GOP Authorized Half A Million Dollars In Secret to Defend DOMA, While Publicly Opposing Spending

"The updated contract now authorizes Bancroft LLC and Republican Paul Clement, former solicitor general, to spend up to $2 million in defense of DOMA, double the original agreement."

So the republicans are secretly spending money for DOMA. It looks like they passed a little secret bill that lets them spend 2 million on an unpopular law. The next time some republican paints themselves as a fiscal conservative remind them they blow a lot of money on keeping gay dudes from getting married on a federal level despite claiming it is a state issue. Thanks guys, and for that 2 million dollars you could have given 1666 people the maximum food stamps funds available to them. So yes, keeping gay dudes from marrying is more important to republicans that food for 1666 people. keeping gay dudes from marrying is more important than cutting spending by the government. keeping gay dudes from marrying is more important than keeping government out of your life. Oh, and keeping gay dudes from marrying is more important that the constitution, or the people of the US who feel that we should let them marry.

Not much of a secret apparently.

It is amazing republicans don't have anything to say about this. They seem to enjoy spending money on hate.

The things that Republicans deemed important in this election was their downfall. And if they continue to push this agenda, we will not see a Republican in the White House in the near future.

...how'd they pass a bill "in secret"??

You are correct, Obama should have vetoed this legislation to prevent this from happening.

Apparently, it's just a poorly written section in the article. There was no bill passed. It was an addendum to an existing contract. That explains how it was done "in secret".

Well, there's always Jeb Bush. I believe I read there hasn't been a republican in the whitehouse without a Bush or a Nixon on the ticket since 1928. Personally, the way the Republicans are going, and the contemptuous rejection they are incurring upon themselves in these modern times, I'm not too worried about a Republican in the whitehouse anytime soon. But you never know. The collective memory of America is fleeting.

well not in the next 4 years and 1 months, but after that, don't be surprised. Talk all the we won smack you want, but political tides changes, especially on Pennsylvania Avenue.

As for the OP, Congress has the right to defend the laws it passed. It isn't like Eric Holder or the Obama Administration would do it.

With all the money cities, county's, state's and the Federal Government spend on defending unpopular law suits and even "popular" one's you have some nerve complaining about them spending money to defend a law of the people. You going to tell me Illinois didn't spend millions on attorney's to fight for their "unpopular" ban on concealed weapons that was defeated? Michigan isn't going to have to spend millions to defend its "right to work" accomplishment this week; this is ridiculous you'd complain about this crap with all the money government must waste in court thanks to liberals.

The next Republican candidate needs to be a moderate, not a conserative. Chris Christie would be their best bet IMO

So youre concerned about spending or gay dudes or transparency?

Liberals only consider it waste if it is not used for supporting and furthering Liberal Ideals, if it supports liberalism, it's not a waste but a desired expenditure.

That is kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, isn't it. How much do Dems spend on hatred? How much have they spent on teaching people to hate the rich and profits? How much has it spent on caucuses and other organization that support elevating one race above another?

I don't support homosexual marriage, but I also do not "hate" homosexuals. Pity them? Sure. I think we should have organizations dedicated to finding the cause of this affliction and curing it.

See, you stating that homosexuality is an "affliction" and that it needs to be "cur[ed]" only shows your prejudice and homophobia.

Christie is "barely" a Republican, and his sell out to help obama after Sandy will haunt him for ever. He's one and done; Booker will beat him anyway.

He did the right thing for New Jersey after Sandy. That was not a sell out to get what is needed to help his state. That is common sense. Christie's approval rate in NJ is about 75%. What might hurt him is not taking the medicaid part of Obamacare. But I'm not sure that would alone kill his re-election. I think he shows that he can work with dems and that is what is needed to get things done.

I would like to see Boehner talk to the press while showing a chart and discussing that side of spending and not turn red in the face. ;)

Re: GOP Authorized Half A Million Dollars In Secret to Defend DOMA, While Publicly Op

HA! Imagine the hatred and calls for a painful and slow death that the tolerant and loving loons would reign down upon the head of anyone foolish enough to state that survival of the Defense of Marriage Act is worth spending any amount of money on!

If there was a cure i would not want it. Sorry kiddo, this is not a disease, problem, or something wrong. It is just people and it is actually good that there are gay people.

How would you know he turned red with that much bronze paint on his face?

See, you stating that homosexuality is an "affliction" and that it needs to be "cur[ed]" only shows your prejudice and homophobia.

I think cancer needs to be cured, does that make me prejudiced against people with cancer? I can hate an affliction without having to hate the people who suffer from it. I do not hate people who are homosexual because they are homosexual, if I have any dislike towards members of that group, it is because of their actions, not because of their sexual orientation.

A phobia is an unreasonable fear. I have no fear of homosexuals or of being homosexual, reasonable or unreasonable. Since I don't have a fear of them or being one, then, no, I am do not suffer from Homophobia.

Nice that you accuse some who considers homosexuality to be an aberration of a natural instinct, aka an affliction, to be suffering from an affliction.

Re: GOP Authorized Half A Million Dollars In Secret to Defend DOMA, While Publicly Op

Interesting how opposition to same sex marriage has now "officially" become classified as hate and intolerance.

The last time I checked people oppose SSM to the tune of about 60-40. If you can't win the argument I guess it's just easier to redefine the terms? Hell, it wouldn't surprise me if the next time it appears on a ballot somewhere it is worded "Hate and intolerance: Support check yes. Oppose check no."
