I have proposed using a statewide system of doing the NICS background check ONCE, upon issuing/renewing the state issued, photo ID; if the NICS bcakground check is passed then the ID is stamped "Gun OK" so anyone can rest assured that their gun/ammo sale is "legal", for federal law purposes, to that citizen. When a person is convicted of a felony, adjudged criminally insane or served with a court ordered protection order then their state ID can be invalidated (replaced). That method is so simple, efficient and is easily, equally effective to the mess that we now have.

Well, GOA has just posted some information on what the Biden plan will contain - Biden Proposals Include Framework for Gun Registry and Confiscation - Gun Owners of America

Personally, I'd be more than a little surprised if the Feinstein proposal was part of the presentation because it's so far out of bounds but, then again, it's not like Obama is planning on campaigning again so who knows.

Not quite, at least, in Texas. To get a CCW permit is 1) expensive, requires an NRA training course and 3) requires a separate ID card. The prerequisite NRA training course (locations costs/vary) is about $100 (maybe more, depending on ammo required) the Texas state CCW "application fee" is $140, and natuarally fingerprints and photos may entail additional travel/costs, they can (and do) take their sweet time in "processing" these applications. Of course the driving permit in Texas, with written/driving tests, including free photos, is done on the spot, and is only $24. Hmm...

I recall that but to be honest so many places want to see your drivers license for using plastic now I don't really care for every clerk out there to see I'm "gun ok" when it would be easier to have an instant check show up on a screen in a matter of seconds with a simple database. I've always suggested the instant check is something gun owners should favor, but in return gun owners that already own firearms should not have to wait / cooling off periods are ridiculous to an existing gun owner. That would make any dealer with a satellite / cell wireless Internet connection capable of going to gun shows and selling instantly their products again.

Oh the Irony......It is perfectly OK to charge people for exercising their right to own a gun, do background checks etc etc but the moment anyone suggests giving out FREE state voter ID's so that people have to prove their citizenship in order to vote all the libs cry foul and violation of rights etc etc. Screw the irony...this is just plain hypocritical.

You know...I hate to say this but liberals are starting to push me more and more towards the conservative side.

About 90% of those IDs will show "Gun OK"; it does not mean that you own a gun, just that you are not prohibitted from doing so. I would be more concered about showing an ID bearing my street address, which is none of their business either. The need of the NICS check for each gun/ammo sale is a pain in the ***, that can be skipped by using a brief look at your ID. Many non-FFL dealers should have no need to use the NICS or have need for the requisite manual records/pre-approval associated with its use. If I decide to sell one of my guns (or a box of bullets) I can do so legally by simply glancing at the buyer's ID.

in NC its pretty much what you said the first time..$60 class, wait for background check..fingerprint, pay some fee $90 i think, card issued...good for 5 years, renew by paying fee unless you screw up....ccw is also good for handgun purchase

Well one thing I like about your plan is putting "GUN OK" on the ID's of so many people will make them think - hey I can go buy a gun. Not too mention how it will really annoy the crap out of every silly anti that hates guns.
