Chris Christie: Obama ‘outstanding’ in response to Hurricane Sandy

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...rricane-sandy/

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R), generally a harsh critic of President Obama, has nothing but praise for the White House response to Hurricane Sandy.

“The federal government’s response has been great. I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the President, personally, he has expedited the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area,” Christie, a top surrogate for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, said on NBC’s “Today.”
He added, “The President has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA.”
On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Christie was equally laudatory, saying “the President has been all over this and he deserves great credit.” Obama, he said, “told me to call him if I needed anything and he absolutely means it, and it’s been very good working with the President and his administration.”
This is exactly how I would love to see politics be at all times. Normally, I am not a fan of Christie but I appreciate that he has put the people of his state above all others and certainly above hyper-partisan BS that is easy to sling. I appreciate the fact that he "doesn't give a damn" about presidential election politics and believe that this is a shining example of how state and federal government, as well as republicans and democrats can work together. Posted on the page is also a video I believe to be worth watching.

In many ways it is truly genuine "above partisanship" in a time of disaster, but they are not unaware of the political consequences of their every action. Sometimes it is in their best interest to appear to be on the same page, and this includes any disaster. Both the President and his challenger are doing everything they can to not rock the boat, to be on their best game. For the President this means making with absolute certainty that FEMA is in good shape, that the folks affected are feeling positive about the government's handling. For his challenger, this means not to look out of place or offensive, and to do what he can to contribute to the effort.

As filthy as this campaign has been, this was a bright spot. Very wise.

It's a shame that oftimes it takes the worst of events to bring out the best in people, that's true.

I agree, Fiddy, there is always politics to be played unfortunately. I do however like to see this sort of behavior across party lines. It's become altogether too common to forget that we are all American's first, and at the end of the day we should come together in the case of emergency. It's sickening to me to see people dying and others in tremendous danger while seeing others pointing fingers and figuring out how to blame the otherside to gain political traction. Whether this was genuine or not, it was a breath of fresh air to see and would think it would be an absolute improvement to bring some of that attitude to partisan politics in Washington. I think alot more would be accomplished if parties complimented each other for political gain instead of focusing always on the attack.

He can always say that even though Obama wasn't a very good POTUS, maybe he would have a future as FEMA Director.

I can hear Pres. Romney saying to him at some natural disaster site, "you're doing a helluva job, Brownie...er, Barry."

Ha. If Governors can get help, they like any President of the United States during any natural disaster.

    You're kidding, right.

For those who might take your sentiments seriously, Christie's gesture does nothing less than make him appear less oppressive to some less-than-staunch Conservative, Indi & Liberal voters. It is ,strateegery wise, a smart move to show his ability to get along with Democrats.
