Americans on Disability Hits New Record for 192nd Straight Month

Anybody want to argue that we are actually seeing this kind of increase in our disabled v those who simply have figured out a new way to get free money from the government?

The number of American workers collecting federal disability payments climbed to yet another record high of 8,830,026 in January, up from 8,827,795 in December, according to newly released data from the Social Security Administration.

This is the 192nd straight month that the number of American workers collecting federal disability payments has increased. The last time the number of Americans collecting disability decreased was in January 1997. That month the number of workers taking disability dropped by 249 people—from 4,385,623 in December 1996 to 4,385,374 in January 1997....

In December 1968, 1,295,428 Americans collected disability and 65,630,000 worked full-time. Thus, there were about 51 Americans working full-time for each person collecting disability at that time. In January 1997, the last time the number of disability beneficiaries declined, 4,385,374 Americans collected disability and 104,900,000 worked full-time. Thus, there were then about 24 Americans working full-time for each person collecting disability.
In January 2013, with a record 8,830,026 Americans collecting disability and 115,918,000 working fulltime, there were only 13 Americans working full-time for each person collecting disability....
And those 13 are also supporting the people on Welfare, Social Security, Medicaid, Unemployment.... yeesh. No wonder we have trillion dollar deficits.

There is only one exception we know of for people drawing full disability that also does not have a cash-income job too. For one family we know, the husband, wife and now one of the children who turned 18 all are on 100% disability. Their yard service business brings in an additional $70,000 per year and - being cash - they of course pay no income taxes either as do none of those on full disability with sideline cash incomes.

I know there are people who truly are disabled. However, there is NO investigation mechanism even in existence to catch or investigate fraud.

So what is the solution again? oh yeah, put all those people out on the streets. Don't worry they are disabled so when they riot all we have to do is kick out their fake leg and then they flop around on the pavement like a fish. Don't worry, CP doesn't just want them to die, he wants to destroy your life also. You see, when these people have no more money to spend they will have to stop buying stuff. This will cause another downturn in our economy which will put more people out of work who CP also supports having them die in the gutter. Since those people will also not have money to spend then we will cut more demand and more jobs.

Yes people CP actually wants to destroy america with his plan of eliminating almost all demand for products and killing off every one of your jobs. At least it is not just cripples he doesn't care about. Of course, some of us who understand economics know you cannot support supply and demand off the one percent, but don't let simple things get in the way of faux outrage.

Yes, rage away as if you give a damn - when you don't at all.

People who commit disability fraud steal from those who truly are disabled by watering down the available funds for those who truly need it. Do you care? Do you care that disability fraud is actually stealing those who truly are disabled? No, you don't give a damn, do you? Not a word commenting that there is no enforcement nor investigation to prevent such fraud and theft.

Rather, you go into the ad nauseau mindless sheeple partisan raging on behalf of welfare fraudsters.

There is a simple difference between my message and yours. Mine does care about theft and fraud of the public treasury and from those who truly need assistance. And in your message you don't give a damn about the truly disabled nor those that steal by fraud from the SS system. You just created your own strawman of putting the truly disabled out on the street - which he didn't post - and the go off on some MSNBC rant against the "one percent" - as if that has any relevancy to this topic whatsoever.

Bottomline? You don't care about the disabled one iota. You just look for excuses to do pointless partisan ranting - and, yes, faux ranting.

Now add those who draw government employment checks working for government at various levels... and add those on food stamps, public assistance, housing assistance... and add military payrolls... and add those who ae surviving spouse dependencies.... and add those on social security - and then do the math of how many private sector employees there are compared to the number of adult Americans receiving money from the government in one way or another. Is it even a 1 to 1 ratio anymore?

It'll be a mixture of both with lots of fuzzy complications in between. There is certainly bad practice and corruption but dealing with that isn't as easy as looking at some raw numbers and jumping to conclusions.

What there needs to be is:

    1. An actual investigation department of the agency that investigates for disability fraud.
    2. There needs to be a whistle-blower bounty to report disability fraud - for example 50% of 1 year's worth of disability payments the fraudster would have continued to receive.
    3. HIGHLY publicized CRIMINAL prosecutions of documentable disablity fraud.
    4. HIGHLY publicized CIVIL litigation against documentable disabilty fraud.

The same should be true for medicare/medicad fraud, food stamps fraud - and ALL fraud against the public treasury - including corporate contracts and contractors, banks, etc, etc.

Disability and welfare fraud STEALS FROM THOSE WHO TRULY NEED IT - but watering down the available funds. If two people are disability and one of those is a fraud, they have stolen HALF of the money the truly disabled person could receive.

In addition, it is SO known there is massive levels of fraud with ZERO enforcement that 1.) there is no reason for anyone not to try and 2.) many people then oppose social programs knowing it is laced with fraud and the government is indifferent to it.

We are seeing an increase in our disabled, especially those who have psychological disabilities. Ever since the de-institutionalization instituted during the Reagan years, there have been more folks who are disabled due to mental health issues needing government assistance.

One big hurdle to get disability is being unemployed for at least a year, but with recent UI extensions that is no longer a problem. I don't pretend to know all of the ways to "qualify" as disabled but do know that "substance abuse" coupled with "personality disorder" will make the cut. There are countless disability "experts" (lawyers) that advertise on television for that $5,000 fee (paid only out of your SS "arrears", and only if you "win") that accompanies "success" in getting you on the federal list of "officially" disabled. A quick web search will reveal many of these "helpers" so that you too can "qualify".

12.09 Substance addiction disorders: Behavioral changes or physical changes associated with the regular use of substances that affect the central nervous system.

The required level of severity for these disorders is met when the requirements in any of the following (A through I) are satisfied.

    A. Organic mental disorders. Evaluate under 12.02.

    B. Depressive syndrome. Evaluate under 12.04.

    C. Anxiety disorders. Evaluate under 12.06.

    D. Personality disorders. Evaluate under 12.08.

    E. Peripheral neuropathies. Evaluate under 11.14.

    F. Liver damage. Evaluate under 5.05.

    G. Gastritis. Evaluate under 5.00.

    H. Pancreatitis. Evaluate under 5.08.

    I. Seizures. Evaluate under 11.02 or 11.03.
