Kid's Purim Costume : The Burning Twin Towers [W:44]

Purim has begun, and just like with Halloween, children around the world are proudly parading around in their inventive costumes. This is one of the best times of year for our youngin’s- dressing up, going to parties, playing with friends, and playing make-believe… but what about the poor kids that are used as models for their parents distasteful creative endeavors?
Enter Ilay and Nehaoray, seven-year-old twins from Israel whose parents “playfully” decided to dress their children up in famous twin costumes: the Twin Towers. Not only are the kids dressed as the famous New York City buildings, they are fashioning the structures while on fire… with the planes sticking out of the side right near the children’s eye holes. Popular news website Ynet originally posted the image, with the headline “Twin Towers and other costumes this Purim.”

This must be something out of the hat of the parents, I doubt that kids will want to dress up like burning towers for anything. This is just as tasteless as this Dov Hikind fella that is a big complainer about anyone who dares portray Jews or Israel in a way that he finds offensive, but than dresses up as a black person for Purim?

The guy likes gay weddings to incest, wants Arafat out of Madame Tusseau's wax museum, refuses to allow the UN building to be renovated (because it is anti-American and anti-Israel) and calls for racial profiling by the NYPD about people who look like Muslims and called the passion of the Christ "the passion is a lethal weapon against Jews", but dressing up like a black basketball player is fine.

Let's just say, this costume and the one from the NY representative are much like traditional purim costumes, now it looks a bit "as Jon Stewart called it" Halloween but just a few months too late.

Anyway, burning twin towers for purim? Bad taste in costumes from the parents.

This is such earthshattering News that will impact us all greatly.

It's a good thing that there are posters here who scour the net looking for anything that makes Jews look bad so we can remain informed of these important world events.

re: Kid's Purim Costume : The Burning Twin Towers [W:44]

My first reflex was to say "Whoa, really, REALLY bad taste at a minimum..."

I still think it is, but...

The custom of masquerading in costume and the wearing of masks probably originated among the Italian Jews at the end of the 15th-century.[32] The concept was possibly influenced by the Roman carnival and spread across Europe. The practice was only introduced into Middle Eastern countries much later during the 19th-century. The first among Jewish codifiers to mention the custom was Mahari Minz (d. 1508 at Venice).[33] .....

Other reasons given for the custom: It is a way of emulating God who "disguised" his presence behind the natural events described in the Purim story, and has remained concealed (yet ever-present) in Jewish history since the times of the destruction of the first Temple. Since charity is a central feature of the day, when givers and/or recipients disguise themselves this allows greater anonymity thus preserving the dignity of the recipient. Persian Exile throughout the Purim story, and since hides behind alludes to hidden aspect of the miracle of Purim which was "disguised" by natural events.[34]

    Hmmm.

If someone (the parents I imagine) felt that the recent US intervention in the mideast (ie removing Saddam) was of great benefit to Israel and caused by the Twin Towers, then I can see where they might think it was a suitable Purim costume from the description above... an "act of God" that ultimately resulted in something that helped preserve them from their enemies.

Still think it is in poor taste but maybe not as insane as I first thought.

I did not think, how dare these Jewish people. I didn't even think of the religious origin of the parents, just about their bad taste/disrespectful taste in purim costumes.

This IMHO has nothing to do with anti-semitic views but with a costume being in poor taste. I would have thought exactly the same thing if someone would have dressed up their kids like this on Halloween. Poor taste is just poor taste, nothing more and nothing less.

You were not the one who originated the posting and who has such an undeniable track record for being here for the express purpose of disparaging Jews.

What you did was simply add fuel by dredging up something similar.
