demonize the NRA for a inconsequential reason. There were probably far more interesting things found there that would have been better to mention than something we already knew he did. We know he went shooting at legitimate ranges. We know he received training in using his weapon. I am pretty sure anyone with a brain could figure out the NRA was somehow associated with that activity given their participation in the gun community and the support they have from the gun community. I don't even really blame the NRA for trying to deny something we all pretty much know was the case. Still there is no reasonable reason for them to have ever denied adam or his mother membership. I don't even think it is terribly reasonable to think that the two of them would not have sought membership in the NRA given their affinity for guns.

So you basically claim that the NRA is responsible and you are making assumptions that somehow membership and a pamphlet are the fault for the shooting.

I'll say again, the person at fault for the shooting was the shooter. You MAY be able to make a claim against the mother as well, I don't know I'm not a lawyer. But connecting this to the NRA is still a silly argument no matter how you look at it.

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

The only way for the NRA to have known would be to invade the people's privacy. Is that REALLY the power you want for the NRA? I don't think so.

It's quite clear that the NRA is NOT to blame for this, the person doing the shooting is.

but when the goal is to blame the NRA and not the shooter what do you expect?

the anti NRA types aren't about public safety-they are about getting rid of groups and voters who vote against their interests

so what is the purpose of your silly rant? Many of the people who have engaged in mass shootings have no training other than VIDEO GAMES. The guy on the texas tower was a marine.

the fact is-the NRA votes for candidates you don't like and thus you whine about the NRA

This is one of those things that I cannot stand from the far-left. A gun is a tool. If the NRA was handing out pamphlets that show people getting drunk, high, metnally unstable and firing weapons, MAYBE they would have a case. But the NRA is not about that, they are about responsible gun use.

and that was their main focus until the Democratic party decided to attack gun rights in the 1960s as a way of defending against Nixon and other GOPs "Southern Strategy" that claimed the dems were soft on mainly black street crime

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

What do you expect the NRA to do? They were founded to increase marksmanship for the masses. Create a better federal army. It is a private organization. Do you plan to legislate how they should practice? Background checks for safety courses?

They were founded to promote civilian marksmanship- 'for the masses' seems quite the commie term- they have of late devoted far more resources to inside the beltway politics.... that is a shame.

Why do the right wingers always fall back to 'legislate' as the only other solution?

The school I worked for was under no mandate to back round check it's students. It just seems, and here is a word the Right loves to throw around, it just seems the RESPONSIBLE thing to do. It isn't fire safety, or a cooking class, it is a group of people bringing firearms onto a range to attend a SHOOTING course. downplay it all you want, it still is teaching unchecked people how to shoot, even if at an extremely low skill level.

But again the issue i see isn't some cattle call class teaching Lanza to basics, it doesn't take much of an instructor to do that, it is the NRA not keeping good records or worse, turning a blind eye to their records on who they have had contact with. Sounds more like lawyer CYOA document shredding so the the talking heads can attempt to deny.

what silly idiocy. The NRA has to keep records for a CCW permit class so the sheriff can check the training records. Typical leftwing nonsense-trying to divert blame for where it belongs-on the turd who did the shooting

Typical lawyer deflection. In Oklahoma CCW permit training records are required, not voluntary. A whole different can of worms is CCW, we are talking about cattle call photo- op 'classes' not keeping records of who they teach. Not having any sort of backround check, any felon can show up with a handgun and receive training. Seems the NRA has more concern about lobbyists than simple backround checks in more places than gunshows...

The issue isn't just the turd who did the shooting, but the turds who tried to deny thrice before the **** crowed. Well in this case until the evidence was made public. :peace

1) It isn't communist. Lol. It is actually a freedom organization...to help reinforce the best application of the 2nd amendment.

2) Sure. I can agree...but it is also a shame that they have had to fight a militantly anti gun lobby too isn't it? Regulation upon regulations aimed at everything from pistols, shotguns, and rifles. You can't deny that their has been a systematic attack on every type of firearm owned by the public except maybe the double and single barrel shotguns.

I'm not a fan of all their actions or statements, "but one must create ambition to counter act ambition."

3) Because legislation is about the only "solution" the left seems to think works and obviously we are against MORE broken legislation.

4) It is assumed that if you own the firearm already...you are legal? So it is wrong to assume that people are innocent until proven guilty? You don't see ramifications for forcing background checks on people exercising a constitutional right? I understand "responsibility" just fine, but I am leery of any group that wants to track my ownership of firearms or training with them. That would be irresponsible of a pro gun lobbyist group. Wouldn't you say?

5) Why should they keep track of who they are dealing with? They aren't teaching bomb making. They are teaching nothing that you couldn't pick up in a library or magazine section of a book store. You still have to buy a gun to practice what they do...and you have to do it legally. No "background check" policy would change anything.

Ps

I had to use numbers to keep order. I'm on my cell. I'm not doing the jerkish for 1 and 2 type thing.

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

Well, you have the right to your opinion, but if you aren't disturbed by the mass murderer of two dozen children honing his skills with NRA material, I can't imagine what would disturb you. Personally I find this for profit organization sickening.

