State Dept: Hillary to Step Down Despite Obama Win.....

State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland said Wednesday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton still plans to step down after her successor is chosen despite President Barack Obama winning a second term.

“I don’t think the secretary’s plans have changed. You’ve heard her say many times that she intends to see through transition of a successor and then she will go back to private life and enjoy some rest and think and write and all those things,” Nuland said.

"I have ruled it out. It's important for me to step off this incredibly high wire I've been on, to take stock of the rest of my life," she said, adding, "I will always want to be in service to my country."

She the list of possible Democratic contenders for president in 2016. Vice President Joe Biden’s name is also being bandied about for a presidential run in 2016.....snip~

Either starting her run in 16 or a spot on the court. Either way good luck

It's routine for most of these officials to stop after one term. We might be reading too much into this.

Didn't Colin Powell do kind of the same thing in '04?

She stated numerous times before hand she would retire after Barack's first term, regardless of the outcome.

If she is going to run and so is Biden that will face them off in a Primary. How can Biden even think he stands a chance against her is beyond me.

I doubt Hillary Clinton will run in 2016. I'm not surprised she's stepping down. She's getting old.

Aside from the fact that there was clear-cut tension in that relationship, yeah. The thing is, this is a long-standing tendency in government work, stretching to some aspects into the beginning of the Republic. The good thing is you can discover these sorts of things readily through Wikipedia rather than go through an endless amount of documents. Lower-level administration/department officials typically quit within a couple of years of obtaining their position. It's demanding work, doesn't pay as much as these guys and gals can make from the private sector (with their useful skills, qualifications), and doesn't entirely help their resume afterwards to remain in the same spot. There's some notable exceptions, like Henry Stimson, but it's pretty common to get these people come in, make their mark, and split, or get a new position in the administration.

Hillary loves the limelight too much to leave public life, but she can't run in 2016 unless she puts some distance between herself and the disaster that Obama's second term will be.

    She's said as much herself.

I dont know why people keep talking about her & 2016, after she's ruled herself out. I know politicians can change their mind but in this case she's not only ruled herself out but given the reasons, years at the top, in the limelight, getting older, wants to enjoy the rest of her life & more time with her family.

For those looking for candidates though she also said though that she'd like to be there to applaud Americas first female president, so she's looking for a woman.

Anyway, good luck to her. I hope she enjoys her retirement.
