Ryan-endorsed Wisconsin Republican: ‘Some girls rape so easy’ | The Raw Story

A Wisconsin State Rep. endorsed by Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan told a reporter that he believes “some girls rape so easy.”
State Rep. Roger Rivard (R) later insisted he was merely recounting a story from his father about the dangers men face in having premarital sex. Instead, he somehow wandered into a jaw-dropping commentary on how easy it is to accidentally rape women.

Raw Story (Ryan-endorsed Wisconsin Republican: ‘Some girls rape so easy’ | The Raw Story)

Any republican care to comment?

Why should it just be republicans commenting? Is there some sort of asinine rule limiting criticism to the party from which the action originated?

There is no cause so right that you cannot find a fool following it, if you are looking for one.

In a nation of 315 million plus, there are surely plenty of fools at all ends of the politicial spectrum.

You found one. Congrats.

While I generally don't have an issue with the generalized sentiment and warning of his father, the method of stating it and the seeming mentality that his father built upon the general foundation was incredibly ignorant and short sited and the politician was ridiculous to reuse such words in almost any situation I could possibly imagine. I would wager that it will likely have a negative impact on his candidacy for a state house position.

Although he worded it very (VERY) badly, consentual sex during into a claim of rape the next day is not all that unheard of.

I'm going to guess the point of the statement has to do with outlawing abortion and then how to address all a woman need say is "I was raped" to get around a rape exemption.

I'm very very pro-choice, but trying to attack Ryan by claiming he endorsed a fellow Republican and then going further to find some badly worded pro-life explanation that other person said goes into the whelm of desperation as an attack against Ryan.

It is known Ryan is very pro-life. The OP adds nothing to that.

I hate this stuff in general, because despite how stupid it sounds in print I'd wager that these are the kinds of jokes a huge amount of Americans say all the time with their friends, especially given the context he alleges. It's what annoys me about electoral politics, people who otherwise wouldn't be offended at all, and would never really believe that someone saying something sexist, racist, or offensive in general off the cuff is indicative of anything more than being normal suddenly don all of their white armor and pretend to be righteously indignant. It makes politics so damn robotic and personality based. For example there is no damn way LBJ could run for anything today. Why? He'd get outed for making jokes about his giant dick.

I don't know much about this guy, about why he said this other than his own explanation, and I don't care. It isn't a big deal to me at all.

OMG...so women are the latest war republicans are waging against.

Well, we all know republicans think women are a big joke and want the right to tell all women in the US when to have a baby, how many babies to have and by whom.

How's that war on women working out for you ladies?

Ryan has withdrawn his endorsement for Rivard. Ryan drops endorsement of Wisconsin lawmaker for saying

Note that he had done so before this thread was even made.

Withdrawing AFTER the comment was made. But he endorsed this man before. Did he not know this guy? Just partisan politics? O does he agree with this man's depiction of women by his own desire to tell women WHEN to have babies, HOW many to have and by WHOM with withholding abortions and birth control from women?

See.

Once again stupidity becomes news-worthy. Sooner or later, more will pick up the trend. Besides, I think he has been watching too much hentai.

20 bucks says this guy will run for office next term.

Psst...the desperation is showing.

What? I don't understand what you are saying.

Let me know when you decide to quit lying, exaggerating, and making **** up. Until then you aren't worth talking to.

AAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Your undisclosed tag at your leaning... do change it to something apropiate. Because you are one of the most biased individuals I've ever had the displeasure of reading comments of.

An anecdote from his father . . .

He also told me one thing, ‘If you do (have premarital sex), just remember, consensual sex can turn into rape in an awful hurry.’ Because all of a sudden a young lady gets pregnant and the parents are madder than a wet hen and she’s not going to say, ‘Oh, yeah, I was part of the program.’ All that she has to say or the parents have to say is it was rape because she’s underage. And he just said, ‘Remember, Roger, if you go down that road, some girls,’ he said, ‘they rape so easy.’
Raw Story (Ryan-endorsed Wisconsin Republican: ‘Some girls rape so easy’ | The Raw Story)

I actually agree with that as being pretty sound advice for an 18-year-old.

Forget the economy: this election is becoming a referendum on women's bodies, since it's women (according to the Republicans' Book of Holy Misogyny) who like to have sex without wanting to get pregnant, and, if they do get pregnant, might want to have an abortion; women who demand, as former Senator Rick Santorum says, a "license to do things in the sexual realm that is [sic] counter to how things are supposed to be."

You know, "sluts".

Republicans in Congress have launched a dubious investigation of Planned Parenthood, the century-old women's health organization, and tried to take away its funding. The Senate narrowly defeated an amendment that would have allowed employers to deny insurance coverage for anything the employer found morally or religiously objectionable: contraception, certainly, but perhaps also lung cancer treatment ("you should have stopped smoking"), HIV/Aids testing ("homosexuality is an abomination"), and pre-natal care for single women ("nice girls get themselves a husband before they get themselves a baby").

With the notable exception of Senator Olympia Snowe of Maine, a moderate who announced last week that she'd had enough of the ugliness and would not seek re-election, the Republican party has regressed to a pre-modern state, making war on any woman who, to borrow Rebecca West's words, "expresses any sentiment that might differentiate her from a doormat or a prostitute". Just the other week, an Indiana legislator pitched a hissy fit over the girl scouts, the US version of the girl guides, accusing them of promoting lesbianism and feminism and, worst of all, working hand in glove with Planned Parenthood.

By biased do you mean I don't agree with the teaparty republicans? Dude, that's not biased. That's being a liberal democrat.

Yes, a random persons ranting OP ED peice stating her opinoin of things is CLEARLY proof that you're not lying, exaggerating, or making stuff up.

Also, since you seem to enjoy exaggeration...let's get this on record. Are you suggesting that individual actions of A Republican can be used as evidence of what REPUBLICANS as a mass group think, support, and believe?

Withdrawn when he found out about the comment. Ryan's part of the whole thing is a non-issue. There are real, good things to attack Ryan on(his extreme positions, his economy destroying budget plans are two off the top of my head). This is not one of them.

It certainly is used that way sometimes:

Once again the liberal progressive far left shows who they really are. Included in some of the tweets to this actress are name calling her a 'house n*****r', 'jigaboo' and telling her to 'just kill herself for her race'....
But repubs are the racists right?

It certainly is used that way sometimes:

Yep, Anagram hit that one out of the park by post 3 in that thread.

I don't know whether to be glad or sad that such a tactic is at least a common tool in the hyperpartisan toolbox of both sides rather than just one.
