Yes, Christians have been very active in The United States since it inception, and the country has been the better for it.
Cephus' point was that Christians have been far more than "very active," they've used their perception that the United States is a "Christian nation" to justify the use of their collective influence (which is dramatically out of proportion with the segment that the religious right actually constitutes) to shove their religion-stepped political agenda down the throats of their neighbors. That's what Cephus calls "running rampant," and he's pleased to see that being slowly and gradually reigned in.
