As a liberal, this does not upset me one bit. This is what the Konservatives do best, they marginalize. Exclusion is at their core. If you think about it, the conservatives are stuck in the 50s/60s with the "we will only serve" mantra.

Kons, this is why you will continue to lose in politics. You got your ass handed to you in Nov because you keep marginalizing groups of people (gays, blacks, women, Hispanics, immigrants, etc). You just go ahead and keep this up while the democrats stay in power and take another election from you in 16.

VERNAL — When George Burnett first set up shop in Vernal, he knew he had to find a way to connect with his adopted community if his custom seat cover business was going to survive.

Burnett took to the corner of 500 East and Main Street and began his one-man crusade to boost the spirit of a community that was getting its first glimpse of another oil and gas bust.
Fast-forward nearly five years and Burnett — now a local celebrity for his tireless support of the Uintah Basin's energy industry — has launched a new business that's earning rave reviews just weeks after opening its doors.
"I love this place. I will support this place with every fiber of my being," said Corey Peterson, a personal trainer who stopped by the I Love Drilling Juice & Smoothie Bar on Monday morning for a thick, green drink filled with avocado, spinach and fresh apple juice.

"It's a good place to come for lunch," added customer Shauna Snow, "or for a good snack that's healthy, not processed and also can give you good nutrients."

But there is one thing about Burnett's latest venture that's left some folks with a bitter taste in their mouths.

"I'm very open about it, very public about it, that I'm going to charge them a little bit more, and I have liberals come in and pay the extra dollar surcharge," Burnett said, referring to his unique pricing structure.

Yep, Burnett, the diehard supporter of domestic energy and longtime health food fan, charges those who identify themselves as liberals one dollar more for their drinks. The money, along with any tips received, is donated to conservative causes like The Heritage Foundation.

"And actually all three liberals have been happy to pay it," Burnett said.

"We had a husband and wife come in — he was conservative and she was liberal — and he paid conservative for himself and liberal for her," he added. But a few people have cried foul on Burnett's Facebook page.

"This is pathetic," one person wrote. "One place in town I won't be going," another said. "Highly offensive and inappropriate" is how third person described the price differential.

Burnett said his goal isn't to offend. First, it's to provide people with a healthy product. Second, it's to start a conversation about what he sees as the over-regulation of the energy industry and the continued financial problems facing the United States.

"Really what I'm focused on is the fiscal differences between big government/small government and liberal ways, as far as entitlements and spending," he said. "We have a fiscal problem in this country. We've got to deal with it or we don't have a country, so to kind of help make that point, just a little bit, I charge (liberals) just a little bit more."

Conservative customers like Peterson support Burnett's message and his method.

"For him to do this kind of puts a face out there on people who are, in my opinion, in the wrong. 'In the wrong' being liberals," Peterson said. "To see them being charged a little bit more, it makes me happy."

Contrary to what you say, It sounds like you're very upset.

Actually, I would pay a dollar more to only be around Conservatives.

Nope, this is the SOP for conservatives. Ive grown accustomed to it, and that's fine. Discrimination is not a good principle that I'll teach my kids.

pissing off half of your potential customers right out of the gate is fail when it comes to business.

however, it's his show, and he can play it any way he wants to. i would actively avoid businesses run by extremists on either side. i just want my damned sandwich, hold the hyperpartisan nonsense.

.
Keep in mind, this is UTAH. It's basically all mormons.
.

How about the energy industry refuse their subsidies, and then get back to us about "over regulation"...you can't take with one hand and push away with the other.

That "over regulation" is necessary because of the appalling human safety record the oil industry has...but for that over regulation we would still have the bad old days of regular rig floor dismemberments and death. Do we so quickly forget the Deepwater Horizon disaster that killed 11 human beings and caused the single worst oil spill in U.S. history because of BP's crass indifference to basic drilling safety protocols?

you talk of discrimination...but then put a stick in the eye of Mormons

No, im pointing out that it's a mormon state. Mormons are usually conservatives. There's probably just a handful of liberals that live in utah.

Did you post in the wrong thread??

Why do partisan liberals keep saying this? More Republicans won elections than Democrats in the last election.

Having the opinion that certain groups of people have shared characteristics is not the same as discrimination. I'll admit that a virgin birth, a triune God, bodily resurrection and dogged insistence on not practicing birth control sound kooky to your average guy...I won't blame anyone for thinking Catholics in general are strange.

This sounds so stupid that it's hard for me to believe that it's real. Wondering whether or not it was satire, I went to the original site and it looks legit. Ultimately, this is just going to hurt the business owner and I'm laughing at him saying that "liberals actually like it." Uh, I highly doubt any liberal "likes" this. It doesn't piss me off, but it certainly means I wouldn't patronize it. What an idiot.

No, I just tend to read all of the OP before I make a reply. ****ing weird I know, but I have that habit.

One dude has a little shop and does some stunt for publicity . . . and suddenly everyone who's a conservative is like him?

Or all Mormons are like him?

Just how far are you willing to bend yourself out of shape for this. Who cares - the guys food sound horrid, btw . . . avocado, spinach and apple juice? What he ****ing hell is that?

There has been numerous conservative business owners in the news the past few years that pull stunts like this. Im sure you've seen them.

and no one (me) is bent out of shape here :2wave:

There have been a few - what - liberal business owners never do **** to bring in attention and customers? Hell - Car Mart makes a killing off of giving pre-loans based on low-income status and last year's tax return amount.

This guy's selling crap to people who are dumb enough to go into a store and tell some dude their political affiliation . . . what's to stop a penny thrifty liberal from claiming he's conservative just to save a buck?

It's a non-issue . . . moving on: the egregiousness of turning memorial day into a sale bonanza weekend.

Actually I make apple and spinach puree for my son and its quite good, apple for the sweetness, spinach for a bit of flavor complexity (not too much), and avocado has natural fat so would give the beverage a bit of creaminess and some thickness. Actually sounds quite good to me.

I have never seen a liberal biz owner do anything like this. It always seems to be the Kons

Plz point out how car mart asks it potential customers if they are liberal or conservative. Such a ridiculous counter.

Don't like his gimmick then don't go into his craptacular business

How does the guy know? If a guy walks in wearing an Obama t-shirt maybe, but lets say they come in wearing a Utah Jazz t-shirt (since this is Utah). Do Liberals not like basketball or something?

Nah, just the opposite. It's an advertising gimmick that's age old. He knows the vast majority of his customer base identifies as conservative, and this plants them firmly on their "side" in matters that have absolutely nothing to do with his business, what he's selling.

Yeah, I didn't get that either. It's near impossible to tell the difference between liberals and conservatives in that kind of setting. He's dumb on several levels.

That's possible. I think that will backfire on him as well as I suspect some of his conservative customer base wouldn't appreciate his actions either.
