Re: Journalists’ Addresses Posted In Revenge For Newspaper’s Google Map Of Gun Permit
Unfortunately this paper exploited the broad nature of freedom of information laws and abused the intent of such. This was a law meant to make government records transparent to the press by law, so that things couldn't be hidden by government employees in various agencies and positions. This abuse of that law was unexcusable.
I agree with you. There is no compelling public interest to know who hunts or carries legally, if an individual steps out of bounds and commits a crime it's fair game. There is a reason to know whether people who hold the public trust such as doctors, lawyers, etc. are in good legal standing, not their private residence, but their pracitice site, etc.Ic, I can understand if occupational licenses were public, like doctor's/dentist's etc. but more personal licenses like fishing/hunting licenses and gun permits shouldn't be made public I think.
