    Is it Tuesday?

Maybe its one of those summary executive Obama assassinations with the cowardly drone?

gas explosion. happened in my town in the early 2000s. not nearly as serious that time; only leveled one house, and no one was home. a mailman got picked up and blown about half a block away by it; he ended up being ok.

this one looks really awful, though. prayers and good thoughts for the folks on the south side.

Propane isn't used in suburb type communities so much, it is usually natural gas which is lighter than air....leaking gas rises in air and will collect in the upper parts of your home.
Propane is most often used in rural areas. is heavier than air, and when leaking it SINKS, collecting in lower parts of a home, like your basement.

I live about 30 miles east of Indy, and I heard about it last night at work. I haven't seen alot of the details, but from what I can figure, it seems like a gas leak.

Gotta be either a natural gas or propane leak Those things are not so easy to detect especially after an explosion as the leak could be elsewhere but moving through sewers/pipes or building up slowly in basements/crawlspaces until the concentration is sufficient and an ignition source is found.

Indianapolis explosion: Mystery blast devastates neighborhood, kills 2

Huge explosion. Looks like some people may have been doing some home repair and it went south in a bad way.
    Thank you

At the moment, they have the crew onsite expecting from the gas line to the meter. There were no leaks detected in the underground gas line, but they think it was due to gas. One of the homes that exploded had a higher gas use than other homes in the area, although the gas company hasn't confirmed it yet.

That was one hell of an explosion. 80 homes damaged? It is sounding like they think it was a furnace issue ( Gas Leak) although they are also saying no smell was detected. I suspect since it is colder out and the houses are all sealed up for the winter it could have held everything in till it blew. Just speculation on my part.

Sorry to hear that people were hurt in this.

My guess would be it leaked into the basements and hit the flame on the water heater. I have a natural gas furnace (well technically two of them) in my house and have bouts of paranoia about leaks.
