Empty rhetoric. Who hasn't fed the hungry, lifted the poor... blahblahblah.

He destroyed Vene's economy and undermined democracy with his heavy-handed command and control. He made friends with the Iranian Regime and anyone else who would support his populist spending sprees.

The legacy of Chavez will be written after the world sees the results.

"The next Cuba" he dreamed... haha, good luck with that.

Ever since Obama and Co. shut him out, JJ has been desperate to get his face in front of a camera. Jackson sure has milked his moments with MLK for all it was worth. I wonder what Martin thought of the young Mr Jackson. Knowing that would go a long way in knowing the real MLK.

Leaders who run around in military uniforms are definitely not to be admired.

Jesse Jackson should have absolutely no credibility. He's a moronic race-baiting has been and he just needs to be ignored.

Well considering the state that it was in before he took power, then there was not much to "destroy". The corruption and right wing governments of old, did enough to destroy the economy by limiting the benefits of oil sales to the few and letting the masses rot in poverty.

and undermined democracy with his heavy-handed command and control.
And yet the country is in many ways more democratic than most western nations.. go figure. And remember, he was reelected in elections that even the opposition called free and fair.

Face it you hate him because he made fun of your country and your dear leader Bush. In reality Venezuela and Chavez was never a threat to the US and the fact that the US tried to remove him from power.. was another bonehead bungling right wing inspired failure of US foreign policy.

He made friends with the Iranian Regime and anyone else who would support his populist spending sprees.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend... no more no less. Since the US tried to depose him in a coup, then I am guessing he was a tad pissed over that.

The legacy of Chavez will be written after the world sees the results.
The legacy of Chavez will be written based on how the people of Venezuela feel about him and a large majority liked what he did. He raised millions out of poverty and took the oil money and actually invested it back into the economy... unlike before where it went to rich US based companies and right wingers who ruled the country for decades with an iron fist..

Was he perfect? Far far from it, but at least he had the majority of the population at heart and not the top 1%.

It's a developing country, let's not lose all perspective here. The government controls the press, makes movies and flat-out pays for votes. Really, let's not confuse a developing world cult of personality near-dictator for liberal western demmocracy.

What's next, Iran and nK are more democratic?

Yeah, like that's how we do history in the modern western world. I dunno what kinda dark-age cult might believe "how people felt about him" determines the value of a leader in history. What about Ghengis and Stalin? I bet Pol Pot was "well liked". Mugabe? How many cult dictators must ruin their country before you adopt a more rational means of evaluation?

A friend of ours is from Venezuela. He said that there used to be a lot of jobs there and a booming economy, mostly in the oil industry. After Chavez took over, the wealth dried up. I'm not surprised.

Jackson was not thought highly of by MLK nor was he ever part of that Inner circle. All Jackson has done his entire life is play off MLK so he and his family could live well and high on the hog. Course not many remember when his ass was running around with the Blackstone P Rangers. Nor when he got protection from the Stones.

He was nothing more than a punk that got religious when his life was threatened. Then he became a Preacher with no Church. Then a Preacher/Wannabe Politician. Anyone ever question how he was called a Shadow Senator of the District of Colombia?

Jackson showed everyone who he really is when Obama refused to be the liberal stooge.
