Some vulnerable Senate Democrats are balking at President Obama’s new push on gun control, reflecting the tough position many will be in if Congress takes up major firearms legislation.

Vulnerable Senate Democrats balk at Obama

These pricks want to support it, it's just the timing is bad for them... and if I were the RNC or someone running against one of these Socialists, I would make the case plain:

1) We have a liar at the helm. A trickster who will do and say anything to get elected.

2) The press are his partners. (Run through the history; using their telecasts to make the case.)

3) A vote for this lying socialist is a vote for Obama's anti-American agenda; once reelected, he will tow the line.

In every election... Obama should be the target; you can add Pelosi (S-CA) & Reid (S-NV). Vote for this Senator and representative, and you vote for America's accelerated demise. You've been fooled twice... you want to try and correct your mistakes, and put a break on the idiocy? Now is the time.

interesting spin on the politicians listed in the article. I can only surmise the OP is either very new or highly selective in his memory of what politicians say in the beginning of any major political dance.

I recall Boehner drawing severe lines in the sand over taxes and debt... only to be crushed on all sides and now a non-actor on the national stage.

The Senate is supposed to go slow compared to the House. Time will tell how this all shakes out, balk wasn't the word I'd use but then again I am not Cameron Joseph. (I do hope he has raised his level of professionalism, he was suspended for piss poor reporting last august)

Anywho, on the three points-

The RNC can say, hey vote for our etch-a-sketch liar. We can lie with the best of 'em!

Oh yes play the victim of the press card, show how mean the 4th Estate is, playing the legitimate rape comments to death along with the 47% comments... shame on them !!!! but then again 'the media' is a series of corporations and they are people too my friend...

And seeing how the term 'socialist' was sooo successful this go-round by all means continue to flog that dead horse. Do ignore the fact many citizens see the GOP as taking a hard right tack, not the Dems going commie on us.

Finally by all means do attempt to make a local election a national one, millions will pour in from outside the state and those bad ol' medias will make a bundle running attack ads for both sides! Wadda Country, feed those you hate!

Personally I see some parts of the total agenda as not getting very far, but it is foolish to think everyone who is rural is also for urban folks running around with 30 round magazines and wouldn't mind a much better screening system for kooks in general and crooks at gun shows.

But do keep up the Stalinistic style rhetoric- bitter, over the top, and imflammatory. Great for overheating the base, inciting the chior and turning off moderate folks... :peace

Alright Harry.....Tell them the Way it is!

Obama push on gun control puts Reid in tough political spot.....

Reid’s job is to help move President Obama’s agenda through the upper chamber, but he must also protect his five-seat Senate majority, and gun-rights groups are threatening to go after vulnerable Senate Democrats who back the president’s calls for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Reid (D-Nev.), who has a long history with gun rights and the National Rifle Association, has been cagey in response to questions about how he will proceed. He knows a wrong move could cost his party its majority in 2014, another difficult cycle for Senate Democrats defending seven seats in states carried by Mitt Romney in November.

Already, a coalition of 36 groups supporting gun owners’ rights has formed to retaliate against any Democratic senator who votes for restrictions on gun and ammo sales.

Reid said Wednesday he will bring legislation addressing gun violence — verbiage Democrats have adopted as more politically palatable than “gun control” — to the Senate floor. But Reid has balked at the prospect of making a strong push on a new federal assault-weapons ban because it would be a political liability and he doubts the House would pass it.

“Let’s be realistic,” Reid recently told PBS’s “Nevada Week in Review.” “In the Senate, we’re going to do what we think can get through the House, and I’m not going to go through a bunch of gyrations just to say we’ve done something. If we’re really legislators, the purpose of it is to pass legislation.”

Reid made no mention of proposals to ban new assault weapons or limit high-capacity clips after Obama unveiled them Wednesday.

“I thank the president’s task force for its thoughtful recommendations,” he said in a statement. “I am committed to ensuring that the Senate will consider legislation that addresses gun violence and other aspects of violence in our society early this year.”

If Reid tries to protect endangered Democratic incumbents from voting on gun-control measures, he could be helped by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), which has jurisdiction over the issue. Leahy has a history of support for gun owners’ rights and has called for a practical approach to new legislation.

Senate sources believe gun-violence legislation will come up for a vote in the Senate, but the question is whether an assault-weapons ban or curb on high-capacity ammunition will be included in the base bill or offered as amendments to the legislation. Leahy will decide that.....snip~

What demorats all agree on is the need to increase federal power and spending. Note that the "disagreement" is simply to gun control (AWB/MCL stuff) not to any more borrow and spend "emergency" and "crisis" things, like sending gobs of money to their state's school systems (security! we need security!) and adding gobs more of "unfunded" mandates (or increased subsidies) to PPACA to increase "access" to mental health care. Rest assured that, whether any "common sense" is involved or not, demorats will come to agreement for more immediate federal (borrowing and) spending, since no "crisis" can be allowed to go to waste. These "fence sitters", aided by the MSM (and the pressure of Obama and Reid) will assert that even though they do not "fully support" the restrictive portions of this "emergency" legislation they see the overwhelming need for the federal spending portions, that will "protect children" and grant "access to" long overdue mental health care system "improvements".

