RNC: Voters see GOP as ‘scary’ and ‘out of touch'

The religious rightwing successfully raided the Republican Party in the 80s past stiff opposition by party officials.

The Republican Party needs to get OFF of social issues. Those completely contradict:
1. Limited role of the federal government and
2. Limited power of government
3. Laws are a state issue, not federal issue

which were the traditional stances of the Republican Party.

You'll need to go with specifics. The GOP has been giving lip service to "less government!" for decades now, and what have they actually done on the subject? Hell one of their candidates couldn't even remember which government agency he supposedly wanted to get rid of.

So what should they put on the platform?

I was about to respond to this comment and found you put the words right into my mouth. They have repackaged what they've been selling for quite some time now. Their past due date has expired. They are the stupid party. When your party needs an autopsy, things are not looking good.

both parties need a major enema
and things aren't looking so good ... for the people
the parties, with their established duopolistic advantage, are doing alright. where else is a voter going to go?

In that instant they have just lost 30% of their voting block.

You have hit the nail on the head. For fear of upsetting this 30%, they turn their backs on the 40% that they could have. Moreover, where is this 30% going to go? The majority will still vote Republican.

The fundamental problem is that the Republican / Conservative base isn't large enough to win a national election (and many swing state elections). They need a new base. They have to have the guts to risk the old for want of the new. If they do not have those kind of guts, they are not leaders and deserve to be remanded to political obscurity, at least as it relates to national elections.

The religious right did not invade the GOP. The GOP begged them to join forces with them

That's fine. I'm not a Republican, and Conservatives such as myself don't see elections as the ultimate form of change in society anyway.

Please don't insult conservatives. You are an authoritarian, why now are you ashamed to admit it?

The Republican National Committee concedes in a sprawling report Monday that the GOP is seen as the party of “stuffy old men” and needs to change its ways.

RNC Chairman Reince Priebus has dubbed the report an “autopsy” of the party’s 2012 failures and a roadmap forward. Priebus is scheduled to unveil the 98-page report at a news conference Monday morning at The National Press Club.
“There’s no one reason we lost,” Priebus plans to say, according to prepared remarks. “Our message was weak; our ground game was insufficient; we weren’t inclusive; we were behind in both data and digital; our primary and debate process needed improvement. … So, there’s no one solution: There’s a long list of them.”

“Asked to describe Republicans, they said that the Party is ‘scary,’ ‘narrow minded,’ and ‘out of touch’ and that we were a Party of ‘stuffy old men,’” it states.

What's scary about Republicans mandating that the government force women to have giant probes stuck in their privates against their will and against their doctor's wishes?

My long search to find intelligent life within the Republican party is finally bearing fruit. Recognition of the problem is the first step towards recovery.

Authoritarianism is the Ultimate Form of Conservatism. I have no problem stating that I'm an Authoritarian. I have a major issue with calling most people Conservatives. They're Centrists at best.

That 30% are going to go away, period. If they want that 40% then they can simply become a shadow image of the Democratic Party while the 30% they choose to ignore sits and bides its time for REAL Change.

We don't need elections, we have guns.

When you are to the very far right, everyone looks left to you. I have a problem with calling Authoritarians Americans. They are dictator sympathizers at best.

Whereas I have a major issue with calling any Socialist or Liberal anything positive or polite. I honestly believe that anyone willing to give their money to help someone who is not an immediate family member or close friend needs to have a mental health examination to determine their competency.

Well it's a good thing your authoritarian views are irrelevent and worthless here in America. Always nice to see an authoritiarian hiding in a country that has freedoms they hate.

No more irrelevant or worthless than this country is becoming because of those freedoms.

far right? The guy is an island unto his own.

Yet, here you are time after time and never leave. Look, here's the funny part. You've complained that you don't want to move to other "authoritarian" countries because they don't allow you to have guns. That's a FREEDOM here, yet you hate freedom. Can't make this **** up folks.

The failure of authoritarianism is that an authoritarian is only happy if THEY are running things and not other authoritarians.

I am only still here because I cannot find another place to go. It's much less about the firearms than it is about the Religion in most of the places I could potentially go. Honestly, I'd guess in the next few years the place I'm going to end up going is into the ground, either by the hand of the Government or by my own hand.

I don't hate Freedom. I just don't believe it's a RIGHT. I believe it's proper place is as a PRIVILEGE for those who have proven they can make proper decisions.

You are literally the right-wing equivalent of a Stalinist.

i'm not so sure
the GOP has long been fond of pronouncing its principles
where it has the problem is following them

Yep, and Rush Limbaugh was one of the first to stick his head even deeper in the sand... and we all know there are lots of "doo-doo heads" that will follow his leadership.
