Listen, we want liberty and the pursuit of success for every individual citizen of this nation, that is what Conservatism/Libertarianism is!
I fail to see it. As for me, I find the same thing in liberalism/progressivism. As far as someone saying I shouldn't be a Buddhist, it's hard to be part of a religion other than Christianity in a nation that is primarily conservative Christian. As far as programs that are anti-liberty supported by conservatives, it's hard to think that conservatives support liberty for all, when their main concern is business, and the lower classes seem to get thrown by the wayside. It seems that WASP's are the one's who have the easiest time with success in this country. There's many reasons why I'm liberal, one of the main reasons is because I see it as supporting liberty for all, and not just for some. Liberalism is about the common good, the good of all, and the good of the nation as a whole. Conservatism focuses too much on the individual, where stands the greatest chance for chaos, disorder, disunity, and the opportunity to stand against patriotism. It's also, as I see it, the more spiritual of the two schools of thought. Most spirituality, and especially the founders of the various religions, seem to be more liberal in their outlook. I could go on, but I feel I'm already about to derail the thread.

You might be able to keep going but your concept of big government is very different from the Conservatives' concept.

Your idea of big government excess can be committed by even a small government. What you describe is actually government over reach and intrusion.

Wouldn't it be true that government over reach and intrusion is a common small-government conservative's definition of "big government"? Let's consider recent developments. The Affordable Care Act. The two common complaints boiled down to intrusion and overreach.

This doesn't preclude the possibility for big government conservatives. If I were to be considered in any way conservative, I'm more from this realm. We've had them since the Adams and Hamiltonian years.

Traditionalists can easily be small-government conservatives, but see little to no problem with maintaining what they view as social cohesion. I'm not really of their sort, but it isn't unheard of (in fact it's rather common).

No like you can't see anything when you close your eyes. Read the founders.

I have, and as I described in a short way, they seemed pretty progressive to me.
