Scott Walker acknowledged in an interview Friday that he’s open to a presidential bid. Walker insisted he was visiting Iowa in May only because he was invited by Gov. Terry Branstad. But when pressed about his White House ambitions, the Wisconsin Republican said: “Would I ever be [interested]? Possibly. I guess the only thing I’d say is I’m not ruling it out.” Perhaps even more notably, Walker wouldn’t commit to serving throughout a second four-year term. He said his focus is on substance, not longevity.

“For me, it’s really a measure of what I’ve accomplished and what more I could accomplish if I was in a different position,” Walker told POLITICO at CPAC, where he’ll speak Saturday. The governor noted that he ran for Milwaukee County executive during his state legislative term and then sought the governorship in the midst of his tenure as county executive. But Walker, 45, used the question about diversity to note that the Republican challenge isn’t merely that it’s a party dominated by white males. “It goes to old white guys” he said, adding: “I’m not an old white guy.”

So the criteria to be a republican contender is anything goes as long as you are not an old white guy. They never seem to get a clue. How about being a man of the people - no matter what color or age they are?

Whats the issue? The response is tailored right to the Democrat and progressive charge that the GOP is only for rich old white guys.

That's just inane babble, by any measure. Do you have any actual, intelligent objections to Scott Walker, or is he just another Republican to bash mindlessly and constantly?

Scott Walker has proven he is a man of the people.

Yeah, he's frequently cited as a "good guy" Republican by liberals. The overwhelming likelihood is that 66gardeners doesn't know a thing about him other than that he's a Republican.

yes, please run scott walker in 2016

I know he said he thinks he is eligible for POTUS because he is not an old white guy.

Walker would be another Romney.

And that is by all indications the grand total of what you know about him.

Walker would be another Romney.
Unlike Romney, Walker actually has a conservative record to run on. Well, more conservative than most. That he took on the unions and won on mulitple levels will make him very popular with conservatives. That his states economy has improved since is definitely something that he can run with. I don't know enough about the guy on social issues (he'll probably shoot himself in the foot with that) but I do know his fiscal record will be good.

Democrat and liberal Wisconsinites absolutely abhorr Scott Walker. Show me a liberal around here that thinks Scott Walker is a good guy.

I hope so. The only people hated more than republican congressmen are tea party governors.

RICH people. He broke the unions, has lowered wages accordingly, raised unemployment from cutting back on state employees and has yet to do anything to attract good paying jobs to Wisconsin.

Unemployment is down in Wisconsin since Walker took office. He gave local districts the tools they need to balance their budgets. State income tax has been lowered by an average of 2.2%. Property taxes have been frozen. He is working to eliminate public sector double-dipping; has expanded the school voucher system giving parents more choice. You are wrong.

Wisconsin Unemployed

The number of people unemployed in Wisconsin peaked in June 2009 at 287,166. There are now 84,992 fewer people unemployed in the state. Wisconsin job growth data is also available.

Computing Benefit Entitlement - Wisconsin Unemployment Insurance

BASE PERIOD:

The first four of the last five completed calendar quarters before the week you file an initial claim application for a new benefit year. The wages paid during this period of time are used to determine if you have enough wages to qualify for a claim and to calculate how much you can be paid. The following chart will help you to understand how we determine the calendar quarters in your base period. The four shaded quarters in each row are the base period quarters for a claim started in the far right quarter of the same row.

Example: A claim started in November 2007 has a base period that starts on July 1, 2006 and ends on June 30, 2007.

Example of a Claims Chart

If you do not have enough wages to qualify for a claim using the base period described above, an "alternate base period" will be used. The alternate base period will be the four most recently completed calendar quarters before the week you filed your initial claim application for a new benefit year.
LAG PERIOD:

The time between the end of your base period and the week you start your claim. We DO NOT use the wages paid during this time period to calculate your benefit entitlement. However, the wages paid during the lag period may be used in a future claim. In the prior example, the lag period would start on July 1, 2007, and would end on the Saturday before the week your claim was started.
COVERED AND EXCLUDED EMPLOYMENT:

Covered employment is work you perform for an employer who is subject to the unemployment insurance law. However, some work is "excluded" (not covered) even when performed for a covered employer. Only wages paid from covered employment can be used to qualify for unemployment benefits and to calculate how much you can be paid. (Excluded employment is one of the eligibility issues listed in Part 6 - Handbook for Claimants.)

