GOP civil war: Herman Cain calls for third party - Salon.com

Haven't even counted all the votes yet. Republicans are already eating their young.

If all the "real conservatives" leave the GOP, are they the RINOs, or are the ones that stay the RINOs? Don't count out the GOP yet, but they got some figuring to do...

Herman Cain is a POE.

A staunch social conservative split from the Republican Party could actually develop into a viable party...

...however, for that to occur it would essentially take at least 2 full presidentials cycles, and more likely a greater number than that.

What this "conservative" party would be doing is essentially guaranteeing the next administration will be a Democrat and a two term president, and likely empowered with a democratic Senate and House during that time.

This is the same group of people who have segments of their population suggesting we'll be destroyed as a country if Obama got re-elected.

After 8 years of elections, I could conceivably see the swing over from Republicans to this new "Conservative" party enough to make it clearly the "#2" party. The problem being is that even at that point they likely wouldn't have a base strong enough to elect someone over a unified Democratic candidate.

So it's possible...but would basically "Destroy the country" based on the rhetoric coming out of some of the mouths of those in that camp.

Basically we would get a three party system. I think if this happens maybe more than three parties and it may open up ballot access. If the democrates where smart they would push for open access to the ballots. They would be the be in power for a very long time, if that occured. The conservative side would have a hard time putting together a majority.

So what will this new party be about? Lowering taxes on rich people and shifting the burden to the little guy? Good luck with that boys.

hopefully there will be a 4th party centered around legalizing marijuana and public nudity, i could really get behind that. :lamo

You could always become a Pauligan.

Split votes with the Republican Party, the Paulites, and themselves?

If they want to kill themselves politically and the Republican Party they are more than welcome to do so. I'll move with the small remaining conservative/moderate wing of the Democratic Party and admonish them. "Real conservatives" are not worth that political stupidity and suicide. Roosevelt was nuts when he did it, and those groupings of Republicans would be even more idiotic if they were to do so now. No one deserves power if they are willing to be that careless with it.

Dont know, and to be honest dont care anymore. If this is what people want let em have it. I am bailing out. I can see where this country is headed and I dont feel the need to be here when it gets to its destination. I just hope it dont speed up long enough for me to clear out.

Today on the Net I've seen clips of conservative pundits suggesting that some Republicans are saying that the reason they lost is because the party isn't conservative enough. WTF? Are we to believe people are serious when they say that?

There was a 3rd party effort this time for conservatives - the Tea Party. It began with some ideas worthy of consideration. Later, the party came under control of radical conservatives who wanted more than smaller government, fiscal responsibility and a balanced budget. Somewhere in the process the GOP in an act of wild assed paranoia sorta, kinda brought the Tea Party into the big GOP tent. By the time the GOP woke up the Tea Party had morphed into a rabid anti-abortion, Mexican hating, SSM protesting gaggle of religionists who were hell bent on social engineering America. Unfortunately for the GOP this Tea Partisans found a kinship with the fundies who have had a strangle hold on the GOP for decades.

If a conservative third party is nothing more than another party rife with ultra conservatives and maniacal religionists it won't go anywhere.

As to the GOP, if they can't throw the Tea Party and fanatical religionists over the side they will remain fairly ****ed.

Will not happen within the Republican party. Even if Cain did break away i dont think it would get much attention.

Those who think their side of the party should split will be happy. They will get lots of help from the left who will enjoy watching the 48% fragment.
