Hawaii protected from devious Chrisitan concert

Ya, another High School.

I heard no mention in the report that it was another HS (might have missed it). Was it even a public HS (original location)? And did you look at the video? That was no average HS band/orchestra. The instruments alone put it out of the reach of a public HS population.

Ahh, I rewatched it and they used to do it at another HS, but they don't mention if it was public or private. Also they don't mention that the performers themselves are HS students. It looks very much like a professional choir/orchestra. The report mentions this is an annual event and that the church sells the tickets with the proceeds going to charity.

Sounds like they're just using the school as a location for the event. Much as public libraries allow any group to use their facilities when not being used for library purposes.

Farrington HS. And IT WAS a HS orchestra.

And to think that we voted on Nov 6 in a church.:2razz:

You're correct. Although, if you're sticking with the comment about those being the HS's instruments - that school has one hell of a music budget. I looked into Farrington and it is indeed a public school, albeit a charter/magnet school specializing in performing arts.

How about this, the HS orchestra puts on a Xmas show using their own instruments, their own auditorium and their own orchestra director, and keep all the proceeds to fund music and band expenses at the high school?

BTW - I don't believe there is any African charity other then a church or evangelical mission owned or partnered with by New Hope. it's just another one of those little white lies christians tell because they think god will forgive them.

Because you know, the end always justifies the means when it comes to religion.

There probably isn't any African charity other then a church or evangelical mission owned or partnered with by one church or another. Does that mean the charity is somehow contaminated?

YOU might have voted in a church.

And in school facilities, mosques, temples, people's homes, public service organizations and government buildings. Anyone and any organization can volunteer to be a voting facility.

So you're saying it wasn't a faith based event because some of the kids had their own instruments?

I'm saying I don't believe it, I grew up in a religiuous houehold, went to religious school, etc., I know how they operate. Show me 200k the cancelled checks that Hope Church wrote to Mercy ships within a month of these yearly events and maybe then I'll consider it.

Churches may run a dozen fundraising events each year, maybe each one bringing in 30k. Most churches have a dozen charitable orgs (always affiliated with their church) that they donate a couple thousand to each year, but at each evet they always trumpet the 30k a year they donate as a reason to take part and claim all the proceeds go to the charities. Overall they bank 360k, donate 30k and stick the rest in their operating budgets.

This is such an easy problem to solve.

If the church pays rent and hires the orchestra (and any students are allowed to opt out for religious reasons), then it's fine.

Agreed, but that isn't what happened, they paid nothing.

This is the funny thing. It was the school board who cancelled the event and the only reason I can think of is because it was a blatant violation. But the event organizers could have solved this issue by simply paying for the orchestra and singers and paying for the facility, in effect splitting the profit with their church and the school system.

But instead they wanted to create sensationalized brouhaha. The problem was the church was using public resources and public facilities to generate revenue for their church and what's even more disturbing is they believed they were ENTITLED to it.

Indeed. All that money to Africa was certainly a threat.

Considering the amount of damage done in Africa by African Christians, I'd much rather find a wholly secular charity to give the money to, at least you wouldn't find morons trying to convert the natives to their primitive religion under the guise of "helping them".

The church is the only seller and the only place they're selling the tickets. It's specifically for this charity. Again, only being held at the HS because the roof collapsed on the original venue.

So pick a better charity, one that is wholly secular, to perform the concert for.

Problem solved.

Probably the only worthwhile thing that building was used for all years.

but unlike this event, you did not have to purchase a ticket to participate/attend

I got booted from the other thread, the stated reason was my use of "boob rant". Can someone here read it and tell me if it was that bad, bad enough to get the shoe?