Did you actually believe that anyone would come in here and agree with this unsubstantiated tripe you posted? Anyone can download an Army field manual and learn something about shooting. Will you blame the Army then? You think the NRA is the only org that publishes info on shooting?

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

Did I say the NRA should be invading the privacy of their prospective members? no, I did not. What I did say is that they should have been at the front of the issue regarding letting the clearly mentally unstable people like Adam anywhere near a gun. It is a safety issue. you don't point your gun at people unless you are planning on shooting them, and you don't let the crazy kid play with one. The NRA should be the leader in expressing basic safety. I don't really care if they want to take money from the crazies to further their cause, nor do I expect them to refuse it, or investigate their members. Your membership card to the NRA is not going to kill anyone, so I don't care if the looniest person has one.

They are the leader in gun safety, and the rest of what you wrote is a contradiction.

Your rants are moronic.

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

Guilt by association is as retarded when trying to pin it on the NRA as it is on the kid's Call of Duty fascination.

No causal relationship, HoJ and the other anti-2A's are just jumping on another opportunity to push their gun grabbing agenda since dancing on the graves of children no longer works. Don't worry "countrymen," statistically speaking we're due for another tragedy you can never let go to waste.

Oh the NRA doesn't use 'for the masses' they promote civilian marksmanship. For the masses is commie.

The NRA 'fights' the anti 'gun' crowd even when the anti 'gun' crowd isn't hitting a lick. Back in the first term when there was no serious push on new restrictions the NRA kept a steady give us money drumbeat up because Obama MIGHT do something...

Ahhh the old 'they always' defense to create a bogus point to argue against... 'they' ALWAYS want new laws... Rather than being reasonable....got it!

Many years ago a rather angry man got nose to nose with me and said... ASSuming makes an ass out of you and me...you trying to make me an ass trainee??!! An odd assumption to make after so many folks declare laws only keep 'guns' out of the hands of law abiding citizens, the bad guys will ignore the laws...

You can be paranoid, but if you are that paranoid get private no certificate training, This is about cattle call 'classes' that issue certificates. I understand some thinking the basics of 'gun' handling can be book learned- if so then stay with that and avoid any paper trail, but when NRA Certified Instructors sign fancy pieces of paper in the name of the NRA a record would be prudent. When teaching 'the masses' how to use firearms the prudent do due diligence.

The dogma slaves just ASS-u-me and move on...

Re: NRA Certificate and “Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting” Found in Adam Lanza’

tererun, I'm no longer a NRA member myself. They simply do not have the same viewpoint on enough issues for me to financially support them. That's not an uncommon mentality in the gun owning community. I don't know the Lanza's but to suggest they were NRA members without any supporting evidence is seriously jumping the gun. The "Survivalist" types are the ones most likely to be non-NRA gun owners as they consider ANY legislation too much.

1) did you skip political theory the day they taught communism? We live in America and pushing the use of a right is far from a "communist" motive. Are you just trying to paint them as communist? Because that is a glaring misunderstanding of what communism actually is. Communism doesn't own the trademark rights to the phrase, "for the masses," because...they don't believe in them. For the "masses" has been a phrase existent long before the invention and rise of communism. Talk to Plato, Machiavelli, Locke, Robespierre, and Burke. I'm sure you will find that they also used the phrase, and trying to nail something down as "communist" or "fascist" is a joke within American politics...because well...they have a concrete definition and existence in this world...and not within a right Wing organization. All of this comes from a Republican btw. You will never see me call a democrat a communist or fascist. I know what those words mean.

2) So you are saying the lobbyists pushing to fight future action is a bad idea for an organization that represents, for better or worse, the American gun owners and their rights? And now you are claiming that their claims that we were standing on the edge of the anti-gun cliff were false? All it took was but 1 incident and we were pushed ever so gingerly into the pit yet again. It seems that the concept of "ambition created to counter act ambition," went over your head. They pushed against the anti gun crowd who just waited for a tragedy to strike at our rights. If you don't see the logic behind being ready for the inevitable anti gun pushes...you are not paying attention.

3) So. Prove me wrong? What do you see from the anti- gun crowd? More legislation being pushed. Executive orders too. Government steps to void the 2nd or to limit it so that only the very rich can afford it.

4) What? Try English. Are you against the policy of innocent until proven guilty? Are you saying you should be required to prove that you are a legal gun owner any time you do anything firearms related...including learning proper safety.

5) What in the hell does keeping a record have to do with learning safety with a firearm? Given the number of accidents vs mass shootings only 1 person in this conversation seems to be suffering from paranoia. And. As stated. NRA being against record keeping is a foundation of one of their policy of being against registries. Good on them for not keeping records on than membership and receipts for safety classes. On top of this. What relevance does record keeping have for the NRA?

6) The only dogma I have seen has been the standard hate against the NRA.

what is moronic is not knowing that some of the deadliest active shooters had no firearms experience but had extensive video game experience which used electronic guns

Heath High School shooting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Attorney General John Ashcroft claimed Carneal's proficient marksmanship was due to practice in violent video games.[13]

you need to understand that I don't post stuff unless i have a factual basis. and again you get schooled

So since some mass murderers don't use NRA shooting tips, it's wonderful that NRA provides the service to other mass murderers.
