An Indiana man convicted of setting fire to a mosque in Ohio told a judge on Wednesday that he committed the crimes because Fox News and conservative talk radio had convinced him that “most Muslims are terrorists.”
Randolph Linn, 52, accepted a plea deal in which he pled guilty to all charges in connection to setting a fire in the prayer room at the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo on Sept. 30. Under the deal, Linn is expected to serve 20 years in prison instead of 40.

Linn explained to the court that he had gotten “riled up” after watching Fox News.
A survey released by Fairleigh Dickinson University earlier this year determined that Fox News viewers were actually less informed that Americans who watched no news at all. In fact, at least seven studies in recent years have confirmed that Fox News viewers are more likely to be misinformed than other Americans.

That sounds about as stupid as people who blame the devil or violent video games.

Couple that with the born again evangelical racist churches here and the John Birch Society and FOX news has its own little state of followers.

No, it's not the first time FOX has been shown to rile up people to violence.

I gather by your message you don't really care much for truth - and that is why you turned to a rabid anti-gun blog -

in which:

1. It is NOT quoting the criminal, but quoting some activist interpreting what she says he said
2. Falsely claim in your OP that she said he said he only knows what he knows from Fox News, when she said he said he also learned news "from the radio" - nor mentioned "rightwing" radio and
3. Failed to mention that he claimed to have drunk 45 beers in the 6 hours before the arson attack.

Extremely biase Op-ed blogs are generally crap - regardless of which radical side they rant for and again.

I wonder where Jared Lee Loughner got his ideas?

Maybe this just isn't the right country for Muslims.

That is such a stupid and biased conclusion that it defies belief that somebody would actually think it.

Do you watch FOX or just listen to CNN and NPR's hatred of it?

Also, the guy is obviously ****ed in the head... blaming his interpretation of news on the news itself is ****ing stupid.

...wouldn't 45 beers in six hours be incredibly lethal?

edit: random internet BAC calculator says that for a 250lb man, that would be a BAC of .63. Half of that is considered life-threatening!

And this is news HoW? People have been citing this study and others since August.

The study in NY state also said that Fox viewers were less informed about Europe and the world in general than Americans who don't watch or listen to any news.

Hell my mix breed knows more about the US and Europe than Fox viewers. Just ask her.

Since the OP appears to believe whatever she said he said, I guess then it must be true, huh?

Wow, I can drink some beer. But 45 beers in 6 hours I would not be sitting anything on fire. Is this story really true? I gotta read more about this.

I should have read the whole thread before I posted, I see others noticed.

interesting... not only do you believe what a criminal uses for his excuse... you march right out and make a stereotype out of it and assign it to literally millions of people.

this criminal is surely stupid.... but the way you are handling this is giving him a run for his money... maybe even besting him.

I know right? Can you believe all these people blaming guns and trying to ban them?

Exactly! Like, an airplane has been used as a weapon before. And when a particular bad example occurred, did we go run off and tighten airport security!? ...

Oh wait.

I'll bet I could put out a few though.

Well, you have to work your way up to that level. Of course, after drinking 45 beers I'd be willing to bet that I could put out pretty much any fire I managed to start....as long as somebody helped me remain standing.

After 45 beers you might be flammable yourself!

Not sure what that means... I am referring to good and honest people.

It means our government goes out of it's way not to upset Muslims. Can't have anymore films causing riots in the ME and killing American diplomats.

What if this idiot had drunk 45 beers and set a church on fire?? Would you give him a pass?

The reference to the defendants comments are repeated by two mainstream sources, linked. One of those sources mentions the arsonist also gained information from radio sources.
