    Re: NYPD Officer Photographed

Why is almost everybody focused on this guys profession?
He was a Police Officer, so what?
It is just a guy with the good heart, and except for it putting him in the right place, at the right time, his profession really has nothing to do with this.

    for me it WAS significant
    a young policeman
likely working in the dregs of society
makes it pretty easy to no longer see the suffering that goes on there
    but he still saw it
and more importantly, responded to the man's plight
we are negotiating about dividing a pizza and in the meantime israel is eating it

People of all professions become jaded. So what?
His profession has absolutely nothing to do with his good heart.

You most likely could say his good heart is why he chose that profession.
But the profession itself does not matter to his act of kindness.

And as for the jaded view. The article gave it to us by quoting a respondent to the story.
"Clever stunt!" ... "The hobo is 'parked' at the entrance of a shoe shop."
And there is a good chance the reflection is accurate in that that is exactly why the guy placed himself there.
To play on passerby's heart strings. That is; to manipulate others.
And the Police Officer was just a sucker who fell for it.

yes, i hope for everyone's sake he was not being played for a sucker
don't think the cop would be so nice the second time out

but the reality is we do not do the good deed for the person. we do it to help ourself
which is why many of us are inclined to help when asked rather than turn a deaf ear in case we are being played

This would have made better television....

I just saw the interview with the officer again. I agree, he was very sincere. Good on him.
