UPDATE: New Jersey utility denies turning away nonunion electric crew volunteers from

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Oh Good God, why is it wrong for me to want the people who are under contract by the power company to be put to work (which is what they are HIRED to do BTW)? It would NOT slow down the progress. They could still get volunteers. So why is it wrong?

You brought it up, and look, oops you did it again.

still you think there are qualified local people "on the bench" ?...it isn't so. If they are qualified, they are working, unless they don't want to work....
Power companies don't train people and then pay them to sit on the bench. They put them to work. But they only hire and train based on typical needs. When disaster strikes, they work overtime.

I wasn't aware of that. I have a couple of friends and relatives who work for the Laborers Union, and that is how it works for them. I just assumed that all "laboring" type of unions operated the same way.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Should of took the offer to quit when I offered.

Here we go again.
Typical distraction.

Wrong! False. However you want to call it, you are wrong.

It is you who are obviously assuming.
And I haven't put a single word in your mouth. So knock off the false accusations.
And no, I am not kidding!

It seems as though you are either purposely playing a game, intentionally being dishonest, or just have no idea what you previously argued.
Which one is it?
I am beginning to suspect it is a little of all three.

And make no mistake about it folks, the above is just another attempt at distraction.

So in reply to your ridiculous assertions, we have the following.
Were you specifically talking about Union members in this quote?
If so, why weren't you specific?
Since you weren't, why are you attempting to distract with this bs because I wasn't specific by saying "Union members"?

How about in the above quote?
Again, the same question as to why you demand I be specific when you were not?

Or how about the following?

Local residents first? Is this you only referring to Union Members also?
Again same question as before.

Or how about this one?
Were you referring to Union Members when you specifically said the following?

You absolutely referred to those out of work as I said, and not just Union members as you assert.

And since I see it coming, I might as well head it off now.

First of all I never said "everyone" out of work as you apparently think I say you stated, I said "those out of work".
Secondly. "Those" out of work, specifically refers to the ones you were saying were "unemployed".
Do you need anymore clarification?

That's nice. Just saying. :)

What exactly are you going through all of this trouble for again? I can hardly remember the point you are trying to make by searching through my posts and reposting them. What the heck do you want from me anyway?

I'm not against volunteers coming to help, but I want the power companies to hire qualified people who are out of work right now. Of course, Utah Bill filled me in on some details about how the lineman's union would work that I was not aware of before.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Sorry I'm late to the discussion, but I was WORKING on the storm myself through Saturday and have been trying to rest for the last couple of days, so I hadn't seen this until now.....

The proper thing for these out-of-area crews to do would be to contact the COMPANY, not just show up and talk to a crew. There are appropriate channels to use in making this sort of offer of assistance. Simply showing up and offering to help is NOT the right way to do it.

In terms of the Union vs Non-Union issue.... MANY, if not MOST Utility Company contracts require any Non-Union or outside crews to utilize the same practices and safety guidelines as the Union workers that the company normally employs (and occasionally their pay guideleines as well). These things are negotiated in the Union Contracts.

More deflection. Do you honestly think others don't see it?

And you are welcome, it has been no trouble at all.

What do I want from you?
Nothing really, other than for a person to not misrepresent what they have said when they are called out on it, and to not misrepresent what that other person either.
I would suspect that most people would desire such.
:peace

I didn't represent or misrepresent anything. Just giving my opinions in a discussion.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Evil? I don't think they're evil. I think they have gotten a bit out of control and greedy though. Overall, though, I support unions for the good of the workers. I think they are especially important in industries like the construction industry, but they do need to be reigned in a bit IMO.

all you really have to do to argue in support of unions is look at the feudal state of our country, run by robber barons, at the late 19th/beginning of the 20th century before unions were widespread/even legal.

:naughty Oy vey!
Why you keep digging this hole deeper, is beyond me?

You are now being dishonest about what you did.
You clearly misrepresented what I said, when you said I put words into your mouth, when in fact, I hadn't.

Saying someone has put words into your mouth when they haven't isn't just misrepresenting what the other person has said, but dishonesty also.

So, are you willing to quit now, or should we continue?

Nope, you haven't proved anything. I never said that no volunteers should be allowed in. So, you are still wrong. :2razz:

Chris Christie addressed this two days ago.. saying Romney's "know nothing" aids hyped the story.

Still digging that hole I see.

You again are misrepresenting what has been said.

Don't think so?

Show me exactly where I said, that you said, "no volunteers should be" let in, as you indicate above.
Even if you bothered to try, you couldn't.

You don't even know what you have previously said and even accus me of putting words in your mouth when I hadn't, and after it has been shown that you are wrong, you now want to say something like the above? :doh Ridiculous!

Keep digging.

Then what the heck are we arguing about? Anyway, you should admit that you just hate unions, and that is what this is all about.

Re: Union Thuggary at it's Finest

Still digging I see.
You already know exactly what we have been arguing.
Which is why you are desperately trying to deflect away from the wrong position that you took.

Your wrong headed position in being ok with, and defending, what was reported as having happened.
Your mischaracterization and misrepresentation of another person's position.
And your straight forward dishonesty and continuous deflection.

But you already knew these things.

Anyway, you should admit that you just hate unions, and that is what this is all about.
Sadly, just more deflection, dishonesty, mischaracterization and misrepresentation on your part.

Whatever. I really don't care anymore. This is just getting boring.

It's just the first step in overturning a century's worth of progressive labor laws.

Really, hyperbole much?

Good?
Doesn't change the fact that you have again attempted to distract away from your dishonesty and wrongfulness.
