Critics of voter ID and other laws cracking down on voter fraud claim they’re unnecessary because fraud is nonexistent. For instance, Brennan Center attorneys Michael Waldman and Justin Levitt claimed last year: “A person casting two votes risks jail time and a fine for minimal gain. Proven voter fraud, statistically, happens about as often as death by lightning strike.”

Well, lightning is suddenly all over Cincinnati, Ohio. The Hamilton County Board of Elections is investigating 19 possible cases of alleged voter fraud that occurred when Ohio was a focal point of the 2012 presidential election. A total of 19 voters and nine witnesses are part of the probe.

Wow. Two known cases (according to the article) and one of them might have been an accident, not fraud. It's a freaking epidemic.

19 cases out of how many voters in Ohio? Besides it is too early to make any conclusions

If you read about the specific worker in question it tells a tale that I have witnessed first hand in Cincy. Ohio and Pennsylvania have many questionable practices that need to be addressed and managed. Elections in this country will be a joke until they are.

That's it? That's your example of widespread voter fraud? 19 POSSIBLE cases of voter fraud in a county where 418,894 votes were cast?

By the way, if you are going to commit voter fraud, voting two ballots and signing your name to each of them, seems to be pretty stupid. It sounds much more like an honest mistake.

She admitted to doing both on purpose, no mistake.

Using your logic we have to assume that arrest we see for illegal drug possession paint a fair picture of all the "actual" drug usage in the country?

Before the election, my city had been charging people for voter fraud who had voted or registered illegally because I would see the cases listed in the court reports, but I have never seen an article about it in the paper to link or statistics reported anywhere. I asked around and it was people who were either felons who registered or people who didn't live in the precincts they were voting in.

She admitted doing it because she wasn't sure her absentee ballot had arrived. You seem to be one of those people just convinced that voter fraud is rampant. Try dealing with voters some time - as I have done. Especially elderly voters. Nobody willingly risks years in jail just for the opportunity to cast an illegal ballot which has virtually no chance of affecting the result of the election anyway and which is easily detected. Really. Get serious.

So you are calling for government to get involved? Correct me if am wrong but I thought libertarians believed in less government, not more?

Yeah, I could see how someone could do that by accident.

Not.

Only mentally challenged people would believe her explanation. If she truly believed the absentee vote did not count she would not have wasted the time to cast it. Voter Fraud has always been unchecked in Ohio.

Hey, I've got a slightly used bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.....

I am calling for enforcement of the laws we already have. Using your logic above, why even vote at all? LMAO!

Voter fraud purpratated by a few people in isolated incidents

Vrs

State Government enacted voter surpression.

Which is worse in your oppinion

Maggie: then you've never worked an election. or worked with the elderly, who still retain the right to vote even if they get confused occasionally.

This is one of those manufactured issued by the Right, trying to find some explanation of why Dick Morris and Fox News were so frickin' wrong.

Hey, I've got a slightly used bridge in Brooklyn I'd like to sell you.....

You've already bought another one I see. It's the 'Obama only won the election because of little old ladies voting absentee and then turning up at the polling place' bridge.

Of course there is a lot of voter fraud out there. And most of the time those 'in charge' gloss over it, don't bring charges, and do not investigate. Why would they? It got them elected.

The cry that it doesn't happen is absurd... as if the USA is a special place where such things have never happened in the past, or a special place that doesn't have such things happen in/to it that happen all over the rest of the world. It takes a special kind of ignorance to believe we are somehow 'pure' ...

Yeah the illegal drug users we catch is a fair picture of all the illegal drug users in country, we get you.

The laws are clearly being enforced in this instance, so what's your point? That Romney really won?

This just in - he lost by about 5 million votes.

Every vote cast illegally effectively disenfranchises a person who cast their vote legally the other way. I thought Regressive, I mean Progressive Liberals were opposed to disenfranchisement.....guess not.

Except, of course, that losing candidates can contest any election because of illegal votes. Oh yeah, there is that. The courts must be flooded with these election contest cases.

Not.

Why would requiring ID stop it? It's similar to gun control in that a criminal who is intent on breaking the rules is not going to let a law stop him.

People will just get fake IDs, and the only people who will gain anything are those who make money selling fake IDs.

Obama won the election because incumbant Presidents USUALLY win elections.

Al Franken became a Senator, allowing ObamaCare to be rammed down the throat of the American people, because of felons voting.

Yeah, then there were those long lines in Ohio and Florida which finally caused people who couldn't stand in line for 8 hours to simply give up and go home - which of course was the idea in the first place. I'm sure you were equally outraged about that.

And it still didn't work!:lamo

The laws have not been enforced yet. Who said anything about Romney? Please try to keep up or try having someone read the posts to you.
