In late October, someone at the U.S. House of Representatives decided to catch up on the latest season of Dexter, illegally downloading an episode of the TV series while at a congressional office. In the days that followed, with Hurricane Sandy threatening to keep federal workers hunkered down at home, employees of Congress downloaded the 2012 mob film Lawless, a Halloween-themed episode of The Middle, and an episode from Season 9 of CSI: New York.

Yes, the same people who are attempting to pass bills that would provide stiff penalties for those who illegally download material, happen to be doing exactly that - Illegally downloading material.

No wonder Congress is so unpopular. They are a bunch of hypocrites, Democrats and Republicans alike - Which gives me an idea. Congress should now pass a bill providing an automatic 5 year prison sentence to anybody who is a member of Congress. LOL.

Reminder. The House is the Republican party.

They've been doing this forever. As little as a decade ago it was still being reported that the largest software pirates in the world was the US government.

I'd love to cut one out of the herd and apply the law fully and without quarter. Like the IRS does with celebs. Pick one and go after them full force and fully public, the rest are more forthcoming with their taxes after that. Grill one congress critter and rest will think twice about buying the RIAA's nonsense in the future.

Reminder, the House is called the People's House. You're saying the People's House is republican? Interesting from a fellow with your particular bent.

Didn't think that one through, did ya?

Reminder. The House is the Republican party.

And the Senate is the Democrats. So what? Doesn't matter what party they are members of, does it? A hypocrite is a hypocrite, and those who only point the finger at the other side are hypocrite enablers. Want to see one of those? Just look in a mirror.

When I worked on the Hill, it was "Congressional staffs still looking at porn" or something along those lines. When you have a bunch of college kids interning or 20 somethings answering telephones with access to computers, they do what they do online. Unrealistic to expect otherwise. These are nothing more than filler stories.

Try to make the behaviors of our owners into partisanship is a big fail as far as I'm concerned.

The reason people enter politics is to become rich and powerful and above the law in most cases. They pay themselves well, get lifelong benefits and even have their own health care system. We are just peasants to them regardless of which party they perform their show for.

No doubt, the hyper-partisans will only see bad conduct in the opposition but I assure you that this is universal.

There is one flaw with what you posted. You assume that they are our owners. It's the other way around.

Actually the House is 233/435 Republican Party.

Actually, the House is controlled by republcians...hence, Boehner, Weeper of the House.

The article addresses the HOUSE doing this..NOT the Senate. KNow who the crooks are...name them, them blame them.

Which, as you've been reminded, has no bearing on the behavior noted in the OP.

And who comprises the house and with what makeup? Are you serisouly suggesting that ALL Republicans in the House do this, but ALL the Dems in the House do not? Get real.

Theoretically, you may be correct. In practice, let me ask you who makes the rules for who?

I am flawless:roll:

The flaw with both your positions is that you actually seem to think that Members sit around their offices and they are the ones doing this. This is an illegal download site just saying they get traffic from the Hill. Since people have log-ins, it would be pretty easy for the government to know pretty much who is doing it if they so desire except maybe for desktops shared by multiple interns.

I don't think either of us presumes that the Big Bosses are making illegal downloads. I agree it is their staff. What's offensive is that it is tolerated and done on "company time" as they flout the laws they think we must submit to.

I think Dan and I are more discussing who is in charge of who. He thinks they work for us and I think we work for them. In reality, maybe neither of us or both of us are correct. It boggles the mind for sure......

Just depends. There are a few that actually try hard on behalf of their constituents; some who are more interested in just doing what the money men want; and most probably do mainly what their party wants under some guise that on balance the party is better than the other party.

I think there was a time when at least some or even most representatives deeply cared and made sacrifices to help their overall citizenry.

This is no longer true. As far as I can tell, the primary purpose of politic is self enrichment and boosting your friends and contributors. Any legislation is handled by your well paid by the taxpayer employees and you focus on what matters - money and re-election.

Yes, I know that's a very negative view. This is what I see through my not so rose colored glasses. If I'm wrong, well, hah, it sure looks that way....

Which is what our congress critters should be wearing, they are so full of crap.