The bottom line is that demorats all value increased federal spending and control much more than the mere freedom of the law abiding citizens. Sacrifices in our freedom are needed to borrow and spend more federal money on important stuff.

We must protect the children from being murdered unless that would put us at risk in which case we must protect our Senate Majority first..........principles you know

They all gave explanations and not one of them said "Well I'm worried about my re-election."

It's nice to see Democrats between a rock and a hard place...of their own choosing.

Expect to see a lot of spin from the Democrats and the media about how this is all the Republican's fault.

ROTFLOL... now that's funny...

Expect to see a lot of spin from the Democrats and the media about how this is all the Republican's fault, or that Republicans are racists.

Don't really care if they really believe what they say here or not, so long as they vote that way. I probably wouldn't support any of them for re-election, but I don't really care what they actually believe, just how they vote. I don't know about the rest of them, but I do think Mark Begich is actually being truthful there.

Bill Clinton blamed the Assault Weapons Ban for turning the Congress red in 1994, which is why Democrats are so scared of it. And rightfully so. Even appear to infringe on the citizens' rights and you will lose your seat. Either no legislation gets passed and the Dems likely retain control of the Senate (though, I'm guessing now their margin will shrink to one or two seats), or they do pass legislation and the Congress goes full Republican again. It will be a pyrrhic victory of sorts either way it goes: either we retain the rights we currently have, or the Dems get thrown out on their rump. But to pay for that pyrrhic victory, we have to either lose some of our rights or at least be bombarded with propaganda aimed at down that gunsight. And the only good part about a congress being all red, besides the inherent gag order it would issue democrats, is that we wouldn't be bombarded with angry leftist rhetoric that the Republicans were blocking their efforts anymore. I'm not such a fool to think that a Republican-majority congress is a panacea, but at least the braying and whining of the Democrats would be turned down a few notches. The Republicans suck too, but at least they don't go after constitutional rights.

Damn. And here I thought a libertarian agenda was the only conceivable and viable option for the next go'round. Never underestimate the Democrats' ability and penchant for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Perhaps they knew their time was running out, so why not embolden the other established party, get them comfortable and cocky, so they can rape us again with another decade of Democrat control in 10 or 15 years.

What matters is their voting record... that's right; and where were these beacons of sanity when ObamaKare was being shoved down our throats using parliamentary tricks... after Scott Brown had taken the dishonorable Dead Kennedy's seat? The Socialist Party showed us what they are made of... there are no Blue Dawgs... there are no conservative democrats.

Do you recall what happened to Liebermann, a former VP candidate after he was the lone wolf to go against the Socialists on Iraq... after some Socialists voted to send troops and then betrayed them in their moment of need... double fisting knives in their backs? The Socialists will vote to send troops to war because it is politically expedient... then they will stab them in the back because it is politically expedient. THAT is how sickening and deceitful the Socialists are.

What they believe matters, and their saying they will vote one way today will be replaced by enlightenment later on. You cannot trust the Socialists of Amerika Partei (SAPs). They will screw you every chance they get. This isn't an opportune moment for some... but give the bastards a bit of breathing room... and they'll vote for the Sozialistiche Partei Platform all day long.

No race card... just summing up the knee-jerk tendencies of the Socialists during the past 5-years.

Bill Clinton warned the Dems about playing around with gun control. He said they underestimate their opposition.

Honestly...isn't that democracy at work? Individuals baling at gun laws due to the views of their constituents?

I highly doubt they will be able to pass Feinsteins ban legislation. I doubt it makes it through the senate and it damn sure wont pass the house. What will be missed throughout this whole process is just how ridiculous this whole charade is. While they keep clamoring for "military style assault weapon bans" thousands of people will die in inner city violence from good old fashioned ordinary handguns, shotguns, knives, etc.

Yay...gun ban! 'For the children'!

CONSTITUTION... you can't just pass any law, and we have no King (Obama's executive orders).

We have a right to bear arms... to protect ourselves from and to have a tyrannical government fear US... we the people. Not for hunting.

And how many deaths and how much misery has Socialist legislation favored and promoted by PARASITE NATION caused?

Its a little bit funny. One of the weapons specifically listed on the Feinstein Ban is a Hi Point Carbine. The Carbine is chambered in .45 caliber and from the factory holds only 9 rounds. A perfectly legal 45 mm handgun can carry more ordinance. The difference? The carbine has a pistol grip (no...wait...the handgun also has a pistol grip). The carbine has a red dot laser optics sight (no...wait...the handgun rail also holds a laser sight). The carbine...well...it can be used with a strap! yeah...THATS what makes it an evil gun...ban it!

Typical gun control nut logic. If it looks like, or feels like an assault weapon ban it. It is not relevant if it saves lives or not. It just sounds good. It won't pass.

What are you talking about? The majority of the executive orders are utilizing laws already on the books.