False: The skills of the workforce somehow dropped sharply between 2007 and 2009. Numerous studies by Nobel laureates, highly regarded economics institutes, and two former chairs of presidential councils of economic advisers all conclude that a sudden dropoff in workers’ skills over two years is utterly implausible as an explanation for massive unemployment. In the words of economist Heidi Shierholz of the Economic Policy Institute, “It is not the right workers we are lacking, it is work.”
False: There is a vast pool of high-skilled jobs waiting to be filled. As Levine commented in the report, “Even if every unemployed person were perfectly matched to existing jobs, over 2/3 of all jobless would still be out of work.”
False: Employers are trying in vain to attract skilled workers. If a “skills shortage” truly existed, employers would raise wages to attract workers with the special skills they seek. Instead, wages have fallen in Wisconsin since 2000, including in occupations like welding, where there is a supposed shortage of workers, Levine pointed out.
False: Understaffed employers must make do with the skilled workers they have. A shortage of sought-after workers would lead employers to increase these workers’ hours. However, the report says, “average weekly hours worked in manufacturing have remained unchanged since 2000, while the average weekly overtime hours have actually declined by 12.8 percent since 2000.”
False: New high-skill jobs have been created. Overall, Wisconsin retains a jobs deficit of 243,000, based on job losses since the Great Recession plus new positions needed for entrants into the labor market, according to a study by the Center on Wisconsin Strategy. Though Scott Walker came into office in 2011 famously promising the creation of 250,000 jobs during his four-year term, Wisconsin has ranked 42nd in job creation out of the 50 states.
False: Workers with advanced degrees are more highly sought-after. A pervasive skills gap would raise the demand for workers with higher skills, measured in indicators like college degrees. Instead, the percentage of college-educated workers in jobs where they are obviously overqualified—as bartenders and retail clerks, for example—has risen sharply. “College graduates comprise 25% of retail salespersons and 21.6% of bartenders in the Milwaukee metro area—both jobs classified as requiring less than a high school diploma,” the report reads.
False: The American job market will increasingly demand higher-skilled workers. Forecasts of future workforce needs show not an increased demand for high education and skills, but for occupations that require a high school degree or less, according to the report: “Of the 25 jobs projected by the Wisconsin Dept. of Workforce Development to provide the largest number of job openings in the state between 2010-2020, 22 of them require a high school degree or less and almost all require short-term, on-the-job training.”

Illegal Aliens Taking U.S. Jobs (2011)

In 2011, Wisconsin had reported 71,000 jobs going to illegal immigrants.

When most jobs do not qualify the worker for unemployment, and when employers are not hiring American workers but quite possibly keeping wages lower with illegal immigrants, and lowering the basic wages of the middle class does not a glowing economy make Wisconsin.

Wisconsin's minimum wage is $7.25.

Wisconsin is one of 41 states where public employees earn higher average pay and benefits than private workers in the same state, a USA TODAY analysis finds. Still, the compensation of Wisconsin's government workers ranks below the national average for non-federal public employees and has increased only slightly since 2000.

As is the result in all tea party governor states, the economy has fallen further than in those democratic governor states. The worker has lost more in wages and benefits, as well.

Or its likely just a dig at a silly connotation commonly thrown out by political opponents. Pretty obvious but commons sense is lost on some.

Yeah, he's frequently cited as a "good guy" Republican by liberals. The overwhelming likelihood is that 66gardeners doesn't know a thing about him other than that he's a Republican.

Which liberals say that?

Yes, but which people? Public school teachers are people. Firemen are people.

The only change made to firefighters and LEO's was that they are no longer able to bargain over their healthcare benefits. In fact, two major firefighter unions endorsed him in his recall election. Reason is coming back into some of the unions -- it's about time.

Run Scottie, run! I have a bit more faith in candidates for POTUS who have been governors than I do the ones who came from the senate.

Scott Walker has proven he is a man of the people.

Was that proven when he took the "bargaining" out of collective bargaining?
