A balanced budget is a pipe dream: great in a theoretical sense, but too impractical to implement and would cost too much.

Dogmatic principles don't help one iota if you do not have the ability to think practically.

Obama hasn't borrowed or spent anything. Congress controls the money, they're the ones doing the borrow and spend thing

Technically true, yet it is all subject to veto. Should we just ignore those Obama promises to cut the deficit in half, or that Obama will go "line by line" through the budget and remove waste and duplication? Our most transparent administration sure seems to have lots of backroom deals.

The real question should be why we need to spend half our budget on defense when no one is even threatening us.
It does not matter how much we spend or on what, it only matters how much we spend that we have to borrow. Growing budget deficits are destroying long-term GDP growth whether we spend the borrowed money on a tank or an oxygen tank or a fish tank.

here's how I look at politicians, half of what they say is outright lies, the other half is just vote getting gimmicks. Action's are what count.
Why would he veto what he wants. He asked for it, Congress gave it to him. They could have just as easily said no.

How does the bolded above square with your assertion below?

"Obama hasn't borrowed or spent anything. Congress controls the money, they're the ones doing the borrow and spend thing."

If Obama is getting what he wants then that is the "Obama economy" - huge annual federal deficits.

Not a pipe dream, just not easy. Going in the wrong direction for decades can not be fixed by stepping on the gas. It took me 5 1/2 years to get out of debt, more than the individual tax burden on each of us. And I did it without printing any money. There is a big difference between "can't" and "won't", a difference that is defined by responsibility and discipline, neither of which our government has a clue about. I have no respect for the willfully weak and irresponsible.

Oh look, more of the same from Republicans. Make life harder for the poor, and don't you dare tax the rich. Americans don't want a country that is split so drastically between rich and poor. It's time the Republican party got out from under their rock. Or they can get left behind.
