Re: Ron Paul calls on U.N. IP enforcement agency to confiscate his own website

Ron Paul once said the UN has no authority and the US has no business being a part of it. Many libertarian followers feel the same way. So why would he want to use a UN Group to help him obtain a website? The hypocrisy is never ending with these people!!!! And no ICANN has nothing to do with this lawsuit. ICANN is mainly responsible for IP Addresses. Once again, libertarians making crap up!
There's no greater irony than a Trump supporter pointing out hypocrisy; Unless it's Trump himself.

Re: Ron Paul calls on U.N. IP enforcement agency to confiscate his own website

If Ron Paul thinks that the site "ronpaul.com" is using his name and likeness to trick people into thinking it's an official website, even if subtly so, he is within his rights to contest the domain name. Misuse of someone's name is fraud. In this case, it's definitely debatable, which is why WIPO is involved.

Also, the owner of ronpaul.com entered into a contract with a domain name registration service, one which particularly requires compliance with ICANN rules and which outlines the course of conflict resolution. Again, in the case where two parties are not in agreement and there is a written set of rules, third party arbitration is key.

So how else would Ron go about this domain name dispute? The local authorities? WIPO happens to be the third party and also happens to be part of the UN. People treat that like he is a hypocrite when WIPO has nothing to do with other UN business, just internet domains which are WORLDWIDE. I wouldn't want people profiting from my name either, or possibly going off and posting things I don't truly agree with, which could happen. If the site were related to Ron Paul the plumber, he would have no case. Since the site uses his political views and name , he now has a case. I think they should have hashed it out in private because now there are many disingenuous reports about the subject with varying negative viewpoints. In my opinion it is a non-issue since he has no other avenue to dispute the domain other than WIPO and they happen to use ICANN rules since ICANN started WIPO.

Of course the Liberty movement haters are going to jump on this and try to slander the whole thing to put Ron and libertarians in a bad light, that part was expected and is why I think it was a bad move on Ron's part.

A true libertarian would not want to be dependent on the govt and ask it to use force to take a possession (the domain name) from its' rightful owner.

And anyone who reads anything you post realizes you live in your own little world. Try growing up and maybe I will take you seriously.
