UN to be at American Polls?

Wtf. It isn't conservatives they need to be focusing on, when it comes to intimidation tactics and dead voters. As for the UN, it doesn't amount to much more than tin horn dictators and Israel-haters these days, so what does that say?

It says a lot when outside observers look at this country and think there is something seriously wrong with the conservative party.

Generally when everyone but yourself thinks there is something wrong with you, there usually is. Not all the time, but I'd say a good majority of the time. Maybe conservatives need to take a good look in the mirror.

Some of us have little use for Democracy and even less for Freedom.

Which is no different than what I have been saying throughout my entire tenure here at DP. Most people here are unlikely to be shocked, stunned, or surprised by that, because they've known it for a long time.

That's true. Not stunned at all.

No, they just want an I.D. when people vote, like it already is in Alabama.

Except that real fraud occurs with registrations that aren't turned in

Where are the laws to prevent these things from happening?

So liberals fear Obama losing.

Europeans prefer a weak United States, so that their own influence is relatively stronger. This is the reason Europeans love Obama.

How about our troops? Why is there a problem there? Why are ballot requests down?

The issue isn't prohibiting people in military service from voting early.

The issue is that Republicans are trying to prevent everyone else from voting early.

International observers are a good idea at any election at any country, especially in the USA. It is time that the world realizes that the USA domestic politics is nothing like what is sold to them, and US elections are in no way superior to other elections, including African ones.

I'd like to know exactly what the "observing" entails.

They are at polling stations watching the procedures and see if they live up to internationally set standards. It is pretty straight forward. I believe last time they did it, the only issues there were was concerns about conflicts of interest with validating and running the elections, which is something everyone knows is a major problem in the US.

If they honestly just observe I don't see too much of a problem with it, other than it being relatively little of their business. I do, on the other hand, expect some kind of fallout over this.

It is the same thing they do in 3rd world countries and even in some European countries. And they only do it when invited. They observe, gather information, and evaluate the election based on set international standards (set among others by the US) on if the election is fair and what issues there are.

Of course there will be fallout, the conservative spin machine will spin this into some sort of anti-Obama thing, despite that Bush called them in not once, but twice...

I imagine re-counting the votes after the official final results, plus reporting on legal process violations to some international recording panel, and maybe some news feeds.

Maybe they'll be able to keep dead people from voting this election.

Bush 1 or Bush 2?

I don't much care for the thought of it. America should be able to conduct a fair election. I do remember for the last several years the Republicans talking about the bus loads of illegal voters going around voting over and over for democrats. I would think they would welcome some oversight.

Actually lets give an example. Remember the whole blowup in Wisconsin's supreme court election 2 years ago or so? Where a GOP member and organiser "found" 4000 extra votes that she had incorrectly reported in after storing it on her personal pc and all that? That would be a major red-flag on a UN report.. not enough to class the election as bad, but enough raise concerns. It is stuff like that. Now a lot of these "cases" often means the UN states that the election is flawed, but that requires a pattern on national scale for the most part.

I would stop them dead guys from voting only after I collected all their arreas taxes after their deaths.

There are already WAY too many people voting, this one vote per citizen system is not sustainable, in my humble opinion.

Are you suggesting we go back to giving 1/3 votes to Black people? :p

Absolutely yes. Plus, maybe even more importantly, those sheeply 3rd world public opinions that the US is somehow super fair in politics will then get a bite of reality.

Actually this whole story is BS, and the UN is NOT monitoring the US election. I'm sure you are disappointed.
